Hi everyone, new thread started! Grin

OP posts:
orangeflutie · 29/05/2015 19:54

I've not posted for a while as I seem to have another injury that's frustrating me. I've been aware of an ache in my left thigh since I did a HM in March and it now seems to be getting worse. I've cut down on the running. I ran 3 miles last Sunday and have done a small amount of alternative exercise in the gym. Today I tried another three miles and it didn't feel too bad at the time but is now hurting again??

I've no idea what I've done and I guess I'll just have to run less. If I stop completely though my back plays up. Argghh! Is so annoyingAngry. Would go to the physio but have used up all private healthcare physio treatment (on neck) until August and can't afford to pay.
Feeling quite fed up as it seems to be one thing after another at the moment ..

Sympathies to others who are injured and hope things continue to get better for you Socks. Will now go and catch up on what I've missed.

Hope you all have a good Friday evening.

SocksRock · 29/05/2015 22:19

Ice and ibuprofen can only take me so far. I need to seriously address my weight as well. As impressive (to my mind) that I can do a 30min 5k while 3 stone overweight and in the obese category (did this in Feb), it is very very clear that it is not good for my joints and muscles. But that is another thread!

Anglaise1 · 30/05/2015 08:48

For anyone who has the same problem as I do with my arms flapping uselessly about like a seal, this video from a teaching running website is really useful in telling you what they should be doing. There are probably a lot of other useful tips on there too.

lastqueenofscotland · 30/05/2015 12:34

a VERY HILLY 10k this morning, from someone who is the queen of avoiding hills, and delighted beyond words with 56:33 and 35th of 138 women :)

familygermsareok · 30/05/2015 17:04

Congratulations lastqueen, that is fantastic. Hills hold no fear for you now!Smile

Sympathies orangeflutie. Injuries are so frustrating, especially when there is no definite cause and it is difficult to know what to do for the best.

Glad your legs are improving Socks. I have lost over 2 stone since starting running, it took a bit of time but weight slowly reduced and I have been happily stable for a few years now.

3.1 lovely sunny parkrun from me today Smile

1565.22 + 6.2 VERY HILLY ones from lastqueen Wink + 3.1 from me = 1574.52

HalleLouja · 30/05/2015 18:25

3.1 parkrun miles to add from me 1577.62. One day to go. Whoop.

cinnamongreyhound · 30/05/2015 19:22

Well done lastqueenofscotland

I lost 5.5st with my fitness pal and running SocksRock, nearly 3 years down the line I've settled at a slightly higher weight but still healthy weight and mostly size 8 clothes. When you're ready to do it you will, and no wish you lots of luck!

No running from me todG as I woke up feeling horribly nauseous and thought parkrun would be a bad idea. Missed it terribly Sad
Had a better afternoon then fell asleep in the car on the way home and feel awful again!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 30/05/2015 19:33

I have been too busy to run for the last 10 days, but have been lurking enviously on the thread. I managed 3.1 parkrun miles this morning.

1580.72

Massive well done to you Halle for keeping going all through May, and congratulations on your hilly 10K lastqueen

Waves to everyone.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 30/05/2015 19:35

Oh and I can confirm (because she is too modest to say so herself) that cinnamon was straight back into her size eights within days of giving birth Envy Grin

Blatherskite · 30/05/2015 19:46

Hooray! I've found you all again - Thanks cinnamon :)

Juneathon starts on Monday so I should have plenty of running to log very soon

suzannecanthecan · 30/05/2015 20:58

11.50 from me
1592.22

I'm starting to get toe blisters and black toe nails, bit puzzled as to why, I've not increased mileage or speed, same shoe rotation
feet may have spread but my non running shoes dont feel tighter
Perhaps my gait has changed.confused]

Initial googling suggests that once this starts the nails become more prone to it and it becomes an ongoing issue.
I foresee regular minor toe surgery procedures :(

Tiredemma · 31/05/2015 07:55

Im doing a 8.5mile run today (great midlands fun run)- feel like crap though-
Hope I get through it!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 31/05/2015 09:09

Suzanne would it be worth getting your gait checked at a running shop? I have been using the same trainers for several years - well not the same pair obviously, but regular replacements of the same brand/style Smile. One of the versions didn't suit my feet as well - the back was just a tiny bit higher and rubbed on my heels when I walked (strangely enough not when I ran).

Hope your run goes well Tiredemma Smile

suzannecanthecan · 31/05/2015 09:25

Maybe Ohoneoh, but I don't think that there is anything wrong with my gait, more that it likely evolves over time as running economy improves.
I think it's partly to do with distances, generally I am fine for the first 8 miles and then my shoes start to feel a little tight.

I would like to go to a running shop but there are not many near me and they don't seem to have a great range of shoes, I'm very keen on wide toe boxes and particularly altra.
With longer distance running becoming more of a thing (not that my runs are especially long) I really think that shoes are lagging behind, they need to be more foot shaped.
I waiting for custom made 3D printed shoes to become available ?Grin

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 31/05/2015 10:11

I like the idea of 3D printed shoes!

If your gait has evolved maybe you need a different shoe?

suzannecanthecan · 31/05/2015 10:43

I need a custom made shoe :o

twobambinos · 31/05/2015 10:43

Hope all those who were raving this weekend got on well.

Congrats on your very impressive 10km last queen.

Cinnamon hope you are feeling better today.

1592.22 plus my 1.75 earlier in week is 1593.97

Will try get out later today for a "long" run.

Socks I find I eat more after exercise so it has no change on my weight but alot have commented on how much more toned I look. Perhaps the same for you?

Sorry for those with black toes, I have a black blister it's unsightly but its not sandal weather yet here anyway Grin

suzannecanthecan · 31/05/2015 10:45

or sandals to free up my toesWink

Whowouldfardelsbear · 31/05/2015 12:05

Hello again all! Back from my holiday and have a total of:

3.11
3.02
3.02 and
2.05 to add in so that makes us 1605.17

I didn't get nearly as much running in as I wanted but I have managed to get my 5km below 30 minutes! It was just too darn warm out to run in the day, but dark by about 5pm and I didn't fancy running in strange neighbourhoods in the dark.
Will be ready to update the May total when you UK crowd catch up!

lastqueenofscotland · 31/05/2015 12:19

Well done whowould!

10.5 in the pissing wind and rain this morning. I'm going to go and eat a whole pizza now don't judge...

lastqueenofscotland · 31/05/2015 13:30

Oh yeh need to add them up!!
1615.67

Also my shoes are looking very very tired with all the running to from work and I need new ones... Neutral runner get on best with new balance as a rule... Anyone seen any pretty ones....

Tiredemma · 31/05/2015 14:16

I would like to add my 8.5 Miles please!! Longest I have ran since GNR 2012

I am buzzing

1624.17

lastqueenofscotland · 31/05/2015 14:35

Well done tired!!! Enjoy the high :)

runtothehills · 31/05/2015 17:29

Checking in with 20 miles from yesterday. Reece of race I'm doing next month but without the road sections at the start and finish. Once again the snow gods smiled upon me and I was "blessed" with a couple of cm of the stuff for the middle 3 miles which also coincided with the helpful boulder field Smile.

Well done tired , welcome back whowould. Two unfortunately I was unable to do any "raving" this weekend Wink, unless you count my glass of Wine and sing-along to Billy Idol Grin

emummy and Anglaise hope your races have gone well.

20 + 3 (slow recovery run today) + 1624.17 = 1647.17

Anglaise1 · 31/05/2015 18:32

Runtothehills can't believe you are still getting snow and well done on your 20 miles yesterday.
Tired congrats on your longest ever run and lastqueen on your hilly 10k.
Back from my marathon (we all had a meal together after, although I couldn't eat or drink much, sadly the immodium didn't work for my GI problems Sad). The weather was rainy and windy, but not too cold and we did a time of 3H38mins - my part was 22.2kms and I did it in 1H50 so around 7.5mph average which I was happy with (considering the pitstop). We were 14th feminine duo out of 109 so not too bad. I ran the second half and as Aggressive has mentioned took great pleasure in targetting other duo women and overtaking as many as possible. I was only overtaken by one but overtook loads Grin
Emummy how was your HM?
