Yes, me too. Mainly because she looked like she'd enjoyed it so much. Very different taking part for enjoyment than for competition. After what she'd said about just being happy to be able to run after injury it was very moving.

orangeflutie · 26/04/2015 18:09

I ran 6 miles this morning and really enjoyed it. The first run I've properly enjoyed for ages and which made me realise why I run.
Came home in a really good mood.

I then sat and watched VLM for ages. It was lovely to see Paula run and I felt quite emotional. The whole race I always find exciting and it gives me goosebumps. Hard to believe it's already a year since I ran it. I said I probably wouldn't do it again but it's always so inspiring...Smile

Currently seriously considering entering Brighton Marathon and maybe some summer 10ks. Think I need to do something!

Elsasalterego · 26/04/2015 22:19

I love London marathon day.... Some people are so inspiring. I'd love to think I'll be running in my 80s!

I had to stay in tonight as DH was out so it had to do my run on my treadmill... Does it count towards the total? I did 5k. Otherwise I plan another outside tomorrow whilst the kids are at school!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 27/04/2015 00:52

The oldest marathon runner (Iva Barr) is local to me. I've run in a couple of events with her and she is amazing Smile One of our parkrunners, who is in his 70's was running today as well - it was his 150th marathon Shock

I know what you mean flutie I have itchy feet as well. Didn't run today because I had work to do, an OU assignment to write and went out for a long walk with DH, who I have hardly seen all week instead. So have signed up for a 10K next week and by happy coincidence I will see cinners and mini-greyhound Grin.

Treadmill miles count Elsa Smile

Please can someone keep an eye on the number of posts and start a new thread at some point tomorrow?

Adding 8 from me to make 2274.47 from the last total.

Elsa Treadmill miles totally count- in fact they shd probably command a premium due to the soul destroying tedium of them (my 8 this morning were also treadmill). What I tend to do is just give it a little incline (0.5-1%) as apparently this eliminates the "momentum effect" whereby the belt runs you a bit making it equivalent to running slightly downhill, and it also balances the load on your leg muscles.

Didn't get much marathon footage here unfortunately, but glad Paula had a good run. Never quite forgiven the press and British public for turning on her after her Athens shocker. Anglaise- in answer to your question re whether I have time to do a sub 3:50 marathon between now and August to get a NFA place, almost certainly not, so will have to wait another year. I'll enter the international ballot anyway though. My last London marathon was such a great day- not so much for me, more that it made me proud to be from London because the crowd are so amazing.

karatekimmi · 27/04/2015 06:29

I had a lovely day in London, I got to see Paula and most of my club runners. My pre pregnancy running partner did fabulous as I knew she would, smiling the whole way round!!

We had a runner with a club place deferred this year cinamon as far as I know! The pregnancy is going well, it's taking it out of me a bit now running and I'm sure it won't be long till I have to give it up :-( I'm trying to get to Hanley parkrun on the 13th of June as its en route to liverpool half marathon my DH is doing.

karatekimmi · 27/04/2015 06:32

Oh and I dutifully waited for my 6 week check up, but I could have ran earlier -and wish I would have I was chomping at the bit!!-- I restarted the 025k plan, but gave up after about 5 mins and ran the rest of the time. You'll know if you're ready, just take it steady!!

AggressiveBunting · 27/04/2015 07:50

re exercising post DC, with DC1 I went a bit crazy and was doing bootcamp at 6wks pp, but now looking back I think I had undiagnosed PND as the whole first year was just a fog- the exercise and being back in my jeans at 5 weeks was me being in massive denial about motherhood. With DC2, I was mentally much better but didnt do much till she was almost 1 as went back to work after 13 wks and between that and her not sleeping for a year, I didnt have the energy. Maybe try to find a happy medium between those Grin. Main thing is, just trust how you feel.

actiongirl1978 · 27/04/2015 08:05

Hi everyone,

So nice to see the pictures of Paula with her children in this morning's newspapers. I didn't see any of the VLM but I always love watching it and I also get a bit teary!

Well, I did my HM despite my knee and frankly the pain was only second to childbirth! My bad knee started hurting at 5 miles to the extent I had to take paracetemol with no water while running (quite a trick I can tell you!) and then my other knee started hurting at 8 miles.

So from 8 miles in, I literally gritted my teeth and put one foot in front of the other. However I didn't stop, not even once (immodium is a great thing!) and I made it round in 2.39 which is way slower than I had planned before I got my injury, but I suppose faster than if I hadn't done it at all! I had wanted close to 2.10 but I knew that if I did my 10.30 pace, I wouldn't make it around Sad

When I got to the end, I actually couldn't walk and pretty much collapsed against a barrier.

So all in all, pleased I did it, but desperate for my legs to feel the way they did before my injury so I can do a HM properly.

I did wonder if my other knee started hurting because my injured knee wasn't back to full strength so I was relying on the other one more?

Would I be mad to try and run a full marathon next year?

actiongirl1978 · 27/04/2015 08:06

Oh and 13.1!!!!

2287.5

PoppyShakespeare · 27/04/2015 08:21

well done action! Flowers

LastGleaming · 27/04/2015 09:28

Sounds like it re the knees actiongirl. I have problems with my left hip/groin area and notice when it starts hurting the band on the other side starts shortly after. Think it's a case of instinctively taking the pressure off the left but more onto the right to compensate. Hope your knees both recover soon and massive well done!!

Never got to watch the vlm yesterday as my tv isn't hooked up yet after moving.

holmessweetholmes · 27/04/2015 09:53

Hi everyone - I keep finding this thread, posting on it a couple of times and then forgetting about it for ages! Am currently trying to get on track for my 7th June trail HM, having had a delayed start to my training when my ds had an accident and broke his leg and collarbone!

Am currently doing 3 runs a week - one hills or intervals, one 5k Parkrun and one slooow one where I increase the distance each week. Does that sound sensible?

Will add my Parkrun 5k to the thread mileage in a minute... Off to catch up on some of your posts now to inspire me Smile.

PoppyShakespeare · 27/04/2015 12:34

yessssss am definitely feeling quite a bit better :)

2287.5 + 4 = 2291.5

familygermsareok · 27/04/2015 12:44

Well done Actiongirl , it takes real grit and determination to finish a hm with an injury and in a lot of pain Flowers Hope your knees feel better soon.

Hi holmes hope your DS is all better now. That sounds like a fine training plan to me if you are increasing distance enough to be comfortable doing hm. Are you doing trails too if it is a trail hm?

9.65 this morning, mostly trail with some cross country through bogs and tussocky stuff. I am happy as have managed to join up two of my routes. I have been able to see one of them from the hills on the other and wanted to join them up for ages but couldn't work out how to. There isn't a proper track but I now know how to do it ( as long as I don't mind getting wet feet Grin ) .

2287.5 + 3.1 from holmes + 9.65 from me = 2300.25

familygermsareok · 27/04/2015 12:45

Oops x post, plus poppys 4 is 2304.25

Glad you are feeling better poppy Smile

PoppyShakespeare · 27/04/2015 12:53
Smile

together we've run in one month what takes me two years to do by myself!

Lagoonablue · 27/04/2015 13:04

2304.5 and 3 miles from me is 2307.5

Chose a new route today but not really long enough so will have to add a bit more on. I am disappointed in not being able to increase my distance easily but then forget have only been running since January! And never ran before that, so keepi g with the 5k for now is probably ok isn't it?

emummy · 27/04/2015 13:24

Well done Actiongirl, that was a tough run!
Lagoonablue you're doing really well, 5k is definitely ok. You will be able to increase it gradually in time. Can be scary, I was really worried about running more than 5! Am now planning my first 12 mile run in the next week or so!

5 from me, progression run, pace ok
2312.5

holmessweetholmes · 27/04/2015 15:08

Thanks Familygermsareok! Yes, I do lots of off - road running, as I live in a pretty rural and very hilly, woody, rocky place (southern Lake District ).

Ideally I wouldn't be increasing the distance as rapidly as I am (by 2k per week), but as I say, my schedule was somewhat disrupted by ds! His cast comes off on Weds - thanks for asking after him!

MrsStevenPatrickMorrissey · 27/04/2015 15:09

Hi all, sorry im not great with keeping up with everyone posts, lovely to read about doing lots of runs...i only got to see the highlights from the London Marathon but I was in tears too, it was so emotional seeing Paula coming over the finish line and hearing some of the stories behind why some people were running it.

Well I ended up doing an unexpected 5k race yesterday Shock I was chatted into it on Friday evening when I was out with the running group some of the ladies were doing it. And I'm really proud to say I did it in 27:58 Grin all I was hoping for was to finish it still breathing and not be fire engine red so I was delighted to see the time when I came in...it has me hooked now!

It took me a while to figure out the numbers at the bottom of people's posts Blush so can I add 3 miles from this morning....did a very slow run just to stretch the legs in the lovely sunshine/rain/hailstones & snow Confused as I won't make it out with the running group tonight, I'm another threadmil runner too when I'm short on time.

Thanks for the book recommendations and for the exercise plans too by the way Smile

holmessweetholmes · 27/04/2015 15:10

Meant to say - well done Actiongirl! What determination! I need to find some of that...

MrsStevenPatrickMorrissey · 27/04/2015 15:17

Same here, meant to say well done actiongirl I'm in awe, you have great willpower to keep going when in pain, and your time was excellent Flowers

actiongirl1978 · 27/04/2015 15:27
