New thread for parkrunners old and new.

We are a long-running thread, but very friendly - please come and say hello, and chat about PBs, tourism, progress towards tee-shirts and anyything else about parkrun Smile

So impressed with that time for your DD, fellow 'eat'. My DD and I got round the course, but they were pretty much packing up the funnel behind us! I was about ten minutes off my PB, which I achieved last time out. But I do love running with her - despite the need to encourage, cajole, bribe and blatantly lie (about how far was left) to get her round. The galling bit was the end - I had run, extremely slowly but still running, while she walked for about a third of the way, maybe more. But she decided to sprint the end, and as she'd been conserving her energy by walking (and she's 13 rather than 41) she was amazingly fast and had a place about ten ahead of me! Trying to convince her that she can learn to run distance, but I don't think she's listening ... Still enormous fun though, and I do love running with her.

Back from the wilds of Suffolk and unpacking all day.
DS and I ran at Fritton Lake which was beautiful - last time it absolutely chucked it down so I struggled to see where I was going never mind look around me. DS did struggle a bit but I think he was over-heating as he had several layers too many on so we ran a pretty slow time and I spent a lot of time pointing out the scenery to distract him :)
He was however very pleased that he has run more parkruns than me (23) and, finally, at more locations (9). I should get my volunteer t-shirt before him though :)

cinnamongreyhound · 26/05/2015 13:07

I checked the results for fritton lake feetheart but my friend wasn't there Sad glad you enjoyed the scenery though and the weather was good. I'm on 38 volunteering stints now so should get my t-shirt at some point Smile

meglet · 26/05/2015 13:19

just got the email letting us know the new t-shirts are almost ready!

I know it will be many weeks before they're ready to be dispatched but at least I can tell ds he should have his junior 10 T in the not too distant future. he wants to take it to school to show everyone.

meglet · 26/05/2015 13:24

eat that's a fab time for your dd!

my 8yr ds is 90 seconds off my pb, I know he'll be sneaking up on me over this summer. I have a crazy plan for us both to improve a notch and be scraping in around the higher 25 min mark in a year's time. Then he'll start thrashing me Grin .

cheapandcheerful · 26/05/2015 20:05

Okay...

Having registered for parkrun a few weeks ago I have decided to finally bite the bullet and attempt my first one this weekend - eek!

This evening I managed 4.85k in 32 mins which I suppose counts as okay? I had a look at the results board for my local parkrun and with that time I'd maybe around the middle somewhere...

Yay!

cinnamongreyhound · 26/05/2015 20:11

It's more than ok cheapandcheerful, enjoy!!!

My friend is the same meglet, she got her ds to go along and now he's beaten her pb by running with someone else as she can't keep up with him!

meglet · 26/05/2015 20:35

cheap you'll be fine. It's quite likely you'll be a tad faster running with everyone else. I know I tend to fanny along more concerned with flicking through my ipod when I run by myself.

meglet · 26/05/2015 20:36

sorry, yes cheap the 32 min would be a decent run anywhere. I didn't mean to imply it wasn't and you had to squeeze a bit more out of yourself!

feetheart · 27/05/2015 09:04

cheep - well done for signing up, enjoy your first parkrun and come back and tell us all about it. Just be aware that this parkrun lark is very addictive :o

eat - that is a great time for your DD. I lost the family PB after about 4 parkruns with DS(9), he is now over a minute faster than me on a good day but isn't very consistent yet so I can keep up with him sometimes :)

cinnamongreyhound · 28/05/2015 07:45

Maybe it's good that mine don't want to come Wink

feetheart · 30/05/2015 07:27

Back to normal after we had to cancel last week because of the carnival and it's our first parkrun with a 40th birthday to celebrate - I have been told there will be tutus and cake :)

Happy parkrunday everyone.

ThursdayLast · 30/05/2015 07:32

Happy parkrun day!

Number 47 for me today Smile

EATmum · 30/05/2015 07:39

Envious of you all! I can only parkrun when DH isn't working as the children need delivering to different clubs at exactly the wrong time. So I won't be there for another two weeks at least. Enjoy your running wherever you are. And I hope the sun shines on you!!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 30/05/2015 08:26

Happy parkrun day from me tooSmile Lovely sunny morning here. DS1 is coming with meSmile

I wanted to stop by and say hello. I can't make it today so thought I'd go for a virtual fix. I'm amazed how much it's become a feature of life in the last couple of months.

Just the junior parkrun for us this weekend, so I'll have to make do!

Hope everyone has a great run this morning.

cinnamongreyhound · 30/05/2015 08:49

I'm not going today as I've woken up feeling terrible Sad and it's gorgeous outside!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 30/05/2015 11:00

Sorry to hear you are feeling ropey cinnamon, hope you bounce back quickly.

Hello chutney, hope the junior parkrun is fun Smile

How was your parkrun cheap?

DS thinks he got a PB today - 22 something. I trundled round slowly, but was just glad to be out - apart from a yoga class yesterday I have done no exercise for 10 days Shock

My first parkrun was BRILLIANT! I met a couple of others who were doing their first run and we all managed roughly the same time which was nice.

I had dh and two dds cheering me on too :)

I came 300th and my time was somewhere around 35mins I think.

Any idea when I can expect my time to come through?

cheapandcheerful · 30/05/2015 12:28

Got it!
33:19

I'm quite happy with that and I think 30mins gives me a nice target to work towards. Yay!

ThursdayLast · 30/05/2015 12:47

Lovely cheap well done!

Get well soon cinnamon

Sounds very pleasant ohone Smile

I did a sturdy, average, run-of-the-mill 27.52.
I'm not sure I'll ever manage to beat my PB again!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 30/05/2015 12:51

Well done Thursday I would love to get back under 30 mins, but it just isn't happening at the moment Smile

Glad you enjoyed it cheap Smile

Welcome to the club cheap! You're going to love it!

Sorry you're not feeling well cinnamon.

After giving up hope today I did it, I got a pb! 29.03. ( guess what the new challenge is.....!) Feeling so good Grin

chutneypig · 30/05/2015 14:46

How did your DS get on when the times came in ohone? My DS would be thrilled with anything near that. He's constantly moaning I'm too slow.

Brilliant cheap, that's a great start. I couldn't believed how great an experience it all is.

Well done Thursday, that's sounds good to me! I bet you're flosting on air, Knackerelli.

Weathers not looking too hot for tomorrow here, I guess that'll test the DCs resolve to run!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 30/05/2015 15:02

Well done Knackerelli Grin

chutney DS1 was just under 23 mins - a new PB for him Grin. He does have youth and long legs on his side though (he is too old for junior parkrun Grin)
