Grab Your Tuna!

stevienickstophat · 18/03/2015 16:23

This is a thread about reclaiming exercise for those of us who never felt it was for us, or who lost our confidence after childbirth or illness or injury, or just lost our way a little bit regarding looking after ourselves.

This thread is about realising that getting up off the sofa and moving about a bit can be enjoyable, can be done in our pyjamas and can be fitted into lives that are too often lived for the benefit of other people.

This is a thread about firming up our wobbly bits, strengthening our bones, making our joints flexible and lifting our moods, so that the rest of our lives are that little bit easier and more enjoyable.

So, grab your tuna, wrestle yourself into your sports bra and watch out for the Little Differences!

Well as predicted I didn't get davina done but I did walk to school and back for dd which is 1.14 miles each way. And I have to do it twice tomorrow as my car is getting mended. So that will be 4.5 miles tomorrow.

I.don't think I will be doing davina tomorrow either lol. Tomorrow I will be mostly aching I reckon.

Still don't feel 100%either so if I wasn't having to walk I bet I wouldn't have done anything.

And I did some energetic housework today too.

do I look thinner yet?

stevienickstophat · 23/03/2015 18:52

Hello all!

Rest day for me today. Had a full on day at work and have only just sat down, my throat is sore from this lingering cold so I'm going to listen to my body and have a rest and some ice-cream a nice bath.

Little Difference - I put a dress on today and only realised later that I'd put it on without having to undo the zip! Grin

Bim, you certainly do Smile

Evening all
I still not started but I am several steps closer. I have downloaded the dvd onto my ipad and I watched several of the routines last night. I've also realised I can start without a sports bra and that's just an obstacle I'm putting in the way.
I've got rather an odd week this week but hopefully I might find time to do at least one towards the end of the week and then I should have more time at the weekend.

I thought the first one looked pretty doable. I need to pair up ones you all talk about with the ones I've seen.

I did spend all yesterday afternoon gardening so I feel I achieved something. Onwards and upwards!

stevienickstophat · 23/03/2015 18:56

Pants - I don't always wear a sports bra.

It's seven minutes...what have you go to lose?

Gardening's great exercise thought, isn't it?

OP posts:
Pantsalive · 23/03/2015 19:01

Yes, only 7 minutes. I'm sure that's only a couple of soduko Smile

It's our first garden so it was very exciting to get out there having ignored it for the last few months.

stevienickstophat · 23/03/2015 19:20

Good god, a couple of sudoku?

That wouldn't take me seven minutes, trust me. It'd take me about a month Blush

Must mention that the sports bras from Primark and Asda are perfectly fine and Sainsburys is double up your nectar points this week and they have them too.

However I still haven't found my trainers...which are lightweight running ones btw, when I find them.

Pantsalive · 23/03/2015 20:19

Stevie that would be ipad easy soduko so nothing impressive just how I seem to lose a lot of time at the moment when I could be doing something far more constructive or actually going to bed at a sensible hour.

Buzzard sadly I'm not near a Primark and I've looked in Sainsbury and Asda and they don't have my size. I'm going to see if the one I like in Asda comes back in stock and I can order one in.

However I'm not going to let the lack of decent support hold up the mission.

AmazonGrace · 24/03/2015 07:08

Good morning!

Have to mention, if it wasn't for this thread I wouldn't have done my workout this morning. It's good to be able to share and it's all done in a non 'braggy' way.

Warm up and tone & burn done, was going to do two but have UTI and feeling slightly shitty. Onwards and upwards.

Moodykat · 24/03/2015 07:20

Good morning to you all!

Got up and did warm up and fat burner. Am really not 100% better and fat burner had me completely out of puff today! Even more than usual!

But I'm feeling good that I've done it!

velmadinkly · 24/03/2015 08:37

I got up at my usual time and DH had made himself all comfortable downstairs writing an answer for an OU assignment, so I had to shoo him out of the way.

Due to the time taken for DH to sort out his stuff, it only left me with enough time to do warm up, Fitness Test thingy, Tone and burn and some stretch.

I'm pleased to say that I'm getting lower with my press ups and I can do about 6 or 7 in the 1 minute slot of the fitness test. When I first started the DVD I was absolutely shite at press ups and I could only do about 2!

Amazon I think you have hit the nail on the head, it isn't at all braggy on this thread and we cheer along to the fact that somebody can now do a proper lunge or the fact that they can now reach their toes in the stretch section, rather than competing on the fact of how many pull can be done or sit ups etc. Oh, and get yourself sorted re the UTI, they can turn quite nasty in a short period of time.

Moody yes, I'm too struggling a bit with the breathing. I don't feel grotty anymore with the cold, but my nose is still bunged up, I'm really puffing and blowing after the shortest amount of exercise.

bimandbam · 24/03/2015 09:06

Morning everyone

Have done a nice 2.2 mile walk this morning to get dd to school. I am very unfit. A few years ago I would have done that without even thinking about it. Was very puffy on way back but tried to keep a nice even pace going to be just out of breath. Got a bad chest thanks to a nasty virus we have all had so that wasn't too difficult lol.

The dog has crashed out on the sofa now. Think she is as unfit as me bless her. And ds (15 months) is pulling his socks off and trying to push them under the dvd cabinet. I am drinking coffee and contemplating housework.

Got another 2.2 miles to do to pick dd up. Am glad of this thread to motivate me a bit though.

Have worked out if I can walk 2.5 miles roughly a day and reduce calories by 250ish I will be creating a 500 cal deficit a day which is worth 1lb a week loss. Plus exercising should tone me up a bit. So that will be roughly a stone off by middle of June when we go away.

Its got to be doable.

Moodykat · 24/03/2015 09:37

velma well done you! 6 or 7 press-ups is brilliant! I've not tried the fitness test again since doing about 3 sections of it and giving up!

When I am well I must remember to do it every week so I can see the differences!

We are all incredibly brilliant at this you know. I'm proud of us.

PeteCampbellsRecedingHairline · 24/03/2015 10:11

Morning everyone. I've had a few days off but back on it today. Did warm up, fat burner and abs. Then did my C25k jog.

What's this fitness challenge then?

AmazonGrace · 24/03/2015 10:52

Well done everyone, we are bloody brilliant aren't we. Big pat on backs to everyone giving this a go.

Velma, I'm on top of the UTI, suffered with them for years, have my antibiotics and on top of it, it's not going to beat me, bloody stuck two fingers up to it and cracking on.

The little differences make a big difference don't they, even how you feel mentally. This thread just keeps on giving.

Sorry, gone all soppy.

BuzzardBird · 24/03/2015 10:58

Can I just say that I am mighty impressed by those of you that are ill manage more than warm up.

I only managed warm up, fat burner and stretch today as I am starting a new job and I need to stop having a crisis of confidence and get on with it.

Well done you lot, you are an inspiration. Thanks

Moodykat · 24/03/2015 13:38

None of my yoga "crew" at work were feeling particularly well today so we did video in lunch break today. Am now feeling all chilled and totally not ready for a hectic afternoon at work! Would recommend it for an evening though, especially if you can light some candles and have a proper zone out moment!

stevienickstophat · 24/03/2015 14:36

Well done everyone. So impressed by those who are cracking on despite feeling a bit off. Sometimes you just have to face it down, don't you?

The idea of walking and cutting down calories sounds very sensible and doable...

Press-ups are my absolute nemesis. I have zilch strength in my arms. BUT I managed one proper one on Saturday, so I was well chuffedSmile

Back on it tonight. Aiming for warm up plus two others.

OP posts:
PeaceOfWildThings · 24/03/2015 15:18

Press ups are my worst ones too. I can do about 7 shallow ones now, but still cannot manage the proper full elbow bend. I'd really like to know how to do them.

I managed day 2 of the 5 day series I'm following. I've got them on my phone, which is just as well because the wifi to the TV cut out after 10 minutes. Also managed a mile run. Took me just over 13 minutes....

So I have a confession to make. That mile I ran a couple of weeks ago, it turns out it wasn't a mike. I haven't checked, but it's probably half a mile! Blush

HemanOrSheRa · 24/03/2015 18:07

Hello! I've fallen off the exercise wagon this last week. It was my birthday last week and TOTM too so I was pretty busy and felt pretty crap. Anyway, I'm back to it today. Just done the warm up, fat burner and tone and burn.

Usually at this point after not exercising for a week the novelty would have worn off and I would have thought 'I'm rubbish at this exercise thing, can't stick to it blah, blah blah'. But not this time! I really enjoyed getting back to it! Yay!

stevienickstophat · 24/03/2015 18:12

Great news, Heman!

AmazonGrace · 24/03/2015 18:49

I think I'm going to have to face the press ups soon, I'm tending to stick to the same two sessions.

Guess what though, Dp has told me that my bottom is slightly more rounded at the top, he wouldn't bullshit either, tbh it does feel firmer, result!

stevienickstophat · 24/03/2015 19:10

Woohoo!
