Popping in to add parkrun Saturday plus 4.9 miles today taking us to 224.6

Anglaise1 · 06/04/2015 10:50

emummy keep icing, have a week off and I'm sure you'll be ready to run again soon, and you will be fine for your 10k. Take it easy for the moment.
8.1 miles from me, beautiful sunny day and I didn't see anyone. On returning, I went to feed the rabbits with DS and one of my gite guests started chatting to me about routes to run locally as he saw I was in running gear. He and his wife are keen runners. Turns out he did the Rome marathon 2 weeks ago as well, it's a small world! He measured it at 43kms (just like everyone else I spoke to after the race...)

2 barefoot treadmill miles from me

emummy hope it rests ok, can always get it taped up for the 10k if it's not too bad. Was up at Balmoral today walking part of the 10k route with friends who are up from down south, it is a lovely race it would be a shame to miss it.

brian and others re hills, definitely short strides, and up on toes. I always imagine trying to push my knees up and forwards, not sure if this is the best technique but it seems to work.

7 miles on Saturday up hill behind my house, and a flat 4 miles this morning with a horrible hangover. May try another short run later this week, but taking it easy as have a local hill race on Saturday. Hoping the weather stays as beautiful as the past couple of days have been, clear blue skies and 20+ degrees Easter Grin

8.12 from me. Oh no emummy i hope it heals very quickly for you
Goodluck tomorrow cinnamon. Cant wait for the announcement

HalleLouja · 06/04/2015 18:18

4.1 miles from me. God that was hard. I am still struggling after over doing it with 2 HMs in 3 weeks. Think I just got over excited. 250.77

Good luck Cinnamon fingers crossed baby comes out as smoothly as possible.

emummy rest up.

All this talk of hokas has me tempted. Lots of the fast people in my running club rate them. Will need to check if there is anywhere nearby that stocks them. Just so I can have a look....

Anglaise1 · 06/04/2015 18:40

Just realised I x posted with Standingonlego this morning so correct total should be
255.67

suzannecallmestan · 06/04/2015 20:51

max cushioning is certainly worth looking into Halle although I do feel a bit comical in mine, tiny woman with huge shoesBlush

I couldnt find a local stockist so had to resort to expensive and time consuming ordering online, although I suppose the lower price compensates for the expense of returning the ones that dont fit

EdithDickie · 06/04/2015 20:59

Just catching up - take care everyone! Hope that injuries and illnesses are on their way asap.

10 miles today. My last long run before hm on the 19th. I had hoped for a feel good "I'm the king of the world" kind of a run for the confidence boost but instead I got sloggy hard work! Really struggled. But..... I did it. And as long as I get around the hm without dying I'm okay with that!

Hope that everyone has had a nice weekend.

Neeko · 07/04/2015 07:37

A lovely and gentle run in the pre-dawn here. 8 degrees, dry, quiet and almost dark: perfect running conditions.

Emummy hope your ankle is lots better today.
Cinnamon best of luck! Hope baby doesn't keep you waiting. I reckon in about seven weeks you'll be back out running rings round some of us. Smile

265.67+3.1=268.77

stilllearnin · 07/04/2015 09:37

3.1m from me today and a tad warmer than I thought. Thinking of you this week cinnamon

Emummy and other injureds - I really agree with whoever posted that from rest you will come back stronger. I am such a novice low miler and already beset with injuries, but I do feel so much stronger for the rest. Good luck anyway.

271.87 miles

actiongirl1978 · 07/04/2015 10:42

Hi everyone, checking in to add my three miles of treadmill walking over the weekend while I rested my knee.

I have just got back from the physio, and as I thought it is runners knee - my knee cap misaligns slightly. I also have super strong hamstrings, but need to strengthen my glutes and do much more calf and ITB rolling as they are also super tight on my dodgy leg.

I am taped up and seeing her again next week. It was totally lovely having someone look at my body and test my flexibility, I wish I had done it periodically as a preventative thing. Sadly though it will be £115 that I could have spent in the COS sale!!

emummy I hope you are feeling better and it is just a muscle pull rather than anything more serious.

brian I agree about short strides and running on toes, takes the pressure off a bit. And slow right down. The speed you lose on the hill you gain when you don't have to stop at the top and your heartrate returns to 'normal' more quickly.

274.87

ImBrian · 07/04/2015 15:01

When you say run on your toes do you mean literally? So run up the hill on just the balls of my feet?

Hope everyone with injuries get sorted soon, it's my worst nightmare to damage something. I saw a physio when I first started as my knees turn in and I wanted to know if I could do anything. Apparently I'm just built a bit wonky! Every twinge I panic about but I'm going to try and go every couple if months, check nothings to right/unbalanced and get a massage while I'm there Smile

phlebasconsidered · 07/04/2015 15:05

The worlds slowest 4 miles from me, groaning under the weight of all the food from the past few days.
278.87

suzannecallmestan · 07/04/2015 16:00

10 from me
288.87

thats a damned expensive physio app ActiongirlShock
mine are more like £40
(does that mean I'm going to a second rate low rent physio Confused )

I tend to run on my forefoot with especially short stride when going uphill

actiongirl1978 · 07/04/2015 16:51

Suzanne the price is for today and two more sessions Grin

imbrian well it depends on how steep the hill is, but yes if the ascent is so steep that I am leaning in, then I go on my toes.

My knee has been super sore all day, I expect because my knee cap is being held in place by the tape .

I have to leave it till thursday then do what the physio called a baseline 4 miles and see how painful it is....

phlebas any running is better than no running!

Anglaise1 · 07/04/2015 20:53

9.5 miles with the club this evening. I've definitely slowed up for short intervals with all the marathon training. Action good news that your knee injury isn't too serious - does your physio have an idea of how long you ned to rest or is it just a case of wait and see? When I had my time off I walked about 10km a day just to keep active. It didn't seem to hurt.
Phlebas you'll have a better run another time, sometimes your energy levels just aren't there for a whole variety of reasons.
Brian yes, short strides light on your feet for hills and save your energy for going down them. I always make the mistake of going up to fast as it is great to overtake them but then regret it when they over take me going downhill.
298.37

Deliaskis · 07/04/2015 21:13

Popping on to add my little runs, 3.2 on Saturday and 4.1 today is 7.3, added to the total is 305.67

Deliaskis · 07/04/2015 21:16

And not only did I run more than 4 miles, which is a lot for me, I also learnt to bold so it's an exciting day!

EdithDickie · 07/04/2015 21:17

Yay Deliaskis!

HalleLouja · 07/04/2015 21:50

Yay Deliaskis. Bolding and rubbing out are your friends. Well they are mine...

CardiffUniversityNetballTeam · 07/04/2015 22:45

I have 3 miles to add from this morning. My first run in almost two weeks having been sidelined through injury. Damn shin splints. I see from looking back through the posts I'm not the only one in the hospital wing. I hope you all feel better soon.

308.67

ImBrian · 08/04/2015 07:51

6.6 to add from me Grin furthest I've ran and we did the 10k race course I'm doing next month so I know I can do it now.

Toes on hills and short strides worked brilliantly and compared with 3 weeks ago when we did part of the route it felt so much easier.

312.27

karatekimmi · 08/04/2015 09:13

I didn't add my parkrun miles on Saturday so 3.1 from me.

315.37

The treadmill has moved out of the garage so at least I can use that if I feel like it. I need to run more consistently - although my babysitters are on holiday I can still run now if I need to!!

It's really encouraging to see lots of you getting close to goals, and trying out the courses. this weather is really encouraging to get out in, although I don't like the heat too much very british as the weather is never right!!
