I have an ipod mini for podcasts and music I find it great for running and use it in the gym too:)

Crazy mad strong winds are forecast here tomorrow, I think I may forsake running for some weights and gym cardio, I'll still have to cycle in the crazy mad strong wind though if I want to get to the gym
On a track not a road... I wont be dicing with the traffic!

Anglaise1 · 30/03/2015 18:27

5 miles from me after a very physical day's work. I much prefer running in the morning when I have more energy!
I run with my iphone to listen to podcasts or the radio when I run. I have a SPI belt which fits my phone perfectly and doesn't jiggle. I wear it under my T shirt and waterproof jacket if it is raining.

9 miles from me today. Hard but enjoyed it and I think my core exercises and squats may be starting to pay off as glutes didn't ache until 4.5 miles in which is a definite improvement on my last few runs Smile

EdithDickie · 30/03/2015 19:32

Suzannewithaplan · 30/03/2015 21:27

on the subject of glute ache I have a theory that switching to lower drop shoes may help with mine so I'm going to test it next time I run.

I find it often starts about 4 or 5 miles in then stays at a constant level, but hurts a fair bit if I am sitting later in the day :(
Have also ordered a pair of the hoka one one shoes....the online reviews seem to be pretty good

LaughingM · 30/03/2015 21:36

I'm really annoyed with myself - set out on my planned 10 miles today and just could not get into it at all. I gave up after 3 Sad. Legs aching and I just couldn't get over the 'I can't do it' voice in my head. It's been ages since I gave into those demons but I'm particularly annoyed as I'm going away tomorrow so won't be able to do a long run till next sunday now. Still, it might be better to have a few days off and come back feeling refreshed...

Well done everyone who had more success today!

EdithDickie · 30/03/2015 21:39

3 miles is 3 miles Laughing, no shame in that! A good rest and you'll be well up for a long run when you're back!

EdithDickie · 30/03/2015 21:40

Ooh looking forward to the shoe feedback Suzanne! Liking the theory.

familygermsareok · 30/03/2015 22:21

Just popping on to quickly add my miles since Sat, will come back and read thread tomorrow.
3.1 parkrun miles from Sat, 4.8 from Sun and 10.5 from this morning = 18.4

1592.35+ 18.4 = 1610.75

( I think I've got that right, my brain is fried at the moment!)

Suzannewithaplan · 30/03/2015 22:28

?
I won't get my hopes up Edith, probably comes down to plain old overdoing it, but I shall report back on the shoe experiment.

Laughing we all cut short runs or workouts at times, you gave it a go but your body said it needed more rest, better than pushing on and scuppering future runs by overdoing it ?

cinnamongreyhound · 31/03/2015 07:23

Whatever I have done to my bum is definitely worse in the boots I walk in than in my trainers Suzannewithaplan. They aren't really high at all but I was thinking that it must be to do with heel height. Hoping to do an easy run with my club without a headtorch tonight Smile then usual Thursday early morning and that will be it. Although Dh said to me last night I should get up and go the morning before I'm induced!

HalleLouja · 31/03/2015 08:22

3.2 miles to add here makes 1613.95.

Just a nice gentle run round the village. Grin I have missed my solo runs of late and will try to fit some more in.

Suzannewithaplan · 31/03/2015 08:57

Cinnamon, as I understand it any kind of raised heel tilts you forward and makes you arch your back (not to mention throwing your whole body out of alignment)
?
The physio said that tilting forward and arching my back when running was causing the pain, so I got to thinking maybe it's my 12mm drop running shoes.
Katy Bowman talks about this sort of thing in her blog ?www.restorativeexercise.com/
?

Whowouldfardelsbear · 31/03/2015 09:25

Hello can I join you? I'm a recent C25K graduate so won't be adding huge miles to the total, but I'm working on it!

Just done 3.03 miles so guessing that makes it 1616.98

I'm in New Zealand and just run around the suburb - nice and flat at least!

familygermsareok · 31/03/2015 09:29

Caught up with thread now. Well done on all the running everyone, especially the hard, really don't want to do this miles. So much tougher than when it is all going easily!
aggessive that sounds like a perfect prize for you Smile. Have a great holiday.
suzanne glad you have identified the problem area, hope the physio and shoe changes help.
nappyaddict welcome. I run in most weather, I find with the right gear I am fine and generally get too hot rather than too cold anyway. Only thing that really stops me is if it is too icy to be safe underfoot --although
torrential rain and hailstones would certainly make me think twice--

3.7 early morning intervals today. Cut short because of hailstones funnily enough!
Doing sprints into the rather forceful wind was bad enough but when it started chucking lumps of ice at me too I decided enough was enough!
Feel like I have had a very effective dermo-abrasion treatment for free now Grin

Oops, x post!
Welcome whowouldfardelsbear. What part of NZ are you in? I lived in Christchurch for a year and absolutely loved it. So sad to hear about the devastation post quake.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 31/03/2015 10:03

cinners you are AMAZING Smile It is so brilliant that you have been able to keep going for so long. Fingers crossed you don't have to be induced - DS1 was induced early and it was awful; DS2 arrived bang on time of his own accord and it was quick and easy. The only thing I did to encourage DS2 was some reflexology. From what I remember it is your big toe that needs a massage Smile

Great total germs, I don't like the sound of your hailstones. Hoping to get out later, although it is still very windy here. Laughing are you running today?

Welcome Whowould, all miles are welcome Smile

Welcome Whowould, hope you keep enjoying running

4.9 mile progression run today, nice sunshine but a brisk wind. No hailstones here thank goodness!

runtothehills · 31/03/2015 13:04

Welcome whowould and nappy. With posters in NZ and HK means we are adding to the total 24 hours a day Grin.

Checking in with my miles since Saturday. Slow 3 mile recovery on Sunday, 4 miles hill intervals yesterday and 8 miles on forest tracks today. Legs are feeling pretty tired so having a rest day tomorrow.

Suzanne heels do make your gluts work harder but that is only effective if they aren't fatigued, otherwise yes you do fall into more pelvic tilt which may explain why you're ok for the first few miles. Interesting to see how your trainer experiment works.

3 + 4 + 8 = 15

Runrunrun1 · 31/03/2015 13:14

Hello whowould! I'm only part way through c25k, and not running 3 miles yet, but it's lovely to be able to add my few miles on!

MrsWahlberg · 31/03/2015 14:25

Not been on here since my treadmill run of 5k last week. Did 6.16 miles yesterday so 1646.74 total. Will go back and read through the threads and catch up!!

karatekimmi · 31/03/2015 16:17

Every run should count so here is my 0.8 miles from this morning Grin I was planning on 5k but bump was just not feeling right so headed back home. We went to drayton manor today and I've had a rubbish day Al achey and blah Sad oh well, tomorrow is another day!!

1647.54

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 31/03/2015 16:17

Well done MrsW and runtothehills.

5.6 from me this afternoon through sunshine, horizontal rain, gusts of wind and a few spots of hail at the end to take us to 1652.34. My personal monthly total is 64.5, not bad as I had a week off with my cold and a week trailing with work so didn't run as much as usual. But a bit of catching up to do to stay on track for 1000 miles the year Smile

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 31/03/2015 16:18

Oops, x-post with kimmi, hope you and bump are OK.

1 from me
1654.14

I did it on the treadmill in my vibrams, just to see how it felt, very odd at first and then my body seemed to remember that a different gait is required (smaller steps, landing more on my toes) and it felt ok.

As part of my footwear experiment I may try and include a bit more barefoot style treadmill work, just to sort of strengthen my running powers
