6.15 here while the Sunday chicken was roasting to bring us to 155.15 I shall enjoy my lunch!

orangeflutie · 05/04/2015 12:56

6 miles to add from me in early Sunday morning sunshine.
Looking forward to my roast lamb for lunch cooked by DHSmile

Happy Easter everyone.

suzannecallmestan · 05/04/2015 14:16

from me 10.33
165.48

first run in the hoka one one shoes, the extra cushioning helps significantly but they are a bit tight in the toe box, think I shall have to experiment with thinner insoles and some of those expert lacing techniques

wondering if I should have gone for Altras since they have the bigger toe boxConfused
no one nearby stocks any of these brands so it's a matter of ordering on the net and then sending back those that dont fit

familygermsareok · 05/04/2015 15:14

Hi everyone, my sympathies to those struggling with injuries and illness, it must be so frustrating Flowers
poppy hope your medication kicks in soon, I hadnt realised overactive thyroid can cause such fatigue.

anglaise you got such a good time and trained so hard for your marathon it must leave a big gap and cause a bit of a down after. Glad your blood tests are ok. Hope you feel better soon.

actiongirl hope physio helps knee. Can you self refer to an NHS physio in your area? In my part of Scotland we don't need to see GP first, just get physio phone no from GP reception and get through to an advice/assessment line. Of course there would still be a wait to actually see a physio if that is the advice, but at least it cuts out waiting to see GP as well.

Congratulations on PBs OhOne and ImBrian. That is brilliant Smile

I have 10.6 to add from Fri morning, last run before my HM next Sun. Bit of a forced taper as I am currently in the French Alps snowboarding for a week.
Not the best prep for a hm! I have already broken my 'only one glass of wine a night' rule Wink

familygermsareok · 05/04/2015 15:19

Also, good luck cinnamon. You truly have been amazing running so long Smile

whowould I was in Wellington once during a visit to North Island. I seem to remember a small train ride up a very steep hill in the middle. I am glad you have some nice flat bits to run in Grin

familygermsareok · 05/04/2015 15:23

ImBrian re up hills , I was once advised to decrease stride and increase cadence going up hills. It really works for me. DH who is a cyclist said I was essentially changing down to a lower gear. I quite like the idea I have gears Grin

Whoops, that is 3 posts in a row, sorry, but I'm making the most of the intermittent wifi here Blush

phlebasconsidered · 05/04/2015 16:02

179.09
as I ran 3.1 today in my best ever time and best ever mile time, which only goes to show that a huge Chinese takeaway and half a bottle of wine the night before isn't always a bad thing!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 05/04/2015 16:24

familygerms someone at my parkrun made exactly the same cycling analogy about hills Smile Enjoy your snowboarding!

Well done phlebas DH used to swear by a takeaway curry and half a bottle of red as HM prep in his running days Grin

Adding flutie's 6 miles so they don't get lost along the way 185.09

ImBrian · 05/04/2015 17:10

I did 4.2 this morning in beautiful sunshine and really enjoyed it. There were some hills, I shortened stride as people suggested and they were no problem at all. It was the constant slow incline for the last 1.2 that wore me out.

It's the furthest I've ran by myself without stopping (apart to cross roads) so I'm really pleased Smile.
I got an email today to remind me it's only 4 weeks till my 10k!! So I need to get distance up a bit.

cinnamon good luck with everything and I hope everyone's enjoying their chocolate/the sunshine.

phlebasconsidered · 05/04/2015 17:23

Well done everyone, and ImBrian, i'm sure you can do it. I am upping my mileage 10% per week on my long run so I can HM by October. Once I hit 4m, I really noticed a difference, I seemed to find the next two miles ok in increments. Now when I run 5K I feel it is "short"! That would have been unbelieveable to me in December. You can do it in 4 weeks, definitely. My BIL, who is an army ultramarathon guy (is up for a 100K "fun" race!) said I didn't even need to train up to 10K to run 10K, 8K was fine. Your body can always do a couple of K more on a race day. i am hoping! I am used to running 6.5 now, but next Sunday will be my first proper race, and I think the sheer raciness of it will either scupper me or make my best time.

Where I live there are NO hills, (Fens) so any incline at all would scupper me. When I first took my kids to Yorkshire they nearly fainted walking up the hills.

Cinnamon: oooooh, you can do it!

Oh one: my BIL would support your DH, and visiting last night he produced a Runners mag that had an article not only proving that a carb heavy takeaay was beneficial, but that it aided recovery from long (hm plus) runs too! Added impetus for me to get to my HM if i can demand we go to Chang's afterwards.

emummy · 05/04/2015 17:30

Disaster ladies! Was up a wee hill by Ballater with dh & dcs, then on way down I slipped on a stone, twisted my ankle and fell heavily on my knee. So now have a nice swollen left ankle and a cut and swollen right kneecap. So the 10k in 3 weeks is looking dodgy, but hopefully will be able to get to half marathon in 8 weeks. Am sitting on sofa with legs up on a cushion, eating Easter egg and feeling v sorry for myself!

karatekimmi · 05/04/2015 18:47

oh no emummy that's awful Sad Cake Wine Flowers

I cant find a frozen peas emoticon. Have you had an anti inflamitory? That might help no knowledge whatsoever so it might not be a good idea disclaimer!! Chocolate is bound to help though.

emummy · 05/04/2015 18:56

Have had wine, chocolate, ibuprofen and paracetamol. Am on sofa with a Mr Tickle ice pack!

phlebasconsidered · 05/04/2015 19:04

Oh no! Elevate it, ice it, but move it and rest it. Only do a short test run at long distance pace when.you are ready. For tonight, get wine and settle in for Poldark. I am!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 05/04/2015 19:41

Oh no emummy! Lots of rest and be careful.

phlebas you're not by any chance doing the Cambourne 10K are you? (no need to reply if you would rather not say). Only I saw it come up on a friend's FB feed last night and am toying with a late entry if it isn't already full.

DH thinks I am bonkers because I am doing the WOLF run on Saturday and might not be able to walk, let alone run, on Sunday Grin.

EdithDickie · 05/04/2015 20:32

Oh no emummy, hope that you are feeling better soon

familygermsareok · 05/04/2015 21:01

Oh no emummy Sad . Don't give up on 10k yet though, sometimes sprained ankle can heal quite quickly and 3 weeks might just be ok, if you have enough training in. Fingers crossed. Keep on with the ice, it's great stuff.

OhOne I like your DHs recommended hm prep, sounds similar to my own this week Wink. And phlebas the best time I ever did on one of my regular runs was on Xmas morning a few years ago after several sherries Confused. I never drink sherry usually, maybe I should start!

I do like the cycling analogy, I often imagine myself shifting gears and have occasionally made vroom vroom noises when I'm sure no one else is around Blush

phlebasconsidered · 05/04/2015 21:05

I am Ohonetwo! It's a 30 min drive from me in flat fenland but i'm meeting several other teachers from my school there. They are all in the fast runners bit, i've put myself in the slow section. I'm horrified and excited and desperately trying to shed a pound before then, although no so desperately that i'm not having wine and Poldark tonight. It looks like a good course. And we get a medal!

cinnamongreyhound · 05/04/2015 21:05

Oh no emummy, take care and hope all heals well!

A group of our parkrun ladies are doing cambourne OhOneOhTwoOhThree. They did the practise run a couple of moths ago for free too Smile

phlebasconsidered · 05/04/2015 21:06

OOh, lots of us going then! I will have to dig out my number from the email so I can share it.

Runrunrun1 · 05/04/2015 22:27

Happy Easter everyone! You poor thing emummy hope you heal soon. No miles to add for me, in Dorset on hols and I'm not sure where to go running and been too many other things to do. Have brought my running stuff with me though. If I don't manage it, I guess a week off shouldn't harm my c25k progress should it? I'm about to start week 8 and so far have only been able to get out twice a week anyway.

LaughingM · 05/04/2015 23:05

Oh no emummy. Hope wine and RICE-ing aids recovery as soon as possible.

Cinnamon you are awesome. Absolutely best of luck for next week and do pop in and tell us when LO arrives! Flowers

Polly sorry to hear that you're still feeling so rough. Fingers crossed that the docs get the right combo of tests / treatments asap.

Ohone in answer to your question pages and pages ago Grin I actually did run the day after my LSR cop out, which was quite a miracle in itself as I had just stepped off the plane in barcelona! Two gentle jogs of 2 miles to add whilst I was away. It was a bit of a shock to the system running in shorts again thigh chaffing.

However, I am totally out of love with running today. Went out for the dreaded 10 miles I have been struggling with since last week... Covered the distance but had to have walking breaks pretty much throughout and I walked for nearly all of the last km. Not one single endorphin in sight, it was just hellish throughout! I am pleased I made myself get to the end, but seriously doubting my HM ability at the moment.

Whowouldfardelsbear · 06/04/2015 07:10

Hope your ankle comes through emummy

A new furthest distance yet for me of 4.36 miles (7km) so getting there for my 10km race in July! Very muggy and hot though and i didn't enjoy the first half very much.

Also my nosy neighbour drove past and slowed right down as he went past and gurned at me, and I know next time I see him he will have some kind of comment to make to me about how I looked hot and sweaty or something. He's like that . . .

AggressiveBunting · 06/04/2015 07:46

Greetings from Borneo! So far managed a total of 14 miles on the treadmill making 217.45. Included a 1 hr PB of 7.8 miles- am trying to get to 8mph before my 40th in a few weeks time. Thought about giving up about half way in as was hot in the gym but then thought about the awesome Cinnamon running with her bump and gave myself a slap Grin. Have also done a bit of paddle boarding which is quite fun.

suzanne hokas are narrow but you get used to it and they stretch out a bit anyway.

Sorry to hear so many of us are battling injury and illness. Hoping enmummys ankle isn't too bad. Dh fell down some steps early this week and his ankle really swelled but the next day it was ok( he took some Voltarol and iced it).

suzannecallmestan · 06/04/2015 08:38

I'm relieved to hear that they stretch AggressiveBunting!
Re ankles, I'm prone to going over on mine, last time I did it the acute pain went after a few days but it was swollen for months.
It wasn't until I started running that the swelling and feeling of instability finally went.
May have been coincidence but I wonder if the running helped by increasing circulation to the injured tissues ?
