Had one going for April and I think it helped a bit.

Basically anything you like once it gets you walking more than you are currently doing!

I have a Fitbit and am aiming for 10,000 steps a day.

I also use MapMyWalk and have a loop I do that is 4km. For the first week I am aiming to do that every day. After that I will increase.

I read on another thread that 15,000 steps a day is needed for weight loss so I'm aiming to get to that by the end of the month.

Hoping for some company again!

I did contemplate that, Cider but 1000 to 1200 is recommended by MFP. I'm eating two good healthy meals per day with loads of veg so not hungry, particularly

17857 and 127 active minutes. Did quite a long walk this evening after visiting a close friend in hospital. She's very ill. Needed time and space to get my head round it. Walking is brilliant for that

CiderwithBuda · 26/06/2015 16:55

Well after saying my leg was ok guess what? I miss judged the kerb yesterday and ended up turning over on my ankle. Hurt a bit but was ok after a minute or two. Was on way to Tonacise. Did 30 min walk back and was then busy for the day. Ankle got pretty painful as the day wore on! Ended up icing it and taking painkillers. It's not bad today but I was in town earlier and after wandering around for a couple of hours it ached a bit so I'm going to be sensible and rest it for the rest of the day. So no walk. Hoping to be back at it tomorrow.

London - it sounds low to me - what height are you? Have you tried calculating your TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expe figure)? Might be worthy necking that too. Apologies if I'm preaching to the converted!

Ouch! Poor you Sad you definitely need to rest up for a couple of days.

My BMR is 1586 and my TDEE is 2458. It was quite a revelation when I found out about TDEE

LondonHuffyPuffy · 27/06/2015 10:32

I did 12294 and 79 AMs yesterday. Not too good for me but still ok with that

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 27/06/2015 11:16

Sorry to hear that Cider, how frustrating. Sorry for being AWOL, I have lost my walking mojo a bit thanks to being very busy at work and the increasingly warm, humid weather, but did get going well again yesterday with 19,400 steps and 100 AMs. Probably averaging about 10,000 steps/day over the last couple of weeks, but there was one day last week when I forgot to put the Fitbit on after charging it and only recorded 2,500 steps, so my weekly average is down to 65,000.

CiderwithBuda · 27/06/2015 13:14

That's frustrating WhoKnows! Glad to see you back. Was wondering where you'd got to!

Ankle fine today thankfully. Did 6km walk. Although last half km was cool down pace up and down our (long) driveway! Was at 5.54 km when I got back so wanted to hit the 6km. I'm over 9,000 steps already and 65 active minutes.

Ned to nip into town later too so will get more steps but not active minutes.

Just scrolling back up, sorry to hear about your friend London.

LondonHuffyPuffy · 27/06/2015 17:56

Thanks, WhoKnows.

Did an epic walk today. 17.43km, just under 20,000 steps.

Now trying to summon up the energy to go to Tesco

LondonHuffyPuffy · 27/06/2015 20:17

I am top of the MN FitBit group for distance and steps in the last 7 days! 2nd for AMs Grin

Howlongtillbedtime · 28/06/2015 08:50

Morning all , yesterday I managed 17706 and 65 active mins . That is impressive London , I still haven't managed 100 k steps I a week but today is looking a possibility. It is weird how addictive the fitbit is .

Volenflo · 28/06/2015 08:54

Hello, got a FitBit one yesterday so shall be joining everyone here :)

CiderwithBuda · 28/06/2015 11:11

Welcome Volenflo! Nice to have new people join in.

London - Hope your friend is ok. 17.43km??!! Wow.

Howlong - I'm getting addicted too. I wasn't when I bought mine first though. This thread has def helped.

I got to 14,880 yesterday and 85 active minutes. If I had realised I was so close to the 15,000 I would have walked around to hit it. But I was sitting in a friend's garden drinking gin and tonic with pink grapefruit all evening!

I need to take a couple of tshirts back to Next today so am going to walk in to town and back. I think it will be 40 mins each way. Be interested to see how many steps.

20464 and 160 AMs today. Another 17km schlep! Rotherhithe, Deptford, Greenwich, under the river (weird) through the Greenwich Foot Tunnel, Isle of Dogs, Canary Wharf then home. Absobloodylutely shattered! I'm making a rod for my own back because I have to keep beating my weekly total. 122k+ this week

LondonHuffyPuffy · 28/06/2015 18:56

PS thanks for the thoughts re my friend. She has cancer Sad

CiderwithBuda · 28/06/2015 22:28

I hope she will be ok London.

12,138 steps and 67 active minutes for me today. 6.4 km walk into town and back.

My legs ached SO much after!

OP posts:
WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 28/06/2015 22:41

Yesterday 8800 steps and 40 AMs. That's not actually bad considering I didn't leave the (very small) house till after 5pm. And then spent 2 hours stood on a poolside chivvying children in a swimming gala. But I did walk there and back and then to the allotment and back via a circuitous route later.

Today 11677 and 52 AMs. Allotment and back twice, swimming pool and back again and a stroll round a summer fair.

So, not quite hitting targets, I'm nearly always a bit down at weekends.

London - how on earth are you finding time for all this walking? You are doing brilliantly. I know what you mean about the rid for your own back, I felt I was going that way about three weeks ago and reacted by dropping back dramatically Blush. Time to fit in is definitely an issue for me, there are various slots in the week when I'm hanging round the sports centre for DCs, but I am very bored already of all the walks I can do from there.

Cider - well done on your walk today too.

Howlong - hope you made the 100k

Volenflo - welcome, what sort of target are you aiming for?

LondonHuffyPuffy · 28/06/2015 23:58

Thanks, Cider. It's not looking too great at the moment.

Whoknows - I don't have kids and DH is working a lot right now so have lots of spare time. The 17km walks at weekends take about 3 hours. During the week I get 3000 or so getting to work (decent walk from tube to office) then another 3000-ish walking around work to and from meetings. Then I walk some or most of the way home.

London is a great City for walking!

I found that the more I walk the easier it is getting. I guess I must be getting fitter!

Hope you all have a good week, walking or not x

Howlongtillbedtime · 29/06/2015 06:22

Morning all . Yesterday was 15276 and 65 active mins. And I got over the 100 k so now I just have to keep it there .

london I am really sorry about your friend. Cancer is a shit .
Welcome back who knows

It is a couch to 5k day today so I should be ok for steps (if knackered )

Hope everyone has a good day.

LondonHuffyPuffy · 29/06/2015 09:51

Hurrah for the over 100k - that's really good work.

Cancer is indeed shit... this is not the first time for her. She had been clear for years, but it is now in her liver and bones. Not good. Puts the mini-crisis I had this morning about leaving my Fitbit charger at work into perspective... I didn't log any steps this morning at all because the battery was dead, and I usually get about 3000 before I get to my desk. Oh well, will make up for it with a longer walk this evening.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 29/06/2015 10:17

I agree about London being great for walking, we don't go that often, maybe 2 or 3 times a year, but when we do we usually cover a lot of distance on foot.

Having children is a plus and a minus when it comes to walking for me. They enable me to do a lot of incidental walking (school runs, sports centre etc) but they are also very restricting. I can't squeeze walking into my commute because I have to get there and back within school hours, if I was doing it in my own time I could catch the train instead of driving, then it would be a good mile walk at each end, but it's just not possible at the moment.

LondonHuffyPuffy · 29/06/2015 23:06

I can see that if I had kids this would be a lot harder. I took 2 hours to walk home tonight as I kept pausing to take pics of London looking glorious in the sunshine! Would rather have DCs to take pics with, but that's a whole other thread.

I got 15376 FB steps and 134 active mins today but the iPhone Health app shows I did 19465 steps so I "lost" quite a few today due to flat battery

Howlongtillbedtime · 30/06/2015 07:04

Morning all, I managed 15324 and 89 active minutes which I am pleased about as it keeps me just over the 100 k . I had a stinky hangover as well . I really need to have better weekends . I will never lose weight like this .

Back to work today so it will be trickier today but will keep trying . I am getting a bit impatient with my weight loss .

CiderwithBuda · 30/06/2015 22:26

10,661 and 44 active minutes yesterday
11,745 and 48 active minutes today.

Not sure what I will manage tomorrow.

OP posts:
WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 30/06/2015 22:50

Tomorrow is July! WE've done the whole month Flowers. Are we carrying on?

Yesterday was 10730 and 32 Ams, was working most of the day and only managed school runs and the allotment.

Today was better, despite the heat, with 14185 and 37 Ams. 2 x school run, plus walked into town and wandered round for an hour, then went to Sainsburys later.

Total for June is 375,300. That means an average of 12510 a day, against a target of 12500, woohoo! I think I will be under for average active minutes though, can't find a total for those.

CiderwithBuda · 30/06/2015 22:56

I forgot tomorrow is July. I would like to carry on. I suppose we should have a July thread. Will start one tomorrow.

Well done on beating your target. I'm not sure I had one! I will figure out my total for the month.
