Grab Your Tuna!

stevienickstophat · 18/03/2015 16:23

This is a thread about reclaiming exercise for those of us who never felt it was for us, or who lost our confidence after childbirth or illness or injury, or just lost our way a little bit regarding looking after ourselves.

This thread is about realising that getting up off the sofa and moving about a bit can be enjoyable, can be done in our pyjamas and can be fitted into lives that are too often lived for the benefit of other people.

This is a thread about firming up our wobbly bits, strengthening our bones, making our joints flexible and lifting our moods, so that the rest of our lives are that little bit easier and more enjoyable.

So, grab your tuna, wrestle yourself into your sports bra and watch out for the Little Differences!

Also to add, I am generally not well endowed in the norks department, but when I am overweight (like now) I do find they tend to bounce a bit when running/jumping and it used to hurt. I find the front zip sports bras I have tend to push the norks together in one bosommy area and are so squeezed in there seems to be less bounce. I dont tell the The bra interventionists, they would disapprove!

Hello new comers! I was just coming on here to moan about how I can't be bothered to exercise but you have inspired me to get off my arse and do something!

Now I just have to finish decluttering the kitchen cupboards.

BuzzardBird · 28/03/2015 10:47

Welcome cherry
I like to wear yoga trousers with a little support in them. There are some good ones available in supermarkets (Asda, who will deliver) or Sports Direct (who also deliver). They come up as far as my sports bra and are made of a breathable lycra that is nice and supportive for stomachs and backs without digging in anywhere (especially surgery scars).

I hope that with gentle excercise you start to improve, I think sometimes (with me) the euphoria you get from excercising helps to cope with the chronic pain that the meds don't touch.

BuzzardBird · 28/03/2015 10:49

Lots of stretching involved in decluttering kitchen cupboards Pete Wink...just don't find last years Easter Eggs and start eating them.

cherrytree63 · 28/03/2015 11:10

Thanks for the very warm welcome! I've done my Davina warm up, tired today as didn't get much sleep so just watching some fitness videos on YouTube ( surely mind motivation helps...Grin) . Going out tonight to see my friend's rock 'n' roll band so will have a dance or two ( and try not to be too upset that I used to dance all night).
I'm drinking so much water since starting exercise , is that common? Even in my fitter days I didn't drink much water, just copious amounts of tea!
And (sorry for wittering on) I'm not usually a self conscious person, but having my OH around the house has made me feel a bit awkward, even though I do my routine in a room with no curtains for the amusement of any passers by Grin and don't give a stuff!

PeteCampbellsRecedingHairline · 28/03/2015 14:32

Is that the voice of experience Buzzard? Grin

No Easter eggs sadly. Just lots of tins of chickpeas, lentils and various beans.

Moodykat · 28/03/2015 16:33

Welcome new tuna grabbers! The weekends are my davina days off. DH is out tonight so I am planning a nice yoga session with candles lit.

Or I might catch up with Revenge and stuff my face with whatever food I can find.

PeteCampbellsRecedingHairline · 28/03/2015 18:05

Urgh. Just lost my temper with DH who sat and watched me do the warm up and fat burner. Why watch me? And then when I say I find an exercise hard, he says "They obviously know what they're doing."

Aaaargh!

BuzzardBird · 28/03/2015 18:33

Grin Pete, second rule of Tuna club;

Do not let the DH watch or make comment, unless it is positive.

Done none today for the above reason, will have the weekend off I think. :)

AnotherGirlsParadise · 28/03/2015 22:07

Bloody hell velma, you really went for it! Fantastic stuff Grin Is it just me, or is the Fat Burner workout even harder than the Ultimate Fat Burner? The lunge bit nearly killed me - I always knew my coordination was shit, just not THAT shit!

BuzzardBird · 28/03/2015 22:21

I have one hand on the mantelpiece Paradise, it helps.

AmazonGrace · 28/03/2015 22:48

I keep popping in and will be back on it possibly Monday, well done to all of you.

Dp has bought me a mat, got to keep going now haven't I Grin

BuzzardBird · 28/03/2015 22:54

Your Dp sounds lovely and supportive Amazon :)

HemanOrSheRa · 29/03/2015 00:43

I rest one hand (lightly, promise!) on a dining chair when I'm doing the lunges Paradise. It makes all the difference to getting the exercise right and feeling it working rather than wobbling all over the place, I think.

I was doing the fat burner today (yesterday Confused) and DP starting trying to have a conversation with me while I was doing the kicking my leg up and across bit. All I could do was shout "Do Not Speak To Me Right Now". He was completely unfazed by the sight of me leaping about in my trackie bottoms and sports bra Hmm.

velmadinkly · 29/03/2015 10:07

No Davina for me today I think. I had a bit of a lie in and when I came downstairs I realised the clocks had changed. My Parents are coming down today to see us (we live 70 miles apart). I will have to have a tidy up, not because they'll judge me, just because crap on the floor and wheelchairs don't go together very well and my Mam is a wheelchair user.

I did my weigh in this morning and I've lost a miniscule 0.2lb, but I'm happy because its in the right direction. I've just eaten a bacon sandwich and a milky decaff coffee so I'm set until lunchtime, which I suspect will be about 3pm due to my parents coming.

Welcome cherry don't worry about the jiggling in your own home. Even though I'm not massively overwight I do have a lovely jiggly belly which I can see wobbling about in the chimney breast mirror when I'm exercising. Wear what you feel comfortable in.

I must say, my DH has knows not to say anything to piss me off about my exercising and what I might look like etc., although when I told him I did the 10 press ups he did say he was proud of me, because he knows I've always really struggled to do them.

Right, I'd better get off and do a bit of tidying up.

AmazonGrace · 29/03/2015 12:27

Buzzard, he is being really supportive which is great. He's having a health kick atm too, he has a little gym set up in his shed but I don't venture in there, might do once I become fitter. Hopefully will be back on it tomorrow!

Cafeconleche · 29/03/2015 14:45

No Davina today - the hour that I lost when the clocks went forward was the hour I had set aside for exercise Wink .... Plus, had friends over last night for dinner and have only just finished clearing up the debris. Back in the saddle tomorrow, I promise. Have a fab Sunday everyone

AmazonGrace · 30/03/2015 06:55

Morning!

Not feeling it this morning, think the hour change has cocked me up! Didn't spring out of bed, might do some legs later, will see.

AmazonGrace · 30/03/2015 06:56

Sorry for the negative post!

Well done to all of you managing sessions this morning Grin

lalalonglegs · 30/03/2015 07:08

Have completed all the sessions on the Davina DVD Star. I'm going to try each session again on its own over the next ten days then start combining them. Does anyone else struggle with the lunges? I'm not sure if I am going down far enough or whether my weight is over my front leg (although, they're bloody hard work so perhaps I am doing them right).

velmadinkly · 30/03/2015 07:34

Well done lala hopefully you mean you have done them individually. How much harder is the advanced abs compared to normal abs?

All done for me this morning with warm up, fat burner, ultimate fat burner, abs and some stretch. I must admit I had the feeling as though I didn't want to do anything because I didn't want to get out of bed, so I told myself I could only do one session, so ended up dojng what I normally do.

DD is going to holiday club for 4 days and I'm going to make an attempt at writing my literature review for my dissertation.

bimandbam · 30/03/2015 07:59

Morning everyone.

Fell off the wagon over the weekend unless climbing up and down stuff at soft play counts? Weather been vile here when I had time to walk. Then this morning dp didn't go in while later so have got dressed without doing anything. And its really windy so probably won't get for a nice walk later.

I love walking. Don't mind a bit of drizzle but ds doesn't like the rain cover on so that stops me when its really rainy. And we all hate the wind. Hoping it dies down for a bit later.

And I have dd off school who also hates wind but she is going to have a go at davina with me.

Well done to everyone else who is keeping at it. Am watching you all for motivation!

lalalonglegs · 30/03/2015 08:04

Yes, velma, individually .Both abs sessions felt bad at the time but only the two fat burners made me ache the next day - maybe because they were first on the programme. What are you concentrating on in your dissertation?

PeaceOfWildThings · 30/03/2015 08:26

Star for all! Saa a nice update on fb that Davina is in Vegas with her DH, renewing their vows! Awwwww.:)

Am just getting up and hoping to fit in a quick workout before giving DCs lifts.

Moodykat · 30/03/2015 09:05

Morning! You are all doing very well, am impressed!

I've not Davina-ed this morning as been up all bloody night coughing. This cold has really knocked me for six!

Hopefully I can get back into the swing soon. Off on holiday on Friday though so think Davina will fall by the wayside then too! Mind you, there is a swimming pool so will try and do some proper swimming whilst away!
