First run ever in the rain tonight! It is forecast for the next two weeks (must be because it is school holidays here). I actually really love running in the rain! Found it quite refreshing. Managed 4.07. My 10k training plan moves up a stage next run so may get a bit further.

A pitiful 0.6 from me tonight...320.1

Ankles.,lower calves and shins started hurting from the word go ?? so I decided it was best not to continue. Think it's the result of doing a fat burn xtreme class last night (immediately after boxing class) I know exactly which exercises have caused this pain., some weird jumps in a push up position.may not go back to that class.

No time for running until next week now so that's annoying!!

I shouldn't have been a wuss and probably shouldn't have given up so easily l y!

EdithDickie · 08/04/2015 20:54

No good pushing it if you end up injured sazor, don't beat yourself up!

I have had a very successful day Grin I did 3 x 5 mile runs today in preparation for my endurance relay in May. I actually don't feel too bad considering! 5 before breakfast, 5 at lunchtime and 5 after work. Grin

Got a massive blister on the arch of my right foot where I didn't tape enough but I can live with that. My hips held up much better than expected. I kept a steady (slow - 12 min average) pace. I feel much better about the event now!

suzannecallmestan · 08/04/2015 21:28

I'm always wary of any exercises that involve jumping Sazor at my age I think you have to be

Sazorchard31 · 08/04/2015 21:32

Fab Edith that's loads in one day!

I'll do boxing tmrw lunch so will get some exercise fix in! I know it was best to stop but annoying.g when you're out.

Most of my gym.classes involve a lot of jumping, too much!!

Sazorchard31 · 08/04/2015 21:34

Suz im only early 30s so not having trouble yet, a n d only pushed the one child out, I'm.sure my time will come though when I can't jump!!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 08/04/2015 21:48

Edith you are a MARVEL Grin

It is annoying - like having gone to the effort to get your kit on you feel a bit cheated!

Oh my word blister is in fact totally raw skin. It is agonising!!! What do I do with it??? Ouch ouch!

Any ideas gratefully received!

EdithDickie · 08/04/2015 21:53

Aw thanks OhOne!! Grin

suzannecallmestan · 08/04/2015 22:00

?
ah I think I've given the wrong impression Sazor!
always been wary of strength training stuff which involved jumping (not because of pelvic floor issues, I'm ok on that score) more that I feel slow and controlled is safest with weight training and the two are at odds.
Being older I've accumulated more injuries which might be aggravated anything sudden or 'explosive'Shock

Sazorchard31 · 08/04/2015 22:27

Oops just me making an incorrect assumption...sorry!

stilllearnin · 09/04/2015 06:18

Plank jacks, sazor! Did my knee in this January. Weirdly my 70yr old mum has just given these up! I am early 40s but overweight. I hate being wary of jumping stuff as I like a class where I can throw myself around like a loon. And it makes me feel old. But I do think a lot of those classes go too fast for me to do a proper lunge etc so I'm not really getting the benefit. I have a stupid busy day today. But going to try to get 2 miles of intervals in. I'm aiming for 3 runs pw of any length and 3 strength pw - I need to get a more regular habit going.

actiongirl1978 · 09/04/2015 11:30

Hi everyone,

Edith good work!! Super impressed. I shall be following your lead shortly!

I am running again hurrah! After a super painful day on Tuesday after I saw the physio (the combination of having my knee taped up, plus ultrasound, plus being poked and prodded I expect) I ran this morning as she suggested. I did 3 slow and cautious miles, my breathing was good, there was no pain. BUT almost everytime my foot hit the ground my knee clicked! I wonder if that will go away in time?

I usually run with music so maybe my knee has always done that??

stillearnin I do a Grit class and I sometimes feel it is too fast to get the benefit, so I slow down and don't do it at the same pace. I still feel knackered, but less like I might pull a muscle.

I have a shocking pelvic floor thought. Any kind of jumping after even a mouthful of water is a disaster. My poor 33yr old male personal trainer always looked a bit embarrassed when I said I couldn't do an exercise because I might have a little wee (of course after children I am fairly direct about these things....) Grin

338.1

stilllearnin · 09/04/2015 13:22

Action I am interested in your clicking. I had that and it has now gone unless I do a funny sideways move.

2 slightly warm miles of intervals 340.1

suzannecallmestan · 09/04/2015 13:28

9.81 from me
349.82

suzannecallmestan · 09/04/2015 13:33

Im not sure why I've avoided pelvic floor issues, I've not exactly been vigilant with pf exercise
probably just luck

my pita is improving and Im re thinking my stretching regime after I stumbled across a blog which left me wondering if much of it does more harm than good.

stilllearnin · 09/04/2015 14:26

Ooh any useful info or links to the PITA - mine is defo not made worse by the piddly miles I've so far tried it out on so I'm hopeful.

Forgot to say edith so cool!!! I can only aspire to that kind of day!

suzannecallmestan · 09/04/2015 15:20

I guess it depends on the cause, afaik it is often the piriformis, my physio said it's the sacrotuberous ligament, he said I was running with my back arched so my glutes weren't working properly and the ligament was taking the strain.
I figured that my shoes might be contributing to the posture problem (Heels make you stick your bottom out and mine were 12mm drop) so I switched to lower drop (and max cushioning)
This seems to have helped
he also said do shorter runs, I havent

also been doing glute bridges with foam roll between knee's to try and activate glutes

Anglaise1 · 09/04/2015 16:44

Edith well done on your 3 x 5 miles...that is some dedication especially around a full work day!
I still get a PITA after running, no idea why. Driving is very uncomfortable. Still not sure what foam rolling is even if I did I doubt I'd take the time to do it, like warmups and cool downs
Action good news that you got out running and I think the fact you had no pain is far more important than the clicking, which I'm sure will go away.
15.2 miles from me today. My tapering for my HM on Sunday, lol.
Will try NOT to run tomorrow but the weather is so beautiful, the country footpaths are dry, soft and pretty after pounding the roads for so long. Running is a treat, not a chore at the moment!

orangeflutie · 09/04/2015 18:27

Edith that's very impressive! I would have trouble fitting all those runs in.

Two runs to add from me: 4 miles on Tuesday and 4 today. Forgot to update earlier in the week as got busy with the dds. My neck problem is improving which is good but I'm still on Lyrica so it's a bit difficult to tell. Fairly sure the Lyrica is making my tummy bigger too.

Hope knee and bottom problems get better.

Fwiw I don't think my pelvic floor is too bad but I would be anxious about too much jumping. You just never knowWink

EdithDickie · 09/04/2015 19:04

Thanks all Grin

I feel surprisingly OK today as well. Sore blister but otherwise just a little stiff. Really good confidence boost for the relay thing. Yours is in June I think action? How are you feeling about it?

Good news about no pain. The clicking sounds a bit disconcerting though! My sister has clicky knees and has never found a cause, just one of those things I think.

On the PITA thing mine turned out to be a weak core which meant my glutes and hip flexors were having to over work to keep my pelvis stable when I was running. So daily planks and squats to strengthen core and glutes and I have seen a big improvement.

Neeko · 09/04/2015 20:33

Hi all.

Impressive running Edith.

Glad to hear the aches and pains aren't really holding anyone back.

4 miles from me today which means I have now run just over 100 miles this year and finally feel like a runner!
Treated myself to new shoes today as the ones I've been wearing are the ones I bought when I originally did couch to 5k in 2011. Wanted to try them tonight but went with the experts advice to wear them in the house a few days first. Smile

runtothehills · 09/04/2015 20:45

Action clicking often happens with a poor tracking patella (knee cap) which can be painless but a sign you need to work on the exercises you were given to improve the alignment. i.e. don't stop doing them now it's pain free Smile

Edith well done on the 3 x 5 can imagine the third time required some good motivation!

5 miles this evening and 3 yesterday evening, beautiful weather and loving the lighter evenings. Took them both slowly so to prepare for race on Saturday.
