How lovely Blatherskite!! Good luck with the junior event Smile

chutneypig · 21/06/2015 11:56

How did it go Blathers? I thought of you at ours and hoped you had lovely weather like we did. Lovely to see so many youngsters out. I met a little girl who was doing her first run today and she was beaming as she came in.

Blatherskite · 21/06/2015 12:00

I'm so glad we borrowed the finish tokens and barcode scanners from 'big' parkrun as the standard kit for a new junior parkrun is 250 tokens and one barcode scanner and we got 230 runners!!! Shock

Even with five scanners, 3 parents took their children home without getting scanned because they said the queue was too long!

Everything went well though and we had lots of happy kids.

Now to carb load for my half this afternoon....

Blatherskite · 21/06/2015 12:05

Sorry, 200 tokens. We wouldn't have had enough!

steppemum · 21/06/2015 23:11

dd1 ran junior parkrun this morning. Last time she did it in 19:22 and this time in 19:44.
She was almost the last one in again, but this time she came in smiling and made a huge effort to run the last bit, and sprint finish. She reckons she runs most and just walks a bit Wink

chutneypig · 22/06/2015 06:40

That's brilliant blathers. I bet that's made a lot of children very happy. I can't imagine what the queues would have been like with only one scanner if you'd not borrowed the others.

That's lovely too steppe. Especially the smiling.

DS was very happy with a PB at both big and junior runs this weekend. DD thoroughly enjoyed herself but fancies a volunteering stint so we'll be tail running next weekend.

feetheart · 22/06/2015 13:55

Brilliant job Blathers - we will come and visit soon :)

Halle - the loos at the cricket club would be fine for a 'flannel wash' and at that time of day they are only used by parkrunners who would understand what was going on :) Go on, you know you want to! There will be cake as it will be our 10th one and we feel the need to celebrate :o

Fox - welcome to the parkrun addiction :)

Our 9th event and we are training up the juniors already - DS did timing (with me as back-up timer) and his parkrun buddy did the new runner's briefing. DS has his eyes on the results processing next!

HalleLouja · 22/06/2015 14:18

Feet my husband thinks I am mad for considering it and he is probably right.... He wants to give me a lift to the airport. But its 11 minutes drive apparently.

Blathers sounds fab. I think we might do Aylesbury and then there is a nice pool there we can take the DCs to. Or we could do what we did yesterday and go to Waddesdon Manor.

feetheart · 22/06/2015 17:03

Possibly less than 11 mins from the park to the airport Halle. If you can get dropped off/get a lift to the park I can drop you off at the airport if you want and be back for cake before they have scoffed it all :)

HalleLouja · 22/06/2015 17:21

I don't think DH would drop me off at the park. He does think I am bonkers. Will decide later in the week but am tempted.

Blatherskite · 22/06/2015 17:27

Aylesbury starts next Sunday Halle. The team came to shadow us yesterday and they are lovely. I'll come over with mine once Mk has settled a bit.

feetheart · 22/06/2015 18:11

Maybe we need to do a MN Junior parkrun tourist trip :)

HalleLouja · 23/06/2015 09:19

Feet which one are you thinking? I could persuade DH to go to Aylesbury. Not sure about MK unless we went to Ikea.... Mmmmm hot dogs.

feetheart · 23/06/2015 14:12

Either, though if it's MK and Ikea it has to be meatballs :)

TriJo · 23/06/2015 17:05

Giving some consideration to doing my first post-wedding Parkrun this weekend - have been back running but haven't picked the pace up much! Highbury Fields for me I think!

HalleLouja · 24/06/2015 08:28

How could I forget the meatballs? Think DH would be more amnable to driving to Aylesbury and as I can't drive on motorways etc I will need to drag him along.

cheapandcheerful · 25/06/2015 08:37

Out of interest, how many runs do you all do during the week between parkruns and how far do you go?

TriJo · 25/06/2015 10:31

3 runs a week generally, hard to fit in more when there's swimming and cycling to get done too!

Blatherskite · 25/06/2015 10:52

Normally, I would run another 2-3 times a week but I'm doing Juneathon this month so am running almost daily. This week, I did parkrun on Saturday, a half marathon on Sunday, helped with step up group on Monday and ran a 10k last night!!

I ache a bit today Confused Wink

cinnamongreyhound · 25/06/2015 14:03

I was doing 3+parkrun cheapandcheerful and longest was usually 8-10miles but since having my baby I am doing 3 including parkrun and longest is 5 miles. When he's not so dependant on me I will happily increase mileage again Smile

So what are everyone's parkrun plans? I'm rd this week with ds3 helping me out Wink

MelanieCheeks · 25/06/2015 14:42

No parkrun for me this Saturday - I'm looking after DH's special needs son, so we have brunch and a matinee to look forward to!

I HAVE just signed up for a half in September, so I will try to get a long run in on Sunday. To answer cheapandcheerful, I usually run 3-4 times a week, but will probably only have 2 rest days a week for the next 12 weeks.

feetheart · 25/06/2015 17:29

Found out today that DS's gymnastics club championships clashes with parkrun this weekend ShockShockSadSad For the post 4 years it has been in the afternoon so I didn't even think about it.
I am bereft, I will have to leave my baby in the capable hands of others and go and support DS.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 25/06/2015 20:31

Evening all Smile

cheap I try to run a couple of times in the week, usually at lunchtime so only 2 or 3 miles, and then try to do 8-10 miles on Sunday.

cinners not sure if I will be at parkrun this weekend. We have a black tie ball tomorrow night Shock. I think this will be my first time in a long dress since getting married 19 years ago Grin. We are staying somewhere between Corby and Market Harborough so depending on what time we get to bed I may do some tourism Smile. Plan is to stick both into the SatNav but am not holding out a huge amount of hope

Melanie have a nice day with your DSS. There's a HM thread knocking around, so come and say hello.

feet your poor baby! How inconsiderate of the gymnastics club! Good luck to DS in the competition Smile

I'm having a Parkrun dilemma about tomorrow. I missed last weeks and won't be able to do the next two. Problem is I have a very sore throat and am a bit bunged up. I ran 4.5 miles yesterday which was a struggle. I know I won't be at my best but still want to run. Do I do it or focus on getting better?
