Hi everyone, new thread started! Grin

OP posts:
holmessweetholmes · 04/05/2015 14:33

Ouch - sympathies for the PITA! I feel a bit achy round the hips and am sporting an impressive blister on my right foot.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 04/05/2015 15:50

Welcome back bambinos

Good work holmes - my favourite run is kind of a lollipop shape, as the first and last 2.5 miles are out and back, but then I do a 2-3 mile loop where the path splits - the long way round follows the river while the short way is as the crow flies, but both lead to a local visitor attraction. I tend to take the long way to get there and the shorter way back so I'm more than halfway at the turn. DH does the opposite Smile

I had a smashing 10K, started tight at the back and didn't push it because I ran yesterday, followed the same lady almost all the way and managed a fast final K which brought me in somewhere around 01:02 (but sadly not :03). Had a lovely chat with cinnamon afterwards and she even let me hold little bun, which was very brave of both if them in my sweaty state Smile

cinnamongreyhound · 04/05/2015 15:53

Anyone who enters the VMLM ballot is crazy braver than I am!

Manned the water station at my clubs 10k today, stayed dry and was actually quite warm back at the race HQ! Wasn't prepared for how wet we'd get with runners grabbing water! Was lovely that many of our parkrunners took part so really felt at home and was great to see OhOneOhTwoOhThree! I'm sure baby enjoyed his cuddles Smile hope you had a safe journey home and it's not a bad medal either Grin

X-posts Grin

holmessweetholmes · 04/05/2015 18:23

OhOne - I like how your time is almost your username Grin. And that lollipop plan sounds good!

karatekimmi · 04/05/2015 18:35

You all have more willpower than me. - if I'm running alone I can't do a there and back loop as I talk myself into feeling all sorts of imaginary niggles and turn back early! I can't loop past my house as I miss loops offBlush it has to be a circular loop for me. I am a terrible cheat, I'm surprised I bother to leave the house sometimes!!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 04/05/2015 18:52

My user name used to be my 10K PB holmes Grin

I got the time, and name changed, a couple of years ago when 5mad and I were part of a MN team who ran the BUPA London 10K together to raise money for one of the charities Woolly Hugs have been supporting. Here is the link is the JustGiving page which gives the background. There were MNers running all over the place that year - IIRC 5mad's sister did a different event, and one of our London team has run a couple of HMs for the same charity since then.

I have had a slightly faster time since that 10K, but it didn't have the same ring to it Smile

holmessweetholmes · 04/05/2015 18:55

Cool! My fastest 10k is 01:01, but that was a while back. It took me over 01:10 last week. Hey ho.

Anglaise1 · 04/05/2015 19:18

Congrats on your 10k Ohone I'm so glad the weather was OK for you and Cinnammon at the water station. It has been raining again here so another wet run this evening.
Holmes well done on your 12km run, you see it is possible! Just building up little by little increases your confidence as well as your ability to run further.
I never worry about running a long way from home, but if I cycle I don't like to be too far as I worry about getting a puncture, it's odd! I can be over 10 miles away from home and it doesn't matter. I prefer running round routes but never do laps. Or sometimes there and back on a pedestrianized ex railway line near my home which goes 30 kms in one direction (haven't done there and back...yet!)
Suzanne sorry about your PITA I have a permanent one now too...it is worst in the car and on wooden seats. I definitely need a soft cushion to sit on now when driving.
An easy paced 5 miles this evening, so with Ohone's 10k that makes
198.15

Sazorchard31 · 04/05/2015 20:06

Fab on the 1.02 ohone time buddies this weekend!!

familygermsareok · 04/05/2015 20:49

Congrats on your 10ks sazor and OhOne. That's a lovely story behind a username Smile
And congrats on relay anglaise too Smile

Sorry to hear about the PITAs. I hope it's not your old problem flaring up again suzanne.

Edith good luck for your race, it sounds like it will be an amazing experience. I love the idea of something like that ( although I'm not at all sure I would ever be up to it.) Wow!

I much prefer circular routes to there n backs. In fact I can get almost obsessive about making a route into a circuit if at all possible. And I feel quite intrepid and adventurous if I am a long way from home. I have an OS map of our area and sometimes plan my routes on that, although I have done all the obvious ones within my distance ability now.

No run for me today. Achilles a bit achy and swollen. It is a recurrent problem and I know from experience that resting it is best, although it was very frustrating on such a lovely day Sad.

orangeflutie · 04/05/2015 20:56

Well done OhOne and razor on your races.

I have 2 runs to add: 4 miles on Friday and 6 miles yesterday lunchtime. I went out later as couldn't face the heavy rain first thing.

I seem to have entered VLM ballot in a moment of madness. ( might not get in though).

suzannecanthecan · 04/05/2015 21:00

Im not sure if the pita is from running on consecutive days, perhaps I will rethink my strategy, it's gone off a bit now.
Hard seat are definitely not welcome I agree Anglaise

My achilles/ankles often feel a bit 'iffy' Family, but it hasnt really turned into a thing
and I have my first black toe nailShock

All these 'glitches' seem to be a constant companion with running and I am always wondering, 'is that an actual pain or is it just discomfort Confused'

Sometimes a glitch which feels worrying just disappears, and other times things which actually stop me running appear out of the blue.

Not sure exactly what my overall point is here, except maybe that the whole thing seems counter-intuitive

Anglaise1 · 04/05/2015 21:11

I have my first black toe nail
LOL, black toenails ans ugly feet...the legacy of runners. I lost another toenail last week, I think that's the third. They soon grow back, though Smile
Good luck with your VLM ballot entry Orange! How long do you have to wait before knowing if you're in or not?

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 04/05/2015 21:12

I suffer with Achilles pain from tine to time (like right now Wink). i've had tendonitis in my wrist a couple of times as well, so I reckon I just have dodgy tendons or something.

That reminded me I met a shoe twin at parkrun last week - the first time I have ever seen anyone else in the UK in my Saucony Triumphs (they were very popular when I lived in the US).

LaughingM · 04/05/2015 21:18

Well done on your 10ks ohone and sazor. I'm sure baby cuddles were a lovely incentive to get over the finish line ohone!

Suzanne sorry about the ongoing PITA. You have reminded me to get up in a minute and do my IT band stretches as I dived straight in the shower when I got in earlier as I was soaked through.

8 from me from yesterday and today + 10 from orange = 216.15

holmessweetholmes · 04/05/2015 21:27

Yy to the ugly feet! Mine are very rough and gnarly atm, plus I have a massive blister. Haven't had a black or lost toenail yet though - I'm obviously not trying hard enough Grin.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 04/05/2015 22:16

I would hate to be responsible for making it even harder for any of my running friends to get lucky in the VLM ballot, so I will stay out Grin Wink

alleypalley · 04/05/2015 22:38

After wine and take out last night, I managed a very slow and painful 6 miles this morning. I should have done it yesterday but opted for a lie-in instead.

222.15

Then I met my friend later and we went for a long walk and I have managed to get quite a nasty blister on my big toe joint so I'm not sure how many miles I'll manage this week, but I'll strap it up and see how I get on.

I did my VMLM ballot entry today too. Fingers crossed for a place, me and 4 other friends have entered, so there is virtually no chance of us all getting which is a shame, but I really hope my one particular friend gets in as she has been going down to cheer all the runners on every year for the last 10 yrs so I really hope she has the chance to actually experience it for herself.

lastqueenofscotland · 04/05/2015 23:03

2 dreadful miles from me today, going for 4.5 tomorrow so hopefully that will be better!

224.15

AggressiveBunting · 05/05/2015 03:41

ohone well done on your 10k time. Glad you got a BabyC cuddle. My DC now say "Ugh, go away mum- you're wet and stinky" Grin so best to pounce on them before they can talk.

Anglaise and Suzanne Sympathies - I think you're gonna have to eat some pies to get more butt padding!

Re detaching toenails, I find it's best to try to keep them on as long as possible even if they're flapping a bit as it protects the new nail growing underneath. I lost one after my last 50k as got a blister underneath and didnt realise for a couple of days.

I tend to run a circular route from home, or quite often I get a bus or taxi somewhere and then run back (or vice versa). Occasionally I even get the ferry to another island which is very rural and has the best hiking trails. It's a big time suck though.

Adding 10.55 from this morning to make 234.7

HalleLouja · 05/05/2015 09:05

5.5 miles to add from yesterday makes 240.2.

emummy · 05/05/2015 10:29

4 mile progression run this morning. Very very wet, quite muddy, great fun! And happy with the pace I got up to, and the ankle isn't sore at all. Hurray! Now have bathrooms to clean before yoga, what fun

244.2

stoatystoat · 05/05/2015 11:07

I've been running a bit but forgot to update here! I had a break as I was feeling fed up (TTC but not that long, just that I had a mc in Feb and when I get my period these days, I can't get motivated) but gotten back into it again the last couple of weeks. Yesterday I broke the 5k distance I normally do, got to 6.5km and I reckon I could have got to 7k ok but I was near home. Like PP, I prefer a circle route and don't like to be too far away. Circuits are dull as. I'd like to get to 10k eventually. I am super impressed that I took my running kit on a weekend away and actually used it. Not sure how much running I'll get in this week what with the weather forecast...

I'm contemplating quitting my gym membership as running outdoors is my preferred mode...

runtothehills · 05/05/2015 13:30

Amazingly no black toenails since I went up a size in shoes last year. Have just lost big thick bit of skin over my bunion on my left foot after it blistered on the MM. Now looks like I have a big hole in the side of my foot (TMI sorry).

Also having a knee issue since the MM, think I must have twisted it at some point. Result has been pain on any distance over 4 miles. I did 5 with my DSis on Sunday and then did lots of ice, ibuprofen and stretches. Today I strapped it up first and it felt better, but still aware of it. Did manage 11 miles though, very wet and muddy.

On route topics I like circle routes best, never see the same thing twice and more of a journey. There and back routes tend to be when going up a hill, though do try and make them circle ones too. Don't ever do loops nor enter races that do them. Best routes are one ways with a nice helpful car driver to drop you off or pick you up.

No marathon ballot for me, but starting on training for 28 mile trail race in 8 weeks time. This time all on paths, and hopefully no snow!

244.2 + 5 + 11 = 260.2
