New thread for parkrunners old and new.

We are a long-running thread, but very friendly - please come and say hello, and chat about PBs, tourism, progress towards tee-shirts and anyything else about parkrun Smile

Thanks cinnamon, I hadn't ever thought about the runners and dogs communicating before although it seems obvious now. It was fascinating to watch. I suspected you might have a greyhound somehow, your username gives it away Wink

One of my friends had a whippet, whatever he lacked in the brain area he more than made up for in energy, enthusiasm and amazing speed. Another friend had 2 black labs and all 3 dogs were great friends but the whippet left the others standing chasing balls Grin

Antrim
Very pretty, very flat course.

I don't usually give verbal commands to Minnie, though I'll occasionally pant "c'mon girl" as she pulls me up the hills. I use a tug on the lead to get her to change position.

bibliomania · 07/03/2015 20:06

Oops, just posted on the main running thread when I should have posted here.

Just did my first ever parkrun this morning! 36.16 so not at all fast, but I'm delighted that I got round the course at all and rather surprised to do it in under 40 mins (and relieved not to be the very last one). I'm going to try and bring dd(7) next week.

I didn't realise it was such a big thing - over 400 people there this morning.

I'm massively exhilarated at having done it. I started doing C25K last year, but had let it slide in recent months, and I was afraid I had lost all the progress that was so painfully made. But I did it!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 07/03/2015 20:12

Post away on both threads bibliomania - we all do Grin

Congratulations on your first parkrun!

Thanks! And that reminds me, I couldn't believe how encouraging everybody was, particularly to us laggards at the back of the pack. A few cries of "Good running, love" kept me going right at the end, even if it wasn't strictly accurate.

cinnamongreyhound · 07/03/2015 22:14

parkrun is all about the community, everyone supports each other no matter what their ability, that's why I love it!

karatekimmi · 08/03/2015 06:43

Well done 01203 what a fantastic time, it's funny how you can't do anything for ages then one week you just smash it!!! Grin

Well done to biblio and livetup it can be daunting turning up the first time!! Be warned though, it's addictive!! And it can be a gateway "drug" - it can end in 10ks, half marathons, more gear do you have trail shoes yet?!! and even marathons!! GrinGrinGrin

feetheart · 08/03/2015 07:44

Well done everyone, superb running by the the regulars and the newbies.

I second kimmi, it is addictive, in the best possible way - can we add 'setting up a local parkrun' to the gateway drug list?

Thanks for coming to say hello Halle, sorry I wasn't more communicative, had to concentrate on DS's bar-code scanning technique! I was supposed to be the one learning how to do it but I was relegated to 'barcode scanning observer' as he did a brilliant job :) Back volunteering next week then I'm RD the week after ShockShock

We have a proper official start date - the Saturday after the WOLF Run. Very excited, very nervous :)

HalleLouja · 08/03/2015 22:01

Feet I have faith in minifeet he is awesome. I bet you are going to be deputy RD whilst he leads the show. Ohhh he had a mention on the SA PR FB (spot the acronyms) page on the post to page bit. Well done to him. I thought someone was taking photos but haven't seen them on the page.

PS it was a 18 second PB . I paid for it on my LSR today though.

feetheart · 08/03/2015 22:23

Halle - thanks for that, I hadn't spotted it. Will show him in the morning :)
You may not be far wrong re mini-RD!

That's a decent chunk off your PB, well done, though sorry the LSR was harder than it should have been.

HalleLouja · 09/03/2015 05:59

I think Berko is to blame for effort on LSR. There were a lot of hills and it was my first HM. Grin

feetheart · 09/03/2015 07:07

And it was only a week ago!

Blatherskite · 09/03/2015 09:36

My tourism went wrong this weekend and I ended up doing a course I'd done before. Ah well, it was fun and I got to catch up with someone from my old club who I haven't seen for ages.

Actually considering doing my home run this weekend Shock Wink

HalleLouja · 09/03/2015 15:45

Blathers don't do it Shock. How did you forget you had been before?

HalleLouja · 09/03/2015 15:46

Actually scrap that..... with so many parkruns its easy to forget Grin.

ThursdayLast · 09/03/2015 16:55

HI!
I survived the hen do! And everyone said I wouldnt get to parkrun so I blummin' well DID get to parkrun! Two of my hens and I did a lot of run/walk/walk more/run slowly but we did it without incident.

Very funny seeing the looks on the faces of the parkrunners who saw a lot of cocktail making pictures on FB the night before Shock!

Hope you all had a lovely weekend!

JennyOnTheBlocks · 09/03/2015 17:00

OhOne, seeing you do all the fast and flats, you not tempted by Corby then? It's not fast or flat, but it can be muddy and a lot of fun Grin

afternoon all, btw

parkrun regular here, run 14 and volunteered 10

love it!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 09/03/2015 17:09

Hi Jenny muddy you say? I like muddy Smile. I will have a look - I don't know Corby at all.

OP posts:
JennyOnTheBlocks · 09/03/2015 17:13

let me know if you're tempted, i'll give you a special cheer or say hi as you fleet past me Grin

it's a tough course, but we're very proud of it

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 09/03/2015 20:42

As it happens, I have reason to be in the neighbourhood in the next couple of weeks - I will PM you if my plan comes off Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 09/03/2015 21:48

Well done ThursdayLast!

It's our birthday Saturday Grin balloons, tutus and cake all round, very exciting!!!!!

Blatherskite · 10/03/2015 09:33

I didn't forget Halle. The guy who drives when we go to other parkruns (because he has the biggest car) had a big birthday last week. He suggested that we changed the planned parkrun which none of us had done before to a slightly closer parkrun which none of us had done before because he was going out on Friday night and didn't fancy a really long drive in the morning.

Then he slept in!

By the time he arrived, we only had time to get to a close one and as we've all done so many, we've all done all of the close ones so we had to re-do one.

I have DS's 8th birthday party this weekend which I have stupidly planned for 11am on Saturday so I'll only have time to go 'home' to run if I'm going to make it back on time.

Crazy tourism will re-commence the week after Wink

cinnamongreyhound · 13/03/2015 09:43

Very excited about our birthday! Check out this awesome cake. I showed it to dh who said that's good, who's 2? Just amazing how this man can live with me and have really no idea about this, he must walk around with his eyes and ears closed!!!!!!!!

Great cake cinnamon, I wish I could come!

I volunteered to tail run tomorrow. I have been away on a work trip all week and don't get back to the UK until midnight tonight so I cleverly thought that I could stroll around the course instead of having to run. But I forgot that all the volunteers have to be there 20 minutes early, so I am doing myself out of some precious sleep Smile. And the volunteer co-ordinator sent me an email reserving their right to swap my duty if there were not enough other volunteers, so I might not even get to walk the course.
