I forgot to say earlier to whoever it was that asked about running with their kids. Sorry I scanned back but couldn't find the post again to see who it was.

My local Parkrun (Highbury Fields) have recently started doing a kids one, so encouraged by our school's sports teacher, I have taken them a few times. It's just 2k so a good distance for kids to do. My 10yr old loves it and is already trying to beat her pb. And even my 5 yr old has done it a couple of times, I run with her and we are inevitably either last or second to last, but the big cheer she gets when she finishes are brilliant.

Lagoonablue · 25/04/2015 19:24

A very slow 3 miles from me.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 25/04/2015 20:03

alley you have reminded me that someone mentioned running skirts the other day as well and I can't remember who it was. I was going to say that I have a skirt from runningskirts.com, bought in the US but they do deliver to the UK as well. It has built in pants, but they feel a bit small/skirt a bit short for my liking, so I wear cycling shorts underneath or did until DS1 needed something to wear under his rugby shorts because he'd forgotten his skins and borrowed them and hasn't given them back. I then invested in a couple of sports skirts (I think from the tennis section of the US equivalent of Sports Direct) that had built in shorts, but they kept riding up and chafed my legs badly, so I wear cycling shorts under them as well needless to say have not worn either all winter.

Also re pita when sitting it may be worth considering a kneeling chair, something like this www.wayfair.co.uk/Kneeling-Chair-N1112-TKK1075.html

I've used them for years and find them helpful

cinnamongreyhound · 25/04/2015 21:27

Well done everyone getting out running, horrid morning today but lovely after that.

Dh is desperate for me to get out for a run! I feel very well in myself but I will need a new sports bra and I'm worried about going out and ds3 screaming the whole time Sad also don't want to go to early and cause long term problems. Had a lovely walk with the dogs and ds3 in his sling today and felt good.

How's your pregnancy going karatekimmi? Well done on your improved time.

5madthings · 25/04/2015 22:00

No running from me as my toe got all infected after the half, it was truly hideous and hurt like hell. Much better now antibiotics have kicked in but the tie nail has come off and it's very tender. Wondering if I should cover it with something to run? I really need a run as life a bit stressful, have pulled ds2 out of school as they are failing him completely and he is having a general on Tuesday so they can do an endoscopy and colonoscopy to see if he has chrohns. I know it will be fine but my heart is breaking for him, plus he is in pain with his joints and his knee keeps giving way making him fall over. Fingers crossed the investigations mean we know what is going on and we can start treatment.

cinnamon I would think walking is fine but you probably want to wait til your six week check before running? But you know how you feel and if you feel up to it you could always feed baby and go for a really short run? He should be fine for half an hour?

cinnamongreyhound · 25/04/2015 22:11

Really hope all goes well for your ds Tuesday 5madthings! I lost a big toe nail and bought on of those stretchy toe cover things that have jelly type stuff inside, the protected it until it hardened off. Evenings will be tricky as at the moment he's cluster feeding and in the morning he doesn't wake at a reliable time plus I'm back to work Wednesday and I don't think I can cope with any less sleep! Perhaps a gentle try next Sunday morning when I've bought a bigger sports bra!

familygermsareok · 25/04/2015 22:30

Well done emummy, glad you enjoyed it and your ankle held up fine. And well done to your DC too, even if they weren't happy with their times it is still a great experience and what a fantastic way to start a weekend.

My goodness cinnamon, how do you feel about running already? I don't have any experience of running shortly after birth as mine were toddlers when I started but I think you should listen to your body and be kind to it, although only you know how you feel. Walking sounds good to me.

That must be very stressful 5madthings, I hope you get some answers.

Re running books, I liked Running Beyond Limits by Andrew Murray ( no, not that one, this one is a GP in Edinburgh who ran from Scotland to the Sahara and has done various ultras too ) and Born to Run by Christopher Macdougall. Neither author would win a prize for great prose and I did find Christopher Mac a bit irritating at times but the stories are really good and I thoroughly enjoyed both books.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 25/04/2015 23:08

Missed you post on the last page emummy - well done Smile. Nothing like a piper to lift the spirits Smile

LastGleaming · 25/04/2015 23:47

Well done emummy, glad the ankle held up for you.

I would take it easy myself cinnamon and stick to walking although only you know your own body. I think relaxin is still present in the body after birth for a while which would be my thinking of not doing too much too soon. I have dodgy enough joints though hence why I'd take it slow.

That sounds like a klaxon thread 5madthings!. Hope everything goes well for your ds.

Has anyone here had the steroid injection for a mortons neuroma (some sort of nerve thing between the toes) in their foot? I've to go for one and just wondering if it worked?

5 to add. Actually it's a bit more as I forgot to resume my garmin after crossing a road but I'll go for the 5. Is that 1226 then adding on lagoon's three too?

HalleLouja · 26/04/2015 08:19

5mad your poor poor DS. I hope he is better soon. Plus infected toe doesn't sound fun for you either.

Cinnammon if I was you I would go for some nice walks. There is no rush.

Am going for a run later. I was going to take the DCs down to VLM but maybe next year.

Whowouldfardelsbear · 26/04/2015 08:20

I think so lastgleaming

A 3.67 from me. I was aiming for further but went at it too fast and it was really muggy so I bowed out. Got my first sub 30 min 5k though so pleased with that 1229.67

actiongirl1978 · 26/04/2015 09:00

Oh madthings that's awful about your son, I hope he is ok and super brave for his tests. Ihope you manage to hold up ok too, seeing your child in any kind of discomfort or pain is awful.

cinnamon I tried running at about 4 weeks and always regretted it as my stomach muscles seemed to harden before they came back together properly. If you are doing enough core exercises then they might be ok but I'd caution for a few more weeks - but like everyone else has said, only you know how you feel! How about a feeding bra under a sports bra that way you can keep the leaks to a minimum?!

ohoneohtwo I'm running in southampton and it starts in an hour! I'm here on my own, kids coming down later with dh and dps. So sitting inside the local shopping centre trying to keep warm. I know I'll be fine if my knee holds up!

I've been to the loo three times, taken two immodium and I have emergency painkillers in my pocket!

cinnamongreyhound · 26/04/2015 09:01

One of the guys who had our club place for the vmlm is sitting at home injured. Feel so bad for him as you can't defer for injury with a club place Sad

cinnamongreyhound · 26/04/2015 09:04

Thanks all for your thoughts! I am ok at the moment and I know babies change all the time so he may be more settled before I decide to go out. It's not so much the running at the moment but the people I'm missing! When you regularly meet someone for a run but not for something else you just don't see them Sad
I can't even get my sports bra on actiongirl1978 so definitely wouldn't fit another underneath Wink definitely need to go up a couple of cup sizes!

EdithDickie · 26/04/2015 09:07

Morning all,

Hope your ds is ok 5madthings, poor love. Sad I hope some answers help with managing it.

Really puts things into perspective as I have been sulking about being injured. Did 4.5 miles on Thursday and had to then walk back to the car thanks to horrendous blister on the arch of my foot. My 24 hour thing is 2 weeks away so am benched to try to heal up. I figure an intact foot is more important than any last minute fitness.

Take care all.

Whowouldfardelsbear · 26/04/2015 09:09

Sorry madthings I missed your post - hope your son gets some answer soon.

good luck in the Southampton run actiongirl!

stilllearnin · 26/04/2015 09:41

5madthings I'm thinking of you. I took my ds out of school for 2 years as he was ill and rapidly going downhill. In case you are worrying about school, just from our experience, it was the best decision. It was so much easier to concentrate on getting him well. He is back at school now. He is really happy and doing so well - catching up on the Maths he ignored Grin it does take its toll though so look after yourself.

5.4 miles from me today. Really enjoyed it and sprinted home Shock

Runrunrun1 · 26/04/2015 12:06

Hello everyone! 3.1 from me this morning, but it was a bit weird. I tried the 'stepping stone' podcast from c25k+, and really didn't get on with it. It starts off running at 150bpm, then 155 then 160. The first 2 were too slow and I kept having to adjust my stride to keep the right pace - I didn't like it and it felt really odd running slower than I naturally would. Might try the other podcasts in that series (one for stamina and one for speed) and see how I get on. Otherwise will try striking out on my own!

5madthings hope all goes well, I can totally empathize with having an poorly DS, although at least we have a diagnosis, which does help.

Thinking of everyone racing today!

2238.17

stilllearnin · 26/04/2015 14:49

RRR I use those podcasts. I did use to use the slower pace for taking notice of my firm. But yes, seeing as it is couch to 5k, you wont get 5k done in the time at that pace unless you take really long strides. The stamina podcast is similar with a longer middle section. I quite like it sometimes but I go faster than the set pace at the beginning.

stilllearnin · 26/04/2015 14:51

Of my form, not firm! I corrected that twice too!!

lastqueenofscotland · 26/04/2015 15:45

3.7 from me thought it was further oh well!

Did anyone else get a bit teary watching Paula finish the marathon today

Anglaise1 · 26/04/2015 16:05

Congrats on your Balmoral run emummy can't believe there is still hail at the end of April!
Thanks for all the advice on the PITA problem - I think I'll try and get a proper diagnosis. Ran 11.2 miles this morning, a good 40 mins at 12.5kph without any real problem so it isn't that serious, it is just sitting that is painful and I don't do too much of that!
5madthings Good luck with your DS for Tuesday.
Lastqueen yes, I watched some of the marathon and got quite teary when Paula crossed the link too - what an amazing event the London Marathon is, so much support from the crowd. I was watching with DS (age 8) who asked why are there so many lazy runners in wheelchairs doing the race Shock.
Will definitely try and enter for 2016.
2249.37

HalleLouja · 26/04/2015 17:18

I did 6 miles this morning with a club buddy makes 2255.37.

I think Paula wanted to go down the finish with the other club athletes and not the special lane but had no choice. It made me a little bit teary....

PoppyShakespeare · 26/04/2015 17:23

watched the marathon with so many tears rolling down my face, then pulled self together and had a little run (run walk actually but under my arbitrary 12 minute mile cut off)

2255.37 + 2 = 2257.37
