Anyone up up for a June walking challenge?

Had one going for April and I think it helped a bit.

Basically anything you like once it gets you walking more than you are currently doing!

I have a Fitbit and am aiming for 10,000 steps a day.

I also use MapMyWalk and have a loop I do that is 4km. For the first week I am aiming to do that every day. After that I will increase.

I read on another thread that 15,000 steps a day is needed for weight loss so I'm aiming to get to that by the end of the month.

Hoping for some company again!

Can I join too?

Work days are great for me. I have no trouble getting my steps but have to work st my active minutes.

My days off are a disaster Sad I can't get above 5000 without going for a walk, which is ok if it's sunny.

My dc's are starting their summer hols in 3 weeks and I'm already panicing about my steps znd seriously considering a second hand treadmill.

I've lost 8 lb in 3 weeks with my fitness pal and fitbit. I don't want to stop now

CiderwithBuda · 07/06/2015 14:56

Smile WhoKnows - glad you got it sorted! It did seem odd that you were getting so few Active Minutes.

I'm having a day off. Ended up on over 15,000 steps yesterday and won a badge. Smile. Legs are tired. I'm tired after a late night and not great sleep. Doing the bare minimum of anything today - school uniform washing and basic chores is about it.

Back at it tomorrow. Also serious weight loss approach. No wheat, no sugar no alcohol. A lot of my summer clothes don't fit. Need drastic measures before holiday next month.

Oohnewshoes - course you can! We are a nice bunch. I don't mind walking if it's cloudy but am not keen on rain. I have a cross trainer that I am planning on using on wet days.

13,279 steps and 81 active minutes for me today - that's more like it. Plus I have lost 2lb since last week!

Walked to Sainsburys this morning instead of taking the car, then walked DD to her swimming lesson (she sometimes leans on me to drive, but didn't today) and instead of watching her swim I went out and walked for half an hour, at my new more brisk pace. So that was good. I'm already starting to get bored of all the routes you can take from our Sports Centre while my DCs do various activities though, it's OK if I have a friend to chat to, but not very interesting walks when by myself. Need to sort out some podcasts on my phone I think.

CiderwithBuda · 08/06/2015 16:20

Having another rest day unfortunately. Seem to have aggravated the Achilles issue I had. Pain travelling all the way up into my back. Just been to chiropractor and he did some massage and acupuncutre but suggested I rest it a bit.

Will keep on with the massage and stretching to loosen everything. Am having a Hot Stone massage tomorrow which will help.

Had a rest day yesterday and only hit 6,704 steps and 0 active minutes. Back out and walking today and am on 13,222 and 90 active minutes so far. Would like to hit 15,000 one day this week. Maybe tomorrow - am going to a baby massage class a 30 min walk from home, and meeting friends for coffee in the morning which I will walk to so that should help.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 08/06/2015 22:26

Hope the massage helps Cider, that must be so frustrating.

Well, I have to tell you, these threads are most inspiring! With 12791 steps and 53 active minutes today, I have just had my weekly total email from Fitbit and I have absolutely smashed my previous weekly best. This week 104,000, previous best 85,000. I would not have done that without this thread I am sure, so thank you all for the encouragement.

BananaToast · 08/06/2015 22:54

Nice work WhoKnows!

My plan is to try to beat my total weekly steps and active minutes with each new week.

Finished up today on 16,275 steps and 102 active minutes - my best day so far. Hoping for similar tomorrow.

KittyB52 · 09/06/2015 07:33

I would love to join in. I have had my FitBit One for just under two weeks and it really is motivating me to walk more. However, I have yet to reach my 10,000 steps a day, even with a lunchtime walk. I do, however, manage to get at least 30 active minutes on my walk - I properly stride about. Grin So I am guessing I will need to either skip lunch and do an hour long walk, or do an extra walk in the evenings, or first thing in the morning.

If anyone wants to add me on FitBit, I am KittyB52 - I'm a member of the Mumsnet group on there too.

Howlongtillbedtime · 09/06/2015 18:07

Hi all , how is everyone doing ?
Hope the pain is better today cider

I did 14301 yesterday and 85 active mins

And today so far (in for tonight so not many more steps now) I have done 13676 and 73 active mins .

I am training tomorrow so won't get much of a chance to go for much of a walk in the day so I am hoping to get my boys out after school and take them for a walk if the sun is out .

CiderwithBuda · 09/06/2015 18:31

Pain is much better howlong - thanks for asking. Still resting though today.

Will be back at it tomorrow I hope.

Your stps are impressive! Well Done.

Welcome KittyB52.

I haven't added anyone on Fitbit. I think It might discourage me rather than encourage me!

Glad to hear your feeling better Cider.

Had a busy day today. I got my steps but now my active mins so I'm heading out for a quick walk now and ignoring their protestsGrin

Impressive mins Banana. We'll done.

Kitty I'll look you up as a fitbit friend later this eve if you don't mind.

BananaToast · 09/06/2015 20:13

Glad the pain is better today Cider.

I've had another good day, I'm on 14,176 steps and 99 active minutes (annoyed it's almost but not quite 100 but too lazy to do another 10 mins just to get it over the threshold!).

I read on another thread about Bounts - a website that links up with your fitbit account and gives you points you can swap for high street vouchers. The mnetter who recommended it says she gets about £5 a month in vouchers just from her steps. I've signed up, figured even if it takes ages to get any money it's an additional incentive - you get points for every 7,000 steps you do in a day so it's making me aim for 14,000 rather than 10,000. If anyone wants to join you can use my referral code and we both get 100 bonus points - it's jackson1221. The website is www.bounts.it Smile

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 09/06/2015 23:18

Just whizzing in to track my results for the day, will be back to chat tomorrow. 13593 steps and 62 active minutes.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 10/06/2015 23:29

13077 and 59 today. I was falling well short, so I went out for a nice brisk 35 minute walk by myself this evening, it's nice just walking the streets looking at everyone's gardens.

Thanks for the info about Bounts Banana, I will have a look but I do get a bit fed up with numerous loyalty / incentive schemes. I don't really want to start adding friends unless I know them in real life (I have one other MNer, but I have met her and known her a long time), so no offence to anyone else, but I'd rather keep my account separate.

CiderwithBuda · 10/06/2015 23:53

11,625 and 37 active minutes for me today. Leg a bit painful still.

Thinking of resting again tomorrow. Massage, stretches etc.

Will see how it feels tomorrow.

grumpasaur · 10/06/2015 23:58

I will join!!

I recently moved so that I could (amongst other things) walk to work. So far I seem to make it one way and bus the other.

So I will commit to walk both ways (about 35 mins each way) every day I am in the office.

How many minutes of walking does 10,000 steps roughly equate to?

Yesterday I walked from Pimlico to London Bridge and it took about an hour.

Howlongtillbedtime · 11/06/2015 07:09

Morning all , glad your leg is feeling a bit better cider , another rest day sounds sensible though .

I managed 10245 yesterday and 57 active minutes . Not as many as I would like but today should hopefully be better . I am doing couch to 5 k for my sins and today is a run day . I started it a couple of years ago and broke my toe and lost momentum so I am determined to finish it this time .

Good luck to everyone today .

grumpasaur your hours walking is probably the 10,000 steps in itself .

LondonHuffyPuffy · 11/06/2015 21:43

May I join in?

I bought a FitBit Flex in early April and have been walking loads. Have just upped my daily goal to 15,000. My best week so far was 98000 steps. So far this week I have done 64,204 steps in 4 days. I am loving it!

grumpasaur if you walk along the Thames Path, Pimlico to London Bridge is easily 10,000

If I walk from work to home along the river it's about 20,000 steps. Pimlico sort of area to Rotherhithe.

Today I only walked from London Bridge to here and that was about 7,000 steps. I got the other 8,000 this morning and at lunchtime

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 11/06/2015 21:54

Good to have some new joiners, welcome!

13854 and 57 active minutes for me today, I had to go out for another evening walk to achieve it, but that was nice. For a variety of reasons I haven't needed to do so much "routine" walking this week, so I'm having to go out and catch up.

My current 7 day total is 98,000, I've decided to try and aim for keeping keep it over 100k.

KittyB52 · 11/06/2015 22:09

I'm still not making my 10,000 goal, but am getting my active minutes at 30+ a day. I will have to squeeze in an evening walk and see if that tips me over into 10K+ territory.

BananaToast · 11/06/2015 22:54

Lazy day for me today, only did 7,388 and 27 active minutes. But had three good days Mon-Wed so my average for the week so far is fine. Might try for 20,000 steps tomorrow - will see whether DS is compliant and will sleep in the pram while I walk!

howlongtillbedtime · 12/06/2015 06:12

I think yesterday was my best day yet at 18382 and 91 active minutes . Now if I could do that every day I would be happy (and slimmer)

Welcome to all the new people and good luck to everyone for today .

LondonHuffyPuffy · 12/06/2015 13:02

Poop. It's going to rain this afternoon. That's going to be loads of fun walking home! Grin

LondonHuffyPuffy · 12/06/2015 21:19

Well, the rain held off until I was ten minutes from home and it was actually nice to cool down a bit. I didn't get many steps in at work so I walked all the way home. 17591 steps, 149 active minutes in total today. MapMyWalk says I walked 10.06km in 103 minutes tonight so I think the FitBit steps were only about 13000.

So grumposaurus I may have misled you a little. Millbank Tower to just past London Bridge was about 6,500 steps, so depending on where in Pimlico you are, it might not be 10,000 steps for you to London Bridge, even along the Thames Path (which is the long way, I think?). Sorry Sad

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 12/06/2015 22:06

15318 and 57 AMs today. However I'm annoyed with myself, I left it on charge last night and forgot to put it on before the school run this morning, so I should have had another 1600 or so steps, which would have pushed my 7 day total over the 100k mark. Grrr!
