Grab Your Tuna!

stevienickstophat · 18/03/2015 16:23

This is a thread about reclaiming exercise for those of us who never felt it was for us, or who lost our confidence after childbirth or illness or injury, or just lost our way a little bit regarding looking after ourselves.

This thread is about realising that getting up off the sofa and moving about a bit can be enjoyable, can be done in our pyjamas and can be fitted into lives that are too often lived for the benefit of other people.

This is a thread about firming up our wobbly bits, strengthening our bones, making our joints flexible and lifting our moods, so that the rest of our lives are that little bit easier and more enjoyable.

So, grab your tuna, wrestle yourself into your sports bra and watch out for the Little Differences!

Think I will do those tomorrow after a Davina. Thanks Peace

velmadinkly · 26/03/2015 18:45

Well, even though I've not done any exercise today, out of interest I weighed myself after I had my tea and I weigh less (0.2lb) than what I did last 2 Sunday mornings ago before any breakfast!

I know I've been doing WW alongside 7 minute fit, but I do think the exercise has really helped. Fingers crossed I see a good loss on Sunday morning. I also tried some trousers on this mor ing that I could get on a few weeks ago, but they were a bit tight around the thighs and a bit camel toe-ish, they look much better. I still don't think I could wear them all day because I'd end up feeling as though i was being cut in two, but still, its a small difference!

bimandbam · 26/03/2015 19:29

Well thanks to this thread and you amazeballs ladies I am proud to say so far this week (since sunday) I have walked 12 miles.

About 6 of them I wouldn't have done. Definitely not the school run today in the horrible wind.

So cheers!

Tomorrow depending on the wind situation I will either walk 2 miles or crack out davina. What routines did you all start with? Bearing in mind I am totally unfit and about 2 stone overweight? Sigh.

BuzzardBird · 26/03/2015 19:48

I only do the 'mild' ones as have disabilities. The easier ones are abs, tone and sculpt, box fit, fat burner and total stretch I have found. I find that if I follow any of the others with total stretch that I don't get any aches or pains other than the ones I have anyway.

Moodykat · 27/03/2015 06:57

Morning everyone!

Did warm up and tone and sculpt again this morning as still not feeling up to the energetic ones!

I was very, very unfit but yesterday I ran up the stairs to the bosses office and was able to actually speak to him straight away! Small difference!

PeteCampbellsRecedingHairline · 27/03/2015 09:06

Did Warm up, legs, abs, tone and sculpt, and stretch yesterday.

Knees are aching today so will give myself the day off.

PeaceOfWildThings · 27/03/2015 09:46

Did day 5 of the plan I've been following this week. Plus a 7 minute 'little black dress' pilates and bodyweight routine. I'll probably have the weekend off.

good efforts everyone!

BuzzardBird · 27/03/2015 10:30

Warm up, advanced abs, boxfit and stretch. Now fit to drop.

Well done everyone. :)

PeaceOfWildThings · 27/03/2015 10:56

I don't want to derail the thread with food, but reminding everyone to eat... I'm trying to eat more in the mornings after a work out to avoid less healthy snacks. Here is my mid morning breakfast/snack/lunch! :)

Peace that looks yummy!

velmadinkly · 27/03/2015 14:00

No Davina for me today, but I have been for a 30 minute swim which was a combination of breaststroke, front crawl and backstroke. I do feel thinner and lighter inside IYSWIM.

Peace that food looks lovely. I've got 2 eggs boiling at the moment and I can't decide whether to have boiled eggs and soilders or an egg salad.

BuzzardBird · 27/03/2015 15:51

Well done velma I have a few more weeks to go before I can be seen in public wearing a swimsuit methinks.

I am eating after excercise 2 low carb sausages and a poached egg and I am finding it is keeping me going until early evening. I put on some jeggings today that are usually a bit uncomfortable and they fit much better.

AnotherGirlsParadise · 27/03/2015 15:57

Delurking to come and join you all (waves) Smile It's only taken me since the first thread! I've got a stone and a half to lose before I get married later this summer, and I'm armed with Davina and my Fitbit - I'm going to bloody do this, dammit!

I've lost nearly a stone in the past 6 weeks, but I had an emergency C section last August and I've now got the dreaded stomach flap. I never had a flat tum anyway, but now it's just a car crash. It's not shifting, but then again I've only really been exercising/eating healthily those past 6 weeks, so I'm hoping it'll at least shrink a bit [hopeful]

I've got one dumbbell, a 4 pack of tuna and a new sports bra (that I walked 12 fucking miles for). Can I come in? Grin

BuzzardBird · 27/03/2015 17:05

Welcome Paradise you have done so well!

Come on in and pull up a yoga mat :)

Cafeconleche · 27/03/2015 17:51

Warm up, fat burner, tone and sculpt and 2/3 stretch. Love this thread - keeps my going even when I think I can't be arsed. 2k weights are more than enough and my arms are already showing a little Popeye action Shock

bimandbam · 27/03/2015 17:57

I have had today off purely because it has been bedlam.

Back on it tomorrow and Sunday with nice walks. Davina and walking Monday.

stevienickstophat · 27/03/2015 18:11

Right!

Two weeks off work starts today, and I am going to be so on it!

I've had a full-on week and have just been knackered when I've got home. Can't wait to be able to get back into the swing of things.

Thank goodness you are coming back stevie

AmazonGrace · 27/03/2015 18:40

Pops in waving her sick note!!

Well done to each and every one of you, I'll be back on track possibly tomorrow.

Interesting to read some of the sciatica posts. My Mum has been suffering over the past 5-6 months, she's just had blood tests to rule out anything more sinister, which thankfully have come back negative. Think the next step is physio, hopefully this will sort her, hate seeing her in pain.

AnotherGirlsParadise · 27/03/2015 19:09

Thank you Buzzard! Grin

This thread is great - even when I was just lurking it was fun to read Smile I had a bout of D&V a couple of weeks ago and couldn't exercise for nearly a week, it was shocking how quickly I lost motivation. Hopefully that doesn't happen again!

PeaceOfWildThings · 27/03/2015 20:20

Hello AnotherGirlsParadise lovely to see you. Wow, a stone in 6 weeks, that's amazing! I think it will take me three or four months to get my body into shape at the rate I'm going (not accounting for any major setbacks).

PeaceOfWildThings · 27/03/2015 20:21

Velma I do know what you mean about feeling 'thinner on the inside'! :-)

velmadinkly · 28/03/2015 08:21

Waving hello to our new comer anothergirls

I came downstairs and DH had taken DD to do the shopping, so I have done warm up, ultimate fat burner, fat burner, boxfit, abs and 1/3 stretch. However, what I am really excited about is that before I did the stretch I decided to see how many press ups, with my aim being 10, and I did 10!

cherrytree63 · 28/03/2015 09:58

You all seem such friendly folk that I feel brave enough to join in! I'm 51 and have had a gradual decline in fitness over the years. In the last three years I've had 2 x surgery and a bad leg injury that laid me up and I've found it increasingly hard to get my fitness back.
Also I've been really ill for 6 months with a respiratory problem, and just found out that I have a severe vit d deficiency.
I've been doing the Davina 10 minute warm up most days in the last week, coping well and recovering quickly, and doing a 15 minute "power" walk with the dogs that gets me really breathless (it's a bit hilly here) every day. I also muck out my two horses and groom them (but sadly not upto riding them yet).
So I'm planning to gently increase my fitness as my health improves, going to get the Davina 7 minute DVD and pop in this thread from time to time.
I'm like to lose a stone and firm up. Later this year I'm due to have a prophylactic mastectomy with auto reconstruction so want to be able to recover from that as quickly as possible.
As well as a good bra what exercise clothing would stop my "flap" and my bum jumping around?
Apolgies for long post! ??

PeaceOfWildThings · 28/03/2015 10:29

Ooh lovely, another new joiner and I get to be first to welcome you!
Gosh, sounds as if you have had some hard knocks, health wise, cherrytree. Sorry to hear you have had such a rough time of it. Hope the vit D supplements help and that your respiritory problem is better now. Especially when you have horses to look after too, and surgery coming up. I hope we can support you (support one another). Good to have you on board.

As for flapping. Well. When in the privacy of my own home I like it to flap as I think to myself that is extra exercise and it will help the flaps/flab reduce over time!
I have been putting on my sports bra since reading the good advice on these threads, but am then in my pj bottoms; unless I've had to give a DC an early lift somewhere, then I change into running kit so there's no getting out of the exercise when I get home!

When out running I wear bottoms from the running section in Sports Direct. They have support panels which help reduce most of the thigh/tummy/bum bounce. On top I wear a loose long sleeved running top (over front zip sports bra) which would ideally cover down to crotch level but sadly those are hard to find (or they ride up).
