Grab Your Tuna!

stevienickstophat · 18/03/2015 16:23

This is a thread about reclaiming exercise for those of us who never felt it was for us, or who lost our confidence after childbirth or illness or injury, or just lost our way a little bit regarding looking after ourselves.

This thread is about realising that getting up off the sofa and moving about a bit can be enjoyable, can be done in our pyjamas and can be fitted into lives that are too often lived for the benefit of other people.

This is a thread about firming up our wobbly bits, strengthening our bones, making our joints flexible and lifting our moods, so that the rest of our lives are that little bit easier and more enjoyable.

So, grab your tuna, wrestle yourself into your sports bra and watch out for the Little Differences!

Well done everyone! Keep it up!

Small differences?

I'm sure I am now wider side to side compared to ffront to back! Hurrah, as this is a huge improvement for me. Not only that but my tummy is a bit smaller I think and my bum seems to stick out a little bit more, so I stick out more at the back than the front. Today, anyway. Things are going in the right direction, despite some difficult setbacks.

CurrerBell · 17/04/2015 12:42

Ah, thanks for the advice re the stomach muscles - I will look on YouTube for special exercises. I haven't attempted the Davina abs ones yet, as we tend to stick to the cardio / fat burner ones.

velmadinkly · 17/04/2015 13:45

For some strange reason my post from this morning hasn't posted Confused

Anyway, I did warm up, fitness challenge, ultimate fat burner, abs and some stretch this morning all done and dusted by 6.55am.

I think my back fat is reducing, i'm not totally sure, but I'll continue with the exercising and if I still have back fat come mid July when I go away, then so be it, but at least I will know that I tried my best to get rid of it.

I don't know if it's an allowed MN thing, but I'm going to high five peace because she is now wider than her depth! Grin

currer yes, go on youtube to see stomach exercise for people with rectus thingamebob (split in the stomach muscles). You don't want to do stomach exercises that are going to exacerbate it and make you look more rounded rather than flat.

PeaceOfWildThings · 17/04/2015 19:33

Ah, I had the split tummy muscle thingy too, and the lovely hospital physio dept ran classes that mums could go back to and join in with for up to 2 years after giving birth. (I never had and child free time, nor the energy for it back then...nor access to a car, come to think of it.) You might find the maternity unit or phyaio department at the hospital you where you gave birth can help with exercise advice. Worth a phone call. You might even be able to self refer for some physio.

Hangs head in shame!

I'm back, been gone for a few weeks!

Just done warm up, legs, tone and sculpt and I plan on sticking around.

I blame the hour shifting, this buggered me up ( I know I know Grin) but I'm determined to stick with it again.

Good to see some familiar names still hanging in there in this last page.

AmazonGrace · 18/04/2015 18:31
  • ON this last page!
KittyMcAllister · 19/04/2015 00:38

Hi can I join? Been doing the DVD about a week now & starting to get addicted! Really need to both tone and lose some flab. Still got a post c-section tummy and DC2 is 3.5 years old..,! Did the 5:2 last year and lost loads but a lot has crept back Blush

What combos are people finding best? I've only done fat burner, tone & burn and abs so far. Also try to go running a few times a week too.

velmadinkly · 19/04/2015 09:59

Hi all, I've not done anything Saturday, but I'm hoping to either go for a swim or ling walk today. I think my period is due, I could literally eat my own arm off.

I went out last night to a thai restaurant, so my WI was flawed this morning. I weighed in at 10st 12lb, which would mean I have put on a pound or two over the week and even from yesterday (I did a sneaky peak). I will just keep on with WW and the exercise. I definately do think my body shape is changing and that is what is important to me.

Good work everyone, lets all have another good week with some thoughtful movement/exercise

AmazonGrace · 19/04/2015 10:52

Warm up, ultimate legs, tone & sculpt done!

Kitty, I've focused on the legs as that's the area I want toning most, upper arms need attention too so I've started on the tone & sculpt. It's personal to you and the areas you want to focus on I suppose. I will start on other sessions though as I'd like lovely abs (dreams) so I'm hopefully going to be doing various sessions daily, mixing them up to hopefully get toned all over. Legs and bottom though are my most problematic areas so I'll be squatting the life out of them Grin

AmazonGrace · 19/04/2015 10:54

Velma, I must be on one long period as I feel like that most of the time Grin I've been good this morning though, wolfed down a banana in between workouts. It's the future.

gamerchick · 19/04/2015 11:57

Can I ask how people get to grips with ultimate legs? Everything else is fine but the legs ones practically cripple me for days. Would the stretch afterwards help do you think? Anyone.

gamerchick · 19/04/2015 11:59

Have to say though I'm royally amused at dropping a whole dress size without losing weight.. Just goes to show that scales are rubbish Grin

AmazonGrace · 19/04/2015 13:01

Gamerchick, when I first started with the legs it killed me, up until my ten day rest I did them more or less daily so I'd just say keep at it and you will get stronger. I did legs yesterday and today and I'm not feeling sore so must have gained some strength there. Are you wearing good trainers?

gamerchick · 19/04/2015 13:46

Yes I'm wearing good trainers. Thank you I think I'll concentrate on legs with tone and stretch and leave the fat burners till my workmates don't notice me trying to climb the stairs and ask if I'm alright..Lots of stairs in my building.

KittyMcAllister · 19/04/2015 15:50

I'm most interested in sorting out the abs for now - legs can wait!

AmazonGrace · 20/04/2015 07:11

Morning!

Warm up and ultimate legs done! Banana eaten with a nice glass of water. I will get legs fit for a festival!

Happy Monday!

AmazonGrace · 20/04/2015 07:12

Think I'll do tone & sculpt tonight, school run madness starts again so need to shower.

velmadinkly · 20/04/2015 09:30

Again, my bloody post has not appeared!! So, here it is again.....

I ended up doing no exercise yesterday, so that was none over the weekend at all. Blush

However, this morning I did, warm up, UF Burner, F Burner, Tone and Burn and some stretch.

What was weird is that I wore my trainers this morning because I did something to my foot yesterday that made my left ankle/side of the foot a bit painful and it did feel really strange exercising in trainers. Hopefully, my foot will be back to normal tomorrow.

I also wanted to say, that I am now doing the proper thrust bits in the step thrusts in UFB. I have noticed it does have a greater effect on my heart rate. I have also noticed that if I do F Burner and then UF Burner, my heart rate doesn't get as high. I don't wear a monitor, but I just don't get out of puff as much, that is why I've done it the other way round.

I'm still starving all the time! I had my breakfast an hour ago and I could eat my own arm again. My breakfast was 50g of no added sugar museli (it doesn't even have sweetners or anything) with 140ml skimmed milk with some blueberries, raspberries and strawberries. I also had a smoothie made of 0% actimel, kale, spinach, raspberries and strawberries, then a cup of tea. Only 2.5 hours until lunch!!! Grin

Well done amazon. I don't really exercise on an evening, I normally don't like it and I generally don't have time, that is why I get up early (6am) to get it done very first thing.

Moodykat · 20/04/2015 09:41

I've not done any over the weekend and (typically) the children slept in this morning so I took advantage and stayed in bed instead of jumping up to Davina!

Hey-ho. Yoga at lunch today and probably a bike ride after work.

BuzzardBird · 20/04/2015 10:09

Morning everyone! Warm up, FB, T&S and stretch done. No time over weekend so will try and make up for it in the week.

lalalonglegs · 20/04/2015 10:58

Warm up, UFB and Abs. I hadn't noticed any dramatic change in shape but I found a pair of trousers I thought I had thrown out as they had clearly shrunk in the wash Wink. I tried them on and, while still snug, they are definitely wesrable now. Yay gor small changes.

PeaceOfWildThings · 20/04/2015 12:33

Nothing yesterday as I hadn't slept much and wasn't up to it.

Warm up, a slow legs workout (mainly squats) quick core workout (weights and pilates, quick full body cardio and stretches to finish. Does it still count if I'm now back in bed? Blush Am still feeling like making up for lost sleep. I did weigh in today and am 3 pounds down. Smile Slower weight loss overall than I'd hoped, but it's something.

velmadinkly · 21/04/2015 09:18

This morning I did:

Warm up, fitness challenge x 2, abs and some stretch.

I hope my TOTM appears soon because I ate like no tomorrow yesterday I was so hungry. From knowing this i've got a plan of action today in that I had my porridge straight after exercising rather than waiting until I got into work. I have also made a small smoothie to have mid morning. I've got a salad with cottage cheese and wholemeal bread for lunch and I'm having chilli and whole meal rice for tea.

Hopefully that will suffice and I won't eat my arm off tonight.

KittyMcAllister · 21/04/2015 18:25

Feeling virtuous today! After a run on Sunday I got up early this morning and did UFB, Fitness challenge & tone & sculpt. I NEVER exercise first thing so it's a bit of a revelation.

AmazonGrace · 21/04/2015 18:42

Missed this morning but knew I had the house to myself for an hour this evening. Completed warm up, legs, tone & sculpt! I actually managed proper press ups during Tone & Sculpt tonight and not some half arsed attempt, felt good but my arms are feeling it, in a good way. Phew! Now time for a quick shower.
