ImBrian - that's fabulous going, I'm sure under 30 will be yours very soon :)

kimmi - bit too far from Telford I think unless you go in for mad blather's-style tourism :) Think airport town with Lorraine Chase connections (though that might just be old foggies like me that remember the ad :))
The website goes live next w/e so then the world will know but hopefully not all turn up to the inaugural :o

Sadly there are still shades of dinosaur amongst some male runners. Don't forget that this was less than 50 years ago and the first women's Olympic marathon was in 1984 Shock

cinnamongreyhound · 22/03/2015 11:15

I am amazed at that feetheart! Very moving and scary that she was treated like that Shock

MelanieCheeks · 22/03/2015 16:49

Armagh

karatekimmi · 22/03/2015 18:23

it's shocking that sexism like that still exists. Luckily those people are few and far between, and my experiences have all been positive, although being slow I am not a threat to anyone!! I think locally and probably nationally as well parkrun has done wonders for interclub relations.

Blatherskite · 23/03/2015 09:13

"Mad blathers style tourism"?!

decides not to mention that she's going to Kent to parkrun this weekend

probably also wise not to mention that she's parkrunning while waiting for her afternoon half marathon to start

Blush

If it helps, even I think I'm nuts Grin

Blatherskite · 23/03/2015 09:14

I hit 30 different parkuns last weekend too Grin

feetheart · 23/03/2015 09:19

It'll be a warm-up then Blathers :o

Blatherskite · 23/03/2015 09:22

Exactly Grin

HalleLouja · 23/03/2015 09:24

Blathers you are mad inspirational. Am doing my third one at Easter weekend near Great Yarmouth round a different lake. Then there is an ingural in April near by so will do that too.

Am also considering Panshanger on 3rd May. So that will make 5 parkruns.

Am on rest after collapsing after yesterday's HM. Think I will leave it until Parkrun day next week.

HalleLouja · 23/03/2015 09:25

As in this Saturday's parkrun. That will be nearly a week off exercise.

feetheart · 23/03/2015 09:38

Halle - April's involves a lake too. Maybe you could start the list for the most park run's done round lakes :o
Is the Gt Yarmouth one Fritton Lake? That was my first ever parkrun, in May last year, it chucked it down with rain :)

feetheart · 23/03/2015 09:39

parkruns - stupid bl**dy auto-correct. Need to sort that out!

feetheart · 23/03/2015 09:40

Hope you are feeling better after yesterday? Think nearly a week off is a good idea.

HalleLouja · 23/03/2015 09:57

I can't do Panshanger 2nd May as that is when my club are doing a Flashmob at St A.

Fritton Lake is the one I am doing Feet. I looked at Gorleston Cliffs and decided that was a no goer so the lakes it is.

Feet do you have any info about parking etc for your parkrun that I can pass onto my club mates. There are a few of us who want to come over. But said I could pass on details. PM would probably work better.

ImBrian · 23/03/2015 10:06

Sunderland parkrun has a lake but perhaps a bit far north. I'm taking dd out jogging tonight as she wants to be able to run the whole parkrun. How do you stop them just going full pelt and having to stop after 30 seconds? I'm thinking if I walk and make her jog alongside that'll help keep her pace down.

Wow on parkrun followed by half marathon! I've only been running 8 weeks and most I've done in one go is 4 1/2 miles! I'm in awe at people who can run for miles and miles though hopefully I'll get there eventually. Same with speed, how do people run anything under an 8 minute mile? My legs just don't go that fast!

cinnamongreyhound · 23/03/2015 11:22

Hi ImBrian, don't think I've ever run a sub 8 min mile!!!!!!

I almost did gorlston when on holiday but I was injured and didn't even manage a mile around the caravan site a few days before so decided not to try. I've heard on a nice day it's great on a cold/windy day it's torturous!!! One of our parkrunners did a duathlon at fritton lake and my friend does her outside swimming practise there for her triathlons but I don't know anyone who's done the parkrun.

feetheart · 23/03/2015 12:10

Imbrian - how old is DD?

DS is 9 and regularly does parkrun with me. He usually beats me in the sprint finish and his PB is 1 minute quicker than mine now (he ran that one with someone else as I couldn't keep up!)
We talk a LOT about not going off too fast at the start as 5k is a long way - start slow, see how you feel after the first lap then, maybe, speed up a bit, then if you still feel good when you can see the finish line (which at our local parkrun is a looooooooong way ahead) speed up some more and at 50-100m just go for it! This is just as relevant for me as it is for him :)
I let him dictate the pace hoping that I can keep up.

If she hasn't run before maybe do a run/walk thing with her so she can run a bit, walk a bit which will give her and you a chance to recover if she has haired off to start with!
Most of all enjoy it, I love that DS and I have a passion we share (even if he nicked my 'Running with the Kenyans' book as soon as I got it!)

I'm excited to run a new parkrun this week - it's taken no small organising to make it, but make it we will! Some trial run photos appeared on my facebook and it looks lovely.

My sister is going to Bushy Park this weekend - so jealous. But last week they had 1000+ runners Shock

feetheart · 23/03/2015 15:05

Bushey is on our very short list of 'need to do' parkruns, along with Portrush (I do love a beach :))

feetheart · 23/03/2015 15:07

That's Bushy not a suburb of Watford!

Blatherskite · 24/03/2015 08:10

MK got a new course record the week before last with 624 runners!! It was the third largest in the country apparently.

Being RD is getting scarier and scarier by the week!

feetheart · 24/03/2015 11:38

Any idea where they all came from Blathers because that was a big jump and I know a few Redway Runners were at SA?
Happily I think hope ours would self-limit before we got that big. I can't see it being much fun trying to squeeze round the park if we got 350-400. Hopefully by that time we will have asked the Council to let us have another venue (and more set-up funding :))

HalleLouja · 24/03/2015 11:43

Feet are you looking at the park near the M1 with a centre for the future? Please say yes there aren't any lakes there.

feetheart · 24/03/2015 11:55

Halle - not looking at anywhere in particular yet. Just know that we are going to get popular rather quickly and looking to the future.
There is the possibility of another parkrun close by (think the D in L&D hospital!) although that may hinge on the results of a scientific survey!
It's all talk at the moment but it's fun to chew things over :)

Blatherskite · 24/03/2015 12:08

Yes feet. It was the RR beginners group graduation run that weekend and there were something like 120 people in the evening group this time!Shock!Shock!

So them, plus buddies, plus people coming out of the woodwork as the weather was nicer would easily make up the numbers even with a few away.

I can see it getting to be a regular number during this summer though.

We were chatting to your/our Local Ambassador at Maidenhead last weekend and he was telling us about a potential number 2 near you. MK could do with another too but I'm not sure where we'd put it or where the extra volunteers would come from as we already struggle. junior parkrun is the next new thing on the horizon for us.
