Hi everyone, new thread started! Grin

OP posts:
holmessweetholmes · 19/05/2015 08:13

That's a good target, Neeko. I'm hovering around the 30 mins time myself, but have never managed to stay reliably under it! My actual PB is 28:16 but that was a few years back. I'd been back up to over 30 for aaages but have got two sub 30's in the last couple of weeks - yay!

Am postponing my long run (16k - gulp! ) to tomorrow as we have torrential rain here which, by the look of the black sky, is set for the day. Well... people did warn me about moving the Lakes!

holmessweetholmes · 19/05/2015 08:33

I meant to ask - do any of you do weights or any other form of strength training? Or yoga or pilates. As I'm only doing 3 runs a week atm, I could certainly fit in another workout of some kind to complement my running. I have done yoga before and could probably do that on my own. I also have a set of free weights. I'm just wondering which would be best. Or maybe I could do both!

HalleLouja · 19/05/2015 09:18

6.2 miles from my 10k to add plus 3.1 from yesterday makes 1057.9 this month so far.

familygermsareok · 19/05/2015 09:18

Gush away lastqueen, it's lovely when you get that feeling from a run, someone coined a great term for it recently, a 'Goldilocks' run I think it was (correct me if I'm wrong). Running makes me feel better and happier in every aspect of my life Smile

Sounds like your new coach is working you hard aggressive, hopefully all that effort will pay off.

Well done Neeko on improving times, it's always very satisfying to see them get better.

holmes I don't do any other type of training so have no knowledge re that myself but loads of people on here do and I'm sure it does help with running. I just don't have the time to fit anything else in.

4.84 gloriously sunny miles early this morning.
1048.6 + 4.84 = 1053.44

familygermsareok · 19/05/2015 09:20

X post, 1062.74

emummy · 19/05/2015 11:05

4.4 from me, nice easy paced run in the sunshine.

holmes I do an outdoor boot camp once a week and have recently started yoga. My class is in about half an hour actually! I always feel nicely stretched afterwards, and boot camp is a mixture of aerobic and strength work.

1067.14

holmessweetholmes · 19/05/2015 11:48

Thanks Familygermsareok and emummy - I definitely want something stretchy and core strengthy but non - impact. Just did a bit of yoga. It was hard because I haven't done it for ages, but it felt good. There's a class locally but unfortunately it's on a day I can't do.

stilllearnin · 19/05/2015 12:26

2.75 intervals from me and an extreme weather report. 1 mile sun, 1 mile hail, and the rest a mixture of the two brrr!

1069.89

AggressiveBunting · 19/05/2015 14:04

Did the 6.2 miles over the hills with a friend- no thunder/lightening but very low cloud so poor visibility- head torch was just throwing back at me. Pretty slow as a result. New total 1076.1

Holmes I do 2/3 sessions of Crossfit and 1 of yoga on top of running. Don't think the weights helps much as makes me too bulky really, but the HIT pays off in terms of better cardio capacity over steep/ uneven ground.

family It'd better pay off cos I'm not putting myself through that for nothing- thought my lungs were going to explode Grin

holmessweetholmes · 19/05/2015 15:00

Interesting, AggressiveBunting. I might go back to doing 30 day Shred or try out HIIT when I'm not training for the HM. Atm I want to do non - impact stuff on non - running days to minimise the risk of over-training injuries. Will try and keep on with the yoga, I think.

stilllearnin · 19/05/2015 15:15

Holmes have I recommended doyogawithme.com to you before? It's a nice website and free if you cannot get to a class. I love our yoga class we often roll around on the floor chanting and doing clitoril locks (yes that is what you think it is!) Wink

Anglaise1 · 19/05/2015 17:17

Holmes I don't do it enough but core body strength exercises, such as the plank, tricep curls and big girls push ups are very beneficial to runners. You can do those yourself. Upper body strength (not bulk) is important for runners too. Cycling and swimming are other excellent cross training exercises. I hate gyms (love exercising outdoors) so can't help on weight training!

holmessweetholmes · 19/05/2015 20:31

Oh excellent, still - will check that out. Your yoga class sounds... ummm... interesting Grin.

Anglaise - I guess I could probably manage a strength session and a yoga session a week. Hopefully might get out on my bike occasionally too, if the weather ever cheers up. Running in the rain is ok but cycling in the rain is just grim!

Dottymum2 · 19/05/2015 21:06

1082.4 with my 6.3 today, experienced what felt like four seasons in one run!!!! Still great to get out there though!!

UmBongo · 19/05/2015 21:35

Thank you all for your encouragement, I managed 2.45 miles in the 30 mins today, having proved on Sunday that I can still do half an hour I tried to go a bit faster - even if it was only to the next tree. I also did a few ab crunches when I got home to try and tame the wobbly mummy belly. I managed to wait until this evening, so I got to run in the evening sunshine, well done to those out running in the hail earlier!

1082.4 + 2.45 = 1084.85

lastqueenofscotland · 19/05/2015 21:36

11.14 over 2 runs. Second the last mile was in hail.... Sun came out as soon as I got in.

1095.99 (I think???)

UmBongo · 19/05/2015 21:48

Lou just been reading back a bit - are you running every day? Shock Cor and Wow and stuff!

cinnamongreyhound · 19/05/2015 22:20

This ist third attempt to post here today if it doesn't work I will sulk!

I don't chew jelly babies when running just let them dissolve runtothehills so no teeth involved Wink

Never thought/heard of a cardiac checkup Loueytb3 but it wouldn't hurt to ask even if they do think you're over caustious.

Good for you lastqueenofscotland and enjoy your run Saturday Smile

Smile EdithDickie

Well done Neeko!

We had weather from every season today but was dry for my run, yay!! Feeling stronger with each run and hopefully going to try a canicross run next Monday. 4.5 miles to add from me 1100.49

stilllearnin · 19/05/2015 22:47

Holmes i agree with the core work being really useful for running - I notice the difference. If you are just core, could you fit in a 15 min session a couple of times a week. Our yoga is quite interesting but we are all quite reserved (luckily or it would get out of control!). Have to take the van for an MOT on my next running day, was feeling a bit glum until I realised I can follow the river all the way home (should be between 4 and 6 miles)

holmessweetholmes · 20/05/2015 10:38

Oh god - I am having serious trouble getting myself off the sofa and out of the door for my 16k today. Can't motivate myself at all! Right ... getting kit on now.

Neeko · 20/05/2015 12:44

Go on, Holmes. You can do it!

3.75 from me this morning.

Neeko · 20/05/2015 12:45

Oops! Forgot the total 1104.24

holmessweetholmes · 20/05/2015 13:31

Dear lord. That nearly killed me! I miscalculated a bit and hit 16k a bit further away from home than I planned. Staggered to a halt and stopped my Garmin at 16k, thinking I'd have a leisurely cool-down stroll home, stood still for a moment, felt my hips seize up and seriously doubted I'd be able to walk it!

Anyway 9.94 sloow miles from me makes 1114.18. How on earth I'll manage 18k next week is anyone's guess.

lastqueenofscotland · 20/05/2015 14:30

Rest day today and climbing the walls compared to running twice a day!!

Entered a 10k for next Saturday to cheer me up. Natty medal by the looks of things too!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 20/05/2015 14:53

Well done holmes Smile

I'm climbing the walls too lastqueen. I have a day off today, and will go out at some point as a reward for all the other boring things I have to get done today.
