Ankle sounding good emummy, here's hoping it continues to improve.

I quite like hills Blush. As long as they're not too long! I like the change of pace, and yes, I especially like the downhill reward. Running into a headwind is no fun at all though, I feel for all you fen and coastal runners.

4.85 this morning, legs still a bit stiff so more of a shuffle than a shimmy, but I got there.

Glad you like your new shoes neeko Smile

Hi everyone,

Anglaise well done on your time, so sorry to hear about the GI, would taking some immodium help? It would stave it off afterwards until your body has settled down? I know you don't get the issue during the race, but if you take one at the start it will be in full force when you finish.

emummy be careful with your ankle, the problem I am discovering with injuries is doing too much just as you think you are getting better, then hurting things again!

How is everyone feeling about running now we are fully into the spring? In the south it is gorgeous today, though I ran first thing and it was just thick mist for the whole run! I am so looking forward to feeling the sun on my back.

My knee is still sore, though I saw the physio last night, had some more ultrasound and I am taped in about three places, so when I tried a run this morning it felt loads better. If I twist or catch it at the wrong angle though, it really hurts. Physio thinks it is two things, the tracking of my patella and also a pulled tendon on the inside of my knee where it attaches to my adductors. So I have a load of exercises to do. She gave me the best massage of my life too - I could get addicted to sports physio massage!

So I am proudly adding 4 miles. I have decided to do my HM on the 26th and going to get well and truly taped up by the physio beforehand. I don't think my time will be any good, I would just like to run it after all the training I have done.

This month's Outdoor Fitness magazine (issue 10) has an article on suggestions to deal with GI problems while racing, for anyone who struggles in that area!

Anglaise1 · 14/04/2015 16:07

Thanks emummy do you know if it is available digitally? I've tried everything for GI problems and nothing works. Action I tried something (not Imodium but similar) and it didn't work, in fact I threw up which is something new, but that might be due to the Isotonic drink I had after the race.

Neeko · 14/04/2015 17:21

Anglaise. Have you tried aloe Vera juice from the health food store? My aunt took a small glass of that every day first thing and she said it really helped keep her issues under control I believe it is an acquired taste though!

Sorry to go on about the new shoes but I haven't had a single niggle from my hip today. I suspect my old trainers have been making my hip weakness worse. Contemplating buying the new ones in every style and wearing them all the time! Grin

suzannecanthecan · 14/04/2015 17:27

thats great Neeko :)
what shoes did you get?

Neeko · 14/04/2015 17:29

Brooks Ravenna 6. The garishly multi coloured ones. I love them Grin

phlebasconsidered · 14/04/2015 18:19

A very hard 2.5 miles from me with a niggly pain in the hip, so I stopped. The first run after a long run is always horrible!

I like the look of those Brooks Ravenna.

well done all those inching back from injury.

suzannecanthecan · 14/04/2015 18:34

I like brooks Neeko :) love my glycerines but the heel to to drop seems to make my hip worse:( (the ravenna are lower though)

atm I am persevering with hokas and altra's and experimenting with leg training to see what makes it better or worse
it's all very complex Confused (and expensive :( )

Neeko · 14/04/2015 18:43

It is expensive. My other shoes are brooks adrenaline gts 13s. They have served me well.
I am planning on buying another pair in a couple of months so I can alternate.

EdithDickie · 14/04/2015 19:18

Lovely sunny day today. Got 2 miles to add from my lunchtime run.

The GI issues sound a real drag. I hope that you find a solution Sad

emummy · 14/04/2015 20:02

The magazine is available digitally Anglaise but that article is not on the website

Anglaise1 · 14/04/2015 20:46

Thanks emummy I'll buy the mag on Zinio (I get my UK runners world that way!)
Neeko I've never tried aloe vera juice, I have a plant and use it for burns etc. but never though of drinking the juice. I'll try anything!
7.5 miles with the club tonight. Have been put on rest by the coach for a the rest of the week. Not sure I'll be able to stick to it as the weather is too nice not to run!
590.88 including the 2 miles from Edith

lastqueenofscotland · 14/04/2015 21:35

Feeling very stogey at the moment, rang yesterday but won't be able to now until Saturday due to work and social engagements.

You know you're a bit obsessed when seeing your sister for the first time in months/seeing old school friends you've not seen in years irritates you as you can't run!! Lovely seeing them all but why did they all descend on me in one week?!

LastGleaming · 14/04/2015 22:50

Right I'm going to sign up to this thread again. Was on it last year as Morrigu but slipped off after various injuries/pure laziness during the winter.

Been training for a mud ocr this weekend. My first one and am now excited and bricking it in equal measures after seeing the photos on facebook Grin

I am really coveting a bright muti-coloured pair of shoes neeko. Alas am moving house atm so having to stick to my very boring coloured gts13 until I have money to spare.

Are you still counting then, miles/km?

AggressiveBunting · 15/04/2015 02:33

Welcome back lastgleaming. Yes, we're still counting miles and I'm adding 4 from this morning to make 594.88

Mumonabroom · 15/04/2015 06:01

Haven't been on in forever! My mission to run started in January and I have really grown to love getting out there. Yesterday a neighbour showed me a whole new hilly route and so I'm proudly adding 5 miles.

599.88

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 15/04/2015 07:24

Hello again LastGleaming enjoy your mud run. My WOLF bruises are subsiding now Smile

Glad you are enjoying your running MOAB

Glad the physic is helping action, and that your ankle is improving emummy

Hoping to get out later - am working from home again and will no doubt see runners/park users all day to make me Envy

Edging my way closer to my 10k target with a new personal best of 9.02km tonight! I ran for about another 10 mins over the training session on my 10k app but I'd got into a good space and didn't want to stop!

so that's 5.6 miles from me = 605.48

mumonabroom my running mission started at the end of Jan too when i did C25K and struggled to run for 1 minute. Can't believe I'm doing 9km now.

IrianofWay · 15/04/2015 11:47

I discovered a perfect place to run this weekend. It might have been controversial and a waste of money according to Mr Liddel Granger but it's a beautiful place on an April evening and has some good smooth running routes! Grin Saw loads of herons and little egrets.

suzannecanthecan · 15/04/2015 13:22

10.22 from me
615.70

weather wise rather warm but I stood under the fountain a couple of times which helped, my plan for when it gets hotter is to go out in already wet clothes

I could start running in the evening but by the time it's really cooled down I've usually eaten too much to really feel up to running.

Probably worrying about nothing re the heat....knowing what usually passes for 'summer' in the UK!

MorrisZapp · 15/04/2015 14:04

Did my second run last night, another
two miler! Had niggly hip/ bum cheek which suddenly got sharply worse at the end. Still v nippy/ draggy today.

How do you go about getting a physio? Just Google for it?

LastGleaming · 15/04/2015 16:11

Thanks :)

WOLF runs look like so much fun OhOne, well jealous. Am now debating what to put on me. Was going to wear my Under Armour compression shorts as less likely to drag off Grin but after reading about people's knees getting shredded on the pipes not so sure.

I just go to one in my home town Morris as I have problems with one of my hips. There are ones that specialise in sports if you prefer, although mine doesn't.

Also a c25k graduate although from last year. Still never ceases to amaze me the change from being unable to run a minute without feeling like collapsing to now.

4.8 to add so adding on Morris's two that makes 622.5

HalleLouja · 15/04/2015 17:46

4 miles including speed intervals. First time I have done them with my running club and enjoyed it in a weird kind of masochistic way. That makes 626.5.

Morris do you have a local running club or maybe a FB local page. If so ask the people local to you. That might give you some recommendations.

HalleLouja · 15/04/2015 17:57

Plus I went running in my new running shorts I might be a bit in love with them. Especially as I have a tendency to over heat. Managed to buy some more in the same style but different colours.
