Hi everyone, new thread started! Grin

OP posts:
holmessweetholmes · 20/05/2015 15:49

Thanks Ohoneohtwoohthree! I'm pleased I did it, but can't believe how much it's taken out of me. I feel like a wrung - out rag, slightly queasy and like my hips are going to dismantle themselves. I rather think this HM will be a one - off for me. 10k might be more realistic on a regular basis.

Anglaise1 · 20/05/2015 17:22

Well done on getting out Holmes and well done on a rest day LastQueen. It'll probably do you some good. I've run every day for a couple of weeks and actually did a dog walk this afternoon instead of a run. It made a lovely change. 50+ miles a week is probably too much at my age. My PITA is getting worse too so am going to see the doctor tomorrow.
12 miles yesterday + 3.1 today =
1129.28

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 20/05/2015 18:09

I hope you feel a bit better soon holmes

5 miles to add from me. Lovely sunny evening run along the river watching the rowers (and avoiding being run over by the coaches who cycle alongside shouting encouragement at them), then into the country park, along the trails and out by a lake where there was just enough of a breeze for people to be out messing around in boats.

Anglaise hope the doctor can sort out your PITA. DH has finally accepted that he needs to get his knee looked at again (although as it has taken serval months for him to reach this point it will probably take several more for him actually to go to the GP to get referred).

1134.3 (I did 5.02 by my garmin, rounded it down to 5 and then saw we could use the 0.02 to get us to one decimal place )

cinnamongreyhound · 20/05/2015 18:25

Quickly posting this link to wobbly wobbly log jog in case anyone is interested and will read back later Smile

Anglaise1 · 20/05/2015 18:39

ohone thanks, of not the doctor I'll get some free physio with a prescription so fingers crossed! I hope you manage to get your OH to to se the doctor sooner rather than later. At least he has accepted there is a problem with his knee which is progress!
My right foot is getting quite bad now, my big toe is almost crossing over the second toe now it is so cramped because of the bunion deformity. With size 8.5 shoes I can still run but in my shoes (or rather boots 'cos I live in jeans and boots when not running) it is getting painful.

lastqueenofscotland · 20/05/2015 19:26

Angliase I knowwww a rest day is probably for the best.
I had a race on sunday
ran monday
ran twice tuesday (both 5.5 miles)
running twice tomorrow
can't run on friday as have to travel
9.5 miles on saturday and not on a flat course.
sunday i'll probably try and do a 5k.....

im not good at rest days i get bored! I often feel the benefit the day after but today i am insufferable, I just have too much energy and am like a hyper child. No idea how I'm going to sleep!!

suzannecanthecan · 20/05/2015 19:54

11.56 from me
1145.86

suzannecanthecan · 20/05/2015 20:00

Lastqueen, re excess energy on rest days would some other form of exercise help?
I'm not really up to doing any more running than I currently do but am fine with other things on the days I dont run.

My pita is sort of lurking in the background but stable and sort of receding over the long term, I think Confused

Anglaise, it may well be that a physio would give you some small and simple exercise or movement to do just to correct whatever is causing the pita?

I should probably go back and see my physio really

lastqueenofscotland · 20/05/2015 20:01

Suzanne I've walked 4 miles, and ran up 4 flights of stairs at work (lift broken... running late)!! I think its more psychological than anything else.

cinnamongreyhound · 20/05/2015 20:05

Sorry it was a toughy holmessweetholmes, you'll ace 18k Grin

Good luck with Dr Anglaise1! I love running but also enjoy my dog walks and some days go further than they need just because I'm happy being out.

Sounds wonderful OhOneOhTwoOhThree!

Your post made me Grin lastqueenofscotland!

runtothehills · 20/05/2015 21:53

Family love your post, sometimes a run can just makes you feel so good Smile

holmes I take it you must have made it home after you stopped so you may well have covered near the 18k distance anyway, so now you just have to do the last bit a little faster Wink Re your question about other activities, I do Metafit/FBX once a week which is followed by a 30 min abs class which is good for core, arm strength and intensity training. I also teach Pilates 2x a week. On top of that my job is pretty physical especially with arm strength, which helps keep me going on my otherwise rest days.

5 miles this evening at club handicap hill race = 1149.86

HalleLouja · 20/05/2015 21:54

3.1 miles added from day 20 of Every Day in May.

Makes 1148.96.

I have walked, run or cycled 5k every day in flipping May.

Whoever was asking about other exercises I try to do 1/2 hiit classes a week and a body conditioning class. However, this May thing has got in the way.

HalleLouja · 20/05/2015 21:55

X post makes 1152.96

holmessweetholmes · 20/05/2015 22:21

Wow, runtothehills - you must be a superwoman with all that strength stuff ! Grin

runtothehills · 20/05/2015 22:26

I tell my children that Wink The reality is somewhat different as she sits with a packet of crisps, a sneaky midweek glass of veno, and contemplates the dairy milk in the fridge

lastqueenofscotland · 20/05/2015 22:38

run to the hills i am so impressed.
I am terrible for avoiding hills, you've inspired me for my long run on saturday to go the route with a big hill at the beginning, a hilly bit in the middle and a hill right at the end. not the totally flat one.
not the route with the hill that my car can struggle with either, but considering there is a TOTALLY flat run i can do not too bad!

Must stop avoiding hills. I only ever do them if I'm setting out just to run up and down them. If I'm actually running i try and stick to flat routes... lazy cow.

suzannecanthecan · 20/05/2015 22:52

I didn't realise that you are a pilates instructor Runtothehills
Sounds like an interesting line of work!
I sort of toyed with the idea of taking a course to qualify as an instructor several years ago, as I remember the cost of the course was 2 or 3 thousand!

suzannecanthecan · 20/05/2015 22:53

I live at the top of a hill, my last mile is always all uphill :(

lastqueenofscotland · 20/05/2015 22:56

my last maybe 200 meters is uphill, but there is a bigger hill i could do that i ALWAYS avoid... so going to do that on saturday.

I hate hills.

lastqueenofscotland · 20/05/2015 22:57

i've also entered a hilly 10k
i still hate hills. though hoping a hilly 10k won't feel too bad after a hilly 15k the week before!?

HalleLouja · 21/05/2015 05:13

five alive I am running, walking or cycling 5k every day in May. Managed to hurt my hip at the start but it's mainly recovered now. Did walk quite a bit last week. Am missing my normal routine though and will be glad when it's over.

holmessweetholmes · 21/05/2015 07:11

It's impossible to avoid hills around here! Even my Parkrun is a bit hilly. The HM is too .

emummy · 21/05/2015 11:03

4.2 miles today, intervals, a slightly easier session now that tapering has begun. Tried out the charity vest, it felt comfy so that's good.
I have one route to avoid hills, on a former railway line, but doing the same stretch over and over gets a bit boring, so I usually just have to do the hills for variety!
I chose my hm very carefully holmes, downhill at the start then largely flat the rest of the way! My local hm in September is a lot more bumpy!

1157.16

stilllearnin · 21/05/2015 11:53

quick check in - 5 from me and was feeling quite poorly so enjoyed the walking the remaining 1.5 i had planned to run!

1162.16

holmessweetholmes · 21/05/2015 12:11

I chose my HM because the course looked so pretty Blush.
