Hi everyone, new thread started! Grin

OP posts:
holmessweetholmes · 05/05/2015 15:12

Wow - I'm still a bit achy from my 12k yesterday, but caught myself thinking it would be nice to go for a run today! It really feels like the running bug has bitten me again after months and months of just occasionally dragging myself out! I think this thread must be helping!Smile

Need to get myself some new trail shoes as my trusty Adidas Kanadia are giving up the ghost. I want to get some more of them, but noticed there are several versions on sale (Kanadia 5's, 6's, and 7's - the latter being the most expensive and recent, obvs). Does anyone else wear these or know if there's much difference? Bit of a long shot, I know Grin.

LastGleaming · 05/05/2015 17:24

I also went up a size in shoes when I got a black toe and haven't had one since. As for ugly feet, well my pod reckons I have 'good looking feet' Hmm I disagree hobbit toes

I can't cope with the gym stoaty, it bores me within the first five minutes. You'd save a good bit I dare say if you gave it up, suppose it depends what you use it for though - classes, swimming, crosstraining?

I'm getting stuck with running routes and was complaining about it today. It's ok in the town but a lot of our roads are very busy going out of the town with no footpath, or only a tiny footpath. I've tried it before and was a nervous wreck by the end. Now they're building a big carriageway on one of my preferred routes and have done away with the footpath there and all.

6.2. First 10k in a long time, 9months I think, so was very happy to hit just under 58mins for it.

266.4

Lagoonablue · 05/05/2015 21:13

I need a long running top. All of mine end just on my bum and I would prefer to cover it! Any suggestions? I don't want to wear oversized stuff as that just swamps me so just need a fitted/semi fitted longer length top.

Thanks!

Anglaise1 · 05/05/2015 21:17

10 miles today, combination of dog run and club session of run followed by too many 200 & 300m intervals. But then a 'pot' afterwards (somebody brought the beers for their birthday) to help ease the aches.
Holmes so glad you are enjoying running again. Stoaty I couldn't do gyms, one of the reasons I love running is because I do it outdoors. And I'm lucky that where I live there are plenty of footpaths and running on the road isn't dangerous. I know when I go to my parents in the UK the roads are so windy and narrow that it is nearly impossible to run on them, especially as there is a lot more traffic than here in Brittany too.
Gleaming well done on your 10k.
runforthehills take care with your knee, can you get to see a physio at all about it? I can't wait to start trail racing in June after the Mont St Michel marathon (I'm doing it in duo) is over and done with.

cinnamongreyhound · 05/05/2015 21:24

4 miles from me on my clubs social run and took the dogs too. Bit tough with them on the line so let them off and they totally wore themselves out! Very tight hamstrings now for me though.

280.4 with Anglaise1's 10 miles too.

Anglaise1 · 05/05/2015 21:32

Thanks for adding my miles Cinnamon Blush
I can't believe you are up to running 4 miles already Shock Star

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 05/05/2015 21:37

Lagoona what about looking at yoga tops instead of running tops? I've noticed that some of the women in my yoga class seem to have some nice long (hip length) tops.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 05/05/2015 21:40

Well done cinnamon!

Lagoonablue · 05/05/2015 21:44

Ooh good idea. Thanks.

HalleLouja · 05/05/2015 22:20

4.3 miles to add from a lovely social run. Day 5 of every day in May now completed.

284.7

Wow Cinners 4 miles already is amazing.

Lagoon the Sweaty Betty Athletes tops might do the trick. Its worth keeping an eye out for their sales.

lastqueenofscotland · 05/05/2015 23:16

3.1 from me tonight!

287.8

AggressiveBunting · 06/05/2015 02:27

4 miles from me makes 291.8

Lagoon 2XU do a racer back vest that is quite long and fitted (but not compression)- nice light material. I'm 5'7'' and it comes to lowish bum on me, so if you're a little shorter that could work.

Cinnamon You rock!

Met my new running coach yesterday. He is confident that he can help me get some better times over the trail in the next season and seems really enthusiastic, so feeling quite positive about it all today. We're kicking off with a VO Max test and biomechanical analysis on Friday :-)

I'm doing a 4 Peak race on 16th that I've been in slight denial about. Total 3,500m ascent and decent (it's an out and back). Gah.

Neeko · 06/05/2015 07:40

3.5 from me today

285.3

LastGleaming · 06/05/2015 09:09

I'm so impressed you are doing 4 miles already cinnamon, well done.

Good job aggressive. 3,500!! My word.

Taking notes of these tops too as I'm long in the body.

Anglaise1 · 06/05/2015 09:14

Aggressive your new coach sounds good - it will be interesting to see if and how he changes your training programme. It will be interesting to know your VO2 max as well, are you doing it on a bike or treadmill?
Good luck for your 4 Peaks, 3500m ascent, gulp!
6.2 from me this morning
291.5

milly221 · 06/05/2015 10:10

hello :) i am running the manchester 10k this weekend, is anybody else? it is my first running event and im trying not to focus on my time too much but im so nervous about being one of the last ones! lol. i run 5k in 33mins which isn't fab but it's better than sitting on my backside :)

holmessweetholmes · 06/05/2015 11:01

Good luck with your run, milly221! I'm sure it will be great. There's nothing like crossing a finish line to give you a buzz and make you keep on enjoying your running!

UmBongo · 06/05/2015 14:33

Hello! I thought I would just pop up and wave madly! I have eaten too much Cake over the winter and put on too much winter lagging so will be starting running again soon but I couldn't resist a quick wave. I'll be back when I've got something to report.

HalleLouja · 06/05/2015 14:54

Waves at fivealive! Hopefully you will have something to report soon.

suzannecanthecan · 06/05/2015 16:10

12 miles from me
VERY WINDY Shock
(but good fun :o)
203.5

feetheart · 06/05/2015 16:17

Going to get blown round the Silverstone race circuit tonight in their annual 10k - time fully dependent on wind direction :)

holmessweetholmes · 06/05/2015 16:17

Oof Suzanne! 12 miles still sounds like an awfully long way to me, especially in the wind!

I have just looked at the course for my half marathon. Gulp. It is.... errrmmm. .. very hilly in places. I'm a bit worried I may not have chosen sensibly for my first HM . I was seduced into entering by the beautiful photos of the views from the course. Blush Lucky I'm doing hill training tomorrow eh?

suzannecanthecan · 06/05/2015 16:33

for 6 miles I ran like the wind (because it was pushing me along) and for the other 6 it was like trudging uphill
My average speed was a bit below what it would be on a moderately windy day (I run on the seafront so there are no non windy days) so I conclude that a headwind hinders more than a tail wind helps.

I'm not keen on hills either Holmes!

holmessweetholmes · 06/05/2015 16:46

I run on the sort-of-sea front too (estuary) and yes - always windy! Let's hope it's not windy for my hills tomorrow... Running uphill into the wind might be a bit much!

suzannecanthecan · 06/05/2015 16:51

to a certain extent I find wind is very helpful, it cools you down and being too hot (I find) makes running much harder work.

you'll probably be so pumped with endorphins and adrenalin that you'll not notice hills or wind :o
