Hi everyone, new thread started! Grin

OP posts:
holmessweetholmes · 08/05/2015 15:36

Just ordered my new trail shoes from Sweatshop, having dragged around the local sports shops in vain. Let's hope they are the same (weird) sizing as the previous model!

suzannecanthecan · 08/05/2015 15:39

I'm so sure it's him, the person I remember was a medical student and his name was Dan.

Not sure I want to see him in his underwear though, something vaguely comical and off putting about men in their underwearBlush

IWantDanPoulterInsideMe · 08/05/2015 15:42

is not very revealing underwear sadly

I disapprove of this fashion for long baggy shorts :(

IWantDanPoulterInsideMe · 08/05/2015 15:43

Did he play rugby?

suzannecanthecan · 08/05/2015 15:49

yep, I think he was a rugby player and doing it bit of strength training in the gym, this was in the late 1990's

IWantDanPoulterInsideMe · 08/05/2015 15:59

yay! I'm glad I triggered that memory for you Grin

suzannecanthecan · 08/05/2015 16:06

thanks Polly yes I can picture him now, in his rugby shirt all those years ago:o

karatekimmi · 08/05/2015 18:03

back to the running chat and less of the perving at men in underwear thank you unless you want to post a picture and then I'd look, purely for political reasons, of course

I haven't ordered my 50 tshirt yet, and completed my 50th in January. so I figure there is a bit of a wait for me to go!!

I'm Marshalling at Market Drayton 10k on Sunday - anyone running in it?

IWantDanPoulterInsideMe · 08/05/2015 18:05

doesn't look like 18% body fat does it? Hmm no offence Dr Dan

It will be sent to which ever you have registered as your home parkrun holmessweetholmes, so you need to change it on your profile if you are regularly attending a different one. Are you on the parkrun thread?

suzannecanthecan · 08/05/2015 19:31

he does look a bit podgy doesnt he, maybe partly an unflattering photo, he was in better shape when I used to see him in the gym.

As for the 18%, well, I dunno, 18% might look lowish on a woman but it's not that low on a man (?)
Also he looks reasonably muscular, someone with more lean tissue can have more fat in absolute terms but it would constitute a smaller percentage of the overall body mass.

Imo he needs to work on his upper chest area.

IWantDanPoulterInsideMe · 08/05/2015 19:37

he's had a nasty back injury tho

(love how running thread doubles as Stalk A Health Minister thread Grin)

holmessweetholmes · 08/05/2015 19:48

Aha - I did change it to my new local Parkrun, so it should come here then. Fab! No, I'm not on the Parkrun thread - might go over and have a nosy!

suzannecanthecan · 08/05/2015 19:49

I suppose it's surprising he has time to exercise at all what with the whole political career thing and all that.
Perhaps if he came on here and added some running miles he could de-stress and drop a little bodyfat:o

Knackerelli · 08/05/2015 21:17

Kimmi - I'm not running market Drayton ( I wasn't organised enough to get my form in on time :-( ) but some friends from my running club are. Can you give loud cheers for those in wolves and bilston tops please!

lastqueenofscotland · 08/05/2015 23:08

Go away for a few days and it's all about naked men!!! 2x 4.5 miles from me in the last few days.
7 miles tomorrow

AggressiveBunting · 09/05/2015 02:02

Morning everyone. Not much to add here other than a 2 mile treadmill effort in lots of little bits as had my gait and VO max test yesterday. She confirmed that I have poor hip and ankle mobility and gave me some specific exercises. She also explained how poor mobility translates to worse performance/ efficiency due to less effective push off and shorter stride so now I'm motivated to do said exercises.

The VO Max test was quite horrible due to the mask. I also think I chose the wrong test structure- I went for speed up to 18 km/hr before the incline kicks in whereas I think I should have picked 16km/hr as the max. As a result I hit stop in minute 8 cos I was worried about flying off the back when it went up another km/hr rather than because I couldn't run for another second (I was hanging out but probably could have hung on for another 30 secs). I blew 49 which apparently is good for my age, but I was hoping to get in the 50's. Ah well- next time. There is a guy who wins a lot of the races here who has a VO Max of 71 which explains his amazeballness- he is obviously super fit but a lot of it is genetic apparently- most people can only improve within a range of about 10 or so. Good thing about the test is that it identified my optimal training zone and I have been coasting a bit so need to rectify that.

388.51 plus Last Queen's 9 miles and my 2 miles makes 399.51

EdithDickie · 09/05/2015 05:45

Hope that the exercises are effective Aggressive! The VO test sounds awful!

Today's the day. 24 hour endurance thing starts at noon. I have prepared by sleeping like total crap thanks to the rampaging butterflies in my belly!

It's this event hope24.team-hope.co.uk/ if anyone wants to have a look (so sorry, no idea how to do clicky links on my phone).

On team of 3 and running third so should be kicking off my first lap at some point around 1:45.

I will hopefully have a respectable amount of miles to add by the end of the weekend!

emummy · 09/05/2015 07:32

Best of luck Edith, am sure the butterflies will settle once you start. Hope you and your team do well and have a brilliant time

AggressiveBunting · 09/05/2015 07:37

Good Luck!! Wishing you all the best and make sure you let us know how you get on.........actually take your phone an update us every lap!!

Sazorchard31 · 09/05/2015 08:10

Good luck Edith and have a great time!!

Lagoonablue · 09/05/2015 08:16

Good luck everyone running this weekend.

We have a 10k here but I will do it next year.

Haven't run for 5 days as have terrible cold and am exhausted. I am going to try and sleep it off today (if DH takes kids out) and do a little jog tomorrow. I am missing running! How amazing is that? I only started running in Jan. I am annoyed though as was just working on increasing my distance and now this....

runtothehills · 09/05/2015 09:59

Is it just me or does the photo look as if he's had the 6 pack airbrushed onto him?!? Anyway back to running …..

Edith your race looks great, similar to a 24 MTB race my DH did earlier this year. Best of luck Grin

holmessweetholmes · 09/05/2015 10:25

A soggy Parkrun 3.1 from me makes 402.61 . Was hoping for another PB, but was 17 seconds slower than last week.

HalleLouja · 09/05/2015 10:26

Way slow that last week at parkrun but that makes 405.71.
