7 miles, 4 of which were 2 minute hill intervals. Legs still tired from weekend.

Well done emummy and Anglaise on your races. Halle brilliant effort, how are you going to carry on? Junathon perhaps Wink

family a great run to start off June.

I've just got myself a foam roller, off to feel some post intervals pain!

Legs much better with ice and ibuprofen - did 5.37km today - 3.3miles

58.63

Aiming to run every other day round my loop and get it under 30min by the end of June.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 02/06/2015 15:36

3.45 windy miles. When I had the wind at my back and it was downhill I felt like i was skipping along like a five year old Grin, but when I was running into the wind I felt about 100 Grin. I cycled to and from the park too, so another 3.5 on my bike as well (which I won't count).

I heart my fan roller runtothehills

I thought I was actually going to be blown off the path OhOneOhTwoOhThree!!!

I didn't go to the social club run today as it was too far away and it would have meant leaving ds3 for 2hrs so I ran at home and my running buddy joined me only my fitness is improving post pregnancy and hers isn't so she kept apologising and was feeling really rubbish Sad. We did 4.6 miles and I enjoyed myself anyway!!

Total doing well already! 66.68

Anglaise1 · 02/06/2015 19:59

Cinnamon you are amazing, DS3 is how old? Wow.
Poppy good news that you have found a gym without AC, not that there is much need for AC with the chilly temperatures at the moment.
11.6 from my club run tonight. No leg stiffness at all, just the usual PIYTA.
Club coach v happy all of our performances Sunday (a couple of guys from the club came first in the marathon duo race). He has organised a VMA test on the track Thursday so I'll go along to find out what my max kph is in reality.

4.08 miles for day 2 of Juneathon. I can't run two days in a row so did a corr strength and flexibility workout video last night.

Very pleased with my 4 miles - and with no twinges in the shins or knees.

I would have given tonight a miss usually because it's so windy, but I knew it wouldn't have yput any of you off so out I went! Thanks for the virtual shove everyone Smile

5.34 miles IM SO SICK OF THE WIND. It is worse than being caught in the hail storm the other week!!!

lastqueenofscotland · 02/06/2015 21:01

Oops sorry 87.70 I think my maths is crap

BobblesAndClips · 02/06/2015 21:42

Hi, can I join you all? Been reading this thread over the last few days and after a short 2.5 mile run tonight and it being the start of the month it feels like a good time to say hello!

I'm finally getting back into running after having my DC (have tried a few times but kept getting injured and never made it to the point where it got easier and enjoyable) and am really enjoying it now. Am only up to about 4 miles but aiming for a couple of 10ks over the next few months.

My current goal is to do my local parkrun in under 30 minutes (although it's very hilly which is hindering me, am v sloooow up hills!)

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 02/06/2015 22:00

Hello Bobbles Smile Did you know we have a parkrun thread as well? come and say hello there too Smile

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 02/06/2015 22:12

Hi bobbles Smile

I'm super slow in general, so you're already spanking me.

cinnamongreyhound · 02/06/2015 22:21

I'm amazing?!? Says the woman who's done 11+ miles today and is super speedy Anglaise1! He will be 8 weeks Friday Grin

Welcome BobblesAndClips!

Loueytb3 · 02/06/2015 22:28

Welcome bobbles - I'm a relatively new joiner as well Smile

Just posting my first June run - 5 miles. First I've managed since last week as we were away over the weekend.

Aggressive thank you for the info on the intervals - it sounds brutal but I will give it a go as we have a track within 5 minutes of my house.

Halle are you enjoying the rest or are you going to keep going in June? I would love to do the Whipsnade 10k but sadly I have to limit the races as they clash with DC's swimming/tennis lessons and someone would have to miss something as DH can't do them all on his own. There is a local race that morning as well and I can't do that which I'm gutted about.

cinammon I hadn't realised that you had given birth that recently Shock congratulations Wine and well done on getting back out there!

suzanne how many miles have you done in your current trainers? Mine started to rub after a few miles after being fine for ages (including through a marathon) and someone suggested it was just that they had lost their cushioning. When I added up the mileage, I'd done 500 miles in them, which explained it. Bought a new pair of trainers (same make/model) and haven't had any problems since. Otherwise, try different lacing techniques as I know that others have done that and it has solved the problem.

So today starts day 1 of marathon training (although I haven't signed up for it yet). I'm trying to run 4-5 times per week, the last (and only) one I've done I ran on 3 runs a week so I am racking it up a bit. This could all go pear-shaped when I'm on holiday however....

Sparklepup · 02/06/2015 22:52

4 miles of intervals from me tonight - hard but worth it Grin

96.70

Whowouldfardelsbear · 03/06/2015 09:02

January 2457.51
February 2085.5
March 1674.3
April 1534.65
May 1702.77

This gives a five month total of 9454.73 or roughly like running from London to Ayres Rock in Australia (if such a thing were possible or desirable)

I am out of running action for this week while DH is away in China of all places for some kind of work meeting. He has already managed to lost his work credit card and his personal credit card. Not too bothered as it is pissing down and cold and dark here now, but keen to keep up my running for the Wellington 10k in July!

HalleLouja · 03/06/2015 09:12

7.3 miles to add from last night makes 104.0.

Its funny that sometimes 5k can feel like the longest run ever. But then you can do over 7 miles and it feels amazing. The second half I ran by myself and ran much faster than I normally do by myself. Weird.

Louey that's a shame. Would be nice if we could meet at a race sometime soon. Though I am not really racing over the summer. I think I might do some of the Hatfield 5 mile races. They are nice and flat.

Runtothehills not carrying on my streak but did wake up on Monday morning and think I fancied a run. Though I was going to go to Hiit on Monday and DH wasn't home in time.

I am reading the Born to Run book and am tempted to buy some barefoot running trainers. Am not brave enough to run barefoot totally.

AnnPerkins · 03/06/2015 10:56

Hi BobblesandClips I'm new too. Looks like we're pretty similar in terms of distance and speed at the moment.

Sounds like you had one of those great runs that keep you going through the crap ones HalleLouja. Your 31 day streak has certainly paid off.

I am looking at shoes and shoe suppliers today. I've just got a small surprise bonus from work which I can spend guilt free on new running shoes. Now that budget isn't my biggest concern I would like to get the best shoes I can because I plan to increase distance a lot over the next year or so (goal is Race to the Stones 2016).

As an over pronator who has suffered with shin splints I've always worn motion control shoes but they are heavy. I like the sound of barefoot running or minimalist shoes but not sure if they would be a good idea. I'm desperate not to get injured again. Any other over pronators on here who can advise?

familygermsareok · 03/06/2015 11:30

Have discovered another option for nutrition during runs. Flies! It was Insect Central on my route this morning. Little sods were so intent on mating they never noticed wind was blowing them straight into my mouth. I don't mind spitting the odd one out but this morning was getting ridiculous.

A lovely sunny though rather windy fly-fuelled 7.15 miles Smile

Whowould that's interesting seeing our totals. Our combined effort is pretty impressive!

AnnPerkins I over pronate and use supported shoes. I use Mizuno Wave Inspires which are lightweight and have been brilliant for me. Never had shin splints though. I really fancied trying minimalist shoes, especially after reading Born to Run ( which I loved, such an inspiring book). I spoke to the running shop staff and read up on runners world articles and the consensus was that if you do make the change do it gradually, slowly increasing your miles in minimalist shoes, don't just go out and do the same distance you usually do. However I am running well with few problems in my current shoes so eventually decided it wasn't worth changing for the sake of it.

Hi Bobbles, welcome Smile

104.0 +7.15 = 111.15

AnnPerkins · 03/06/2015 11:51

familygerms thank you for your advice. I admit that I'm not keen to start all over again. I also think it's not worth changing for the sake of it. I will look for a stability shoe that's not so heavy.

Hope all those flies haven't spoiled your lunch Wink

Anglaise1 · 03/06/2015 12:00

I'm reading Born to Run at the moment but nothing would make me trade in my running shoes to go minimalist or barefoot! It's an inspiring read, though, even if Ann Trason disputes some of the Leadville trail race commentary.
I overtook a barefoot runner at around 25kms in my race on Sunday, he was walking...
7 miles from me this morning, glorious weather, beautiful countryside, no aches or pains at all, wish I'd had time to go further!
122.15

PoppyShakespeare · 03/06/2015 12:13

111.15 + 4 = 115.15

PoppyShakespeare · 03/06/2015 12:14

126.15? Grin

lastqueenofscotland · 03/06/2015 12:56

Hi bobbles!
Who would that's so cool to know. Thanks for working that out.

Finally giving into how sore I am :( taking till Saturday off when I'm staying at my fathers on Friday night who lives by a river so will go for four miles then but itching to go tonight. They say don't run before you can walk, so assume don't run if you can't walk is ask true. (I literally cannot negotiate stairs atm)

holmessweetholmes · 03/06/2015 19:02

I loved Born to Run, Anglaise! I don't do barefoot, but it did inspire me to change to a forefoot strike (no more foot injuries, touch wood ) and wear slightly lighter shoes.

I haven't run for a week and a half because I have a lousy cold and cough. Feels like it's getting worse rather than better. Guess I'm not going to make it to my first HM which is this Sunday Sad.
