Hi everyone, new thread started! Grin

OP posts:
OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 03/05/2015 16:13

Well done Saz, all the bet runners do 10K in 01:02 Wink

I am a fan of bodyglide - was recommended to me after a bad attack of bra rash a couple of years ago.

Hope all goes well tomorrow and next week Edith

8.6 to add - my longest run since 1 March and boy didn't I know it Smile

124.42

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 03/05/2015 16:14

^best runners Smile

HalleLouja · 03/05/2015 18:04

Edith the one my club is doing is 10 km loop with about 8 in a team. You are much braver than me.

EdithDickie · 03/05/2015 18:11

I know Sazor!!! I have kept thinking all weekend about how hours in we will be next week and then giggling hysterically! I am thinking I will get longer breaks as the weekend wears on, and especially in the dark they will slow down because of the risk of injury. Plus one of them really wants to do 50 miles. So all in all I think I will actually cover around 30 miles. Possibly more. Oh. My. God. Shock Grin

I apologise in advance for the woe is me stream of consciousness next weekend!

Sazorchard31 · 03/05/2015 21:12

You will be great Edith.

suzannecanthecan · 03/05/2015 21:41

?Very heroic Edith!Star
I am felled by even small amounts of sleep disturbance, really couldn't cope with that kind of event ?

AggressiveBunting · 04/05/2015 02:28

Adding 4 from my Crossfit commute - ohone in answer to your earlier question, this is just my way of saying I ran to my Crossfit class and back. I used to drive but then we had major political protests here late last year and the traffic got terrible because of all the road blocks. I realised I could run it faster, and just started doing that. It's not a very lovely run but I kind of view it as 12 free miles a week as I dont lose any time by doing it vs driving, plus it's quite effective as a warm up/ cool down.

New total is 128.42

Has anyone entered the VLM ballot for 2016? It opened today and I entered the overseas one. Anglaise I realised I'm not actually old enough for the GFA time of 3:50 as need to be 41, not 40. I'm also confused as to whether you can use a 3:50 time from when you were less than 41 to enter.

Edith You'll be good and you probably won't feel that tired- just drink coffee or use caffeinated gels. Personally, I wouldn't even attempt to sleep-just rest. Also, do the first few laps relatively slowly and take a foam roller to use between laps.

EdithDickie · 04/05/2015 06:49

Slower than normal is advice I've had from a couple of ultra marathoners Aggressive so definitely going for that, apparently I need to not feel as though I have had a good aerobic workout at the end of each lap. Foam roller has been added to my heap of kit! Interesting you say that about sleep, I was also thinking a tiny amount would be worse than none at all, it's like you want more then but if there's none you have to power through. Not much of a coffee drinker but I have a lot of coke and lucozade to drink. I am looking forward to it in a way!

EdithDickie · 04/05/2015 06:51

As for VLM ballot I am very tempted.... but I think I will probably leave it until next year / year after. Rather hoping to be pregnant in the not-too-distant future. Smile

Anglaise1 · 04/05/2015 07:05

Aggressive I think the good for age is for UK residents only - I don't know how strict they are if you have a UK address to use. If you are 40 then a time under 3H45 is required, could you qualify with this? I'm not going to enter the international ballot, I'll wait for the Good for Age in mid June and see if I get in by using my brother's address in London. If not then it'll probably be Paris instead.
A soaking 13 miles from me this weekend, our team came second in the relay race (lost by 12 seconds) but it was good fun despite the wind and rain.
Good luck next weekend Edith you'll be find, I just hope the weather is better than it was last weekend!
141.42

Neeko · 04/05/2015 07:11

A nice 3.3 from me this morning. Weighed myself today and my weight is starting to drop plus it's a bank holiday, so all in all a good day. Smile

Edith- I'm sure you'll be great. Good luck!

144.72

karatekimmi · 04/05/2015 07:17

London marathon ballot open now!!

I'd enter it this year edith as you can always defer it if you are pregnant and you probably won't get in!! Grin

Deliaskis · 04/05/2015 07:35

Morning, just popping on to log my 5.3 from Saturday and 3.2 from yesterday, so 8.5 from me, total 153.22

AggressiveBunting · 04/05/2015 08:08

I was just reading on runmummyrun FB page - some people have entered it 9 yrs straight and never got in. Apparently the chance is 1 in 14 (and that was last year when they closed the ballot after 10 hrs so this year it could be more like 1 in 50 or something). Anglaise 3:45 is a possibility with training (my PB is 3:47 on that course and I think I'm better now) but not between now and June. I don't even know where there's a marathon I could do near here. I dont know why I've got in in my head that I really want to do VLM. Maybe I'm finally feeling the pull of the old country, which is crappy timing cos DS starts school here in September. Well done on your soggy 13 miler and bad luck in getting pipped. Hope the post-race food was up to the usual French standards!

Edith Yes- aim for low cardio stress and pace to that. The good thing about relays is that you can maintain your blood sugar levels more easily than if you're running constantly. I drink coke on ultras. Definitely peps you up!

EdithDickie · 04/05/2015 08:17

Wow I had no idea the chance of getting in was so low! I think I will give it a punt then!

I just have 2.5 miles to add this morning. Now calling my Hope 24 training done and commencing the "eating a truckload" phase of training!
Thanks so much for the tips "Aggressive*. Smile

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 04/05/2015 08:29

I am all ready to run 10K, although I'm more excited about seeing cinnamon and Mrcinnamon and Babycinnamonbun Smile

Cinners in case we miss each other beforehand I expect to take at least 30 mins to reach the halfway point, and am wearing a green WOLF run top. See you later!

EdithDickie · 04/05/2015 08:41

Good luck OhOne!

twobambinos · 04/05/2015 10:08

Goodluck phone

Skulks back in after 3 weeks off. I was very sick for one week couldn't get out of bed. And I just did a gentle treadmill today of 2 miles really not feeling the love and don't have the energy. Have a half marathon the weekend after next and don't know what to do words from the wise?

Off to catch up on the whole thread

holmessweetholmes · 04/05/2015 10:16

Steeling myself for my long run this morning. I'm supposed to do 12k according to my training plan . Last week's 10k felt like about a million miles!

Am in awe of anyone who does marathons or ultras - it's taken me 3 goes to make it to a half, and that's assuming I actually make it to this one! Which is definitely not a foregone conclusion...

stilllearnin · 04/05/2015 10:51

holmes trainers on, double knotted, and out the door - one step at a time. You will definitely do 12k on top of your 10 the other day, even if you don't do it today you will get that licked in the next week or so. You know it.

I am ill and trying to rest up with 2 school appeals and a wedding in the next 5 days. I was supposed to be at ds' biggest gig this year, but I have had to stay at home. Might sneak out for a run later today just to make sure I am still able.

Whowouldfardelsbear · 04/05/2015 11:19

A good 6.22 miles from me. As usual, the first thrid was pretty bad but I was and then suddenly at about 8 km I felt like i was running on air, Maybe I should enter a half marathon Grin

I was hoping to run somewhere new as I was meant to be going to Christchurch over night with work, but our plane was cancelled due to fog so I ended up just back in the office. I was really looking forward to a peaceful night in a hotel - it would have been the first night ON MY OWN with no DH or DC pestering me for about seven years!

I may have to check out this runmummyrun facebook page.

Hope you all have a great 10k today!

163.94 including edith's 2.5, my run and twobambinos 2

holmessweetholmes · 04/05/2015 12:29

Phew - did it! Thanks for the encouragement, still! It actually felt slightly easier than the 10k last week, strangely. I think it's because I did an out-and-back route rather than a circular one. Somehow a return journey feels psychologically better to me!

Anyway... 7.46 miles from me makes 171.4 by my reckoning.

suzannecanthecan · 04/05/2015 12:59

Somehow a return journey feels psychologically better to me
I agree, if I do an out and back journey the second half seems easier than if I'd done a route where I do laps.
But running too far home makes me feel a bit anxious in case something goes wrong (Blush )so I tend to do laps so that I'm never more than about 3 miles from home

holmessweetholmes · 04/05/2015 13:23

Ah you see I ran a 6k almost-circle and then went back the opposite way again, so at 6k I was nearly back home, but then went away from home again iyswim! It sounds a bit bonkers... The other benefit is that I'm less likely to get lost that way Grin.

I just looked at my stats and my pace was marginally faster than the 10k I did last week! Feeling quite positive about the HM now!

suzannecanthecan · 04/05/2015 13:41

nothing is bonkers if it helps you get the miles in Holmes Wink

11.75 from me = 183.15
it felt grueling and I have a bit of a PITA while sitting :(
