Had one going for April and I think it helped a bit.

Basically anything you like once it gets you walking more than you are currently doing!

I have a Fitbit and am aiming for 10,000 steps a day.

I also use MapMyWalk and have a loop I do that is 4km. For the first week I am aiming to do that every day. After that I will increase.

I read on another thread that 15,000 steps a day is needed for weight loss so I'm aiming to get to that by the end of the month.

Hoping for some company again!

Hmm, well despite clocking up 18400 steps so far today I only have 10 active minutes. Some of my short walks I did march along faster than usual, but I went for a 45 min walk with a friend just now and didn't get a single AM, must have been strolling too slowly, we were chatting away.

Howlongtillbedtime · 03/06/2015 21:11

I only get the active minutes if I am getting a bit of a march on which I do try and do but I am still pleased to see the steps just going up . I am a lot more active than I was a month ago even if the fitbit doesn't always tell me I am which has got to be a good thing .

Fingers crossed the scales tell me the same on friday !

MrsTatum1980 · 03/06/2015 21:19

Late joining but me, me please!
Got my fitbit Zip on Monday and loving it! Managed 10,000 each day so far (including some manic living room paving to tip it the magic number!) but I'm not sure if I'm cheating a little...I have a mini stepper that I'm doing for around 25-30 minutes each day to get the 10.000, it makes me pink and a bit sweaty if I do it quickly so does this count! Currently on it, nearly at 12.000 and worried about Bridget style jelly legs!

MrsTatum1980 · 03/06/2015 21:20

Pacing not bloody paving!

CiderwithBuda · 03/06/2015 22:32

Anything that gets you moving and sweating and not sitting on your bum is good MrsTatum!

WhoKnows - you should have some active minutes even with a stroll I would have thought?

Well, not so good today, snuck over my 12500 step target with 12,576, but still only 8 active minutes and those only achieved by a detour on the way home from the allotment. I am a very slow walker and I was hoping these would motivate me to speed up, but the 10 minute thing is a PITA as I do so many 10 minute or so walks.

CiderwithBuda · 04/06/2015 22:48

Don't really know what to suggest WhoKnows. Can you get out for half an hour on your own for just a walk and build up your speed?

I had a day off today. Legs were so tired this morning and a friend dropped in for coffee. I was going to do six days walking and a rest day but legs were so tired today I have decided to do 3 on, a rest day and 3 more. Then I will see how I go and maybe do 4 days before a rest, building up to 6 days.

11,000 ish and 47 active minutes today. Finding the target is really motivating me to get out when I just fancy collapsing on the sofa. Took baby into work today in central London to meet everyone and got home feeling tired but went for a lovely walk in the sun which led to half an hour lying in the park while DS slept in his pram - so nice. Would have missed out on that if I'd stayed home and put my feet up.

Think I might try and do 15,000+ tomorrow. I've not got much on so will give me something to do with myself!

MuttonCadet · 04/06/2015 22:53

Can I join please? 18880 steps 105 active minutes, dog walking gets me sorted for the active minutes as far as I can tell.

I need to keep my weight steady, so I'm trying to move more (so I can eat more Blush)

OurGlass · 05/06/2015 00:06

So so so in! Marking place to come back later.

CiderwithBuda · 05/06/2015 11:46

Nice to see new people! Welcome. Smile

5k this morning. Needed milk so did a loop that took me past the Co-op. I'm at 8,637 steps already and 53 active minutes.

Am helping out at Pimms tent at school sports day at lunch time. Might walk there and back. Parking is a nightmare and it will mean I can have a sneaky Pimms! It will be 20 mins there and the same back.

BananaToast - your walk and lying in the park sounds lovely. How nice of DS to sleep so you could do that!

MuttonCadet · 05/06/2015 22:19

13,500 today, but cancelled the steps out by eating and drinking loads Smile

BananaToast · 05/06/2015 23:13

Mutton I'm impressed at your 18,000 yesterday!

Only scraped 10,000 today as we didn't go for a walk as such, just pottered around at home and my mum's house. 52 active minutes - mainly from walking round the garden this evening with DS in the sling trying to get him off to sleep. Feel I should get bonus steps when I'm carrying him around too!

Cider you've got me craving Pimms - I've fancied one for months now but haven't got round to having one since not being pregnant. Might be a job for this weekend: make Pimms.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 05/06/2015 23:27

14993 for me today plus 13 active minutes. Lots of 10 min walks as usual!

Howlongtillbedtime · 06/06/2015 06:44

Morning all , I managed 12533 on thursday with 60 active minutes and 16646 with 76 active minutes . I am really pleased with yesterday , I had an hours unexpected break from work and normally I would sit and read or have a potter round the shops and spend money I don't have but instead I had a really good walk out around a park . I felt so much better for doing it .

The fitbit and reporting in here is really making a big difference . I have lost a stone in about 5 weeks . I was at a friends for dinner last night so not brilliant on the calorie front but back on it today . Off to the gym this afternoon .

CiderwithBuda · 06/06/2015 11:07

I ended up driving to school as left it too late to walk. Brilliant sunshine as I set off but it clouded over and got really windy and freezing quite quickly. Ended up having one Pimms as there were some poured out that didn't get sold. It was lovely BananaToast!

Glad this thread is helping people. It's definitely helping me.

I have just done my walk. The exact same loop I did yesterday. Yesterday MapMyWalk measured it as 5.02km. Today it was 4.6km. Go figure! I'm at 6,627 steps already. Frustratingly that could have been more as I went to .sainsburys this morning but left my Fitbit charging.

Rest of day is washing, some weeding and then going over to some friends for dinner and staying over. There will be wine.

CiderwithBuda · 06/06/2015 16:42

Took dogs out for a walk with DH, did some weeding (although I sat down for a lot of it!), walk around to neighbours. Now at 13,651 steps and 100 active minutes! And 10.06k.

My legs ache!

OP posts:
WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 06/06/2015 18:32

14629 steps and 7 active minutes! I really need to get out on some longer walks. That was 7 walks of 10 mins or so plus a leisurely stroll round the shops this morning.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 06/06/2015 21:16

Well, I'm confused now. Just clicked on the Fitbit website on the computer (I normally use the app on my phone).

Total steps the same on both (and the Fitbit itself). But computer says 52 active minutes, app says 8. Yesterday either 63 or 13. I'm going to read them from the computer in future I think! So that has cheered me up!

Where are the rest of you getting your active minute totals from?

Howlongtillbedtime · 06/06/2015 21:21

That's weird , mine says the same thing 34 mins by the way Grin

I have a fitbit one if that makes any odds ?

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 06/06/2015 21:26

Me too, had mine for a couple of years. I'm just updating the app to see if that helps.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 06/06/2015 21:27

Might take a while, my phone had about 30 apps with updates due, I don't sync or update it very often.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 06/06/2015 22:56

Yay! Updated App now gives me 52 AMs for today, 63 for yesterday. What a relief, I was beginning to think I must be the world's slowest stroller. Final step total for today 16513.

Howlongtillbedtime · 07/06/2015 07:38

That's better .

I didn't quite manage my 10k yesterday , weirdly I struggle more on the weekend sometimes . I am meeting a friend today for lunch so could be another tricky one . I am going to try and get out for a walk this morning .

I have been doing this for a month now and I have lost 11 pounds (a stone in total), I do have another 3 to go but it is a start .

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 07/06/2015 08:25

I struggle at weekends too, a lot of my steps are school runs, walking DCs to Brownies etc, it's not unusual for me to only get 4-6000 steps on a weekend. Well done on the weightloss Howlong, I lost a stone earlier this year but fell off the wagon around Easter and have now put back on about 4lbs. Am about 4st overweight.
