New thread for parkrunners old and new.

We are a long-running thread, but very friendly - please come and say hello, and chat about PBs, tourism, progress towards tee-shirts and anyything else about parkrun Smile

I went to Newbury parkrun today (obviously Hmm - another 6:30 start needed!) It was nice and flat for the first 2 miles but having not run for a week while the kids have been on half term, I felt slow and sluggish and was a bit frustrated with my time.

Juneathon starts on Monday and last year I managed to lose almost 5 minutes from my 10k PB (most of which I've managed to find again Sad) so I'm hoping that I'll have ditched them again by the end of next month and possibly have a shiny new parkrun PB too!

Is the general running thread still going? I've lost it.

cinnamongreyhound · 30/05/2015 19:17

Well done cheapandcheerful!!

I don't think I'll ever beat mine either ThursdayLast, haven't been near not for a long time!!!

Fab knackerelli Grin

Yes, it's here blatherskite Smile

Knackerelli · 30/05/2015 21:38

Thanks everyone; doing a 10k breakfast run tomorrow to celebrate Smile

cinnamongreyhound · 02/06/2015 17:07

Anyone else seen this?

ThursdayLast · 02/06/2015 17:09

Hmm cinnamon I hadn't.

Im looking disapprovingly at my screen right now

cinnamongreyhound · 02/06/2015 17:57

Made me Sad and Angry. Someone posted on the ed fb group, there's a 100 too!

Blatherskite · 02/06/2015 18:14

He wants £40 for the 100 shirt too!

Really Sad that someone would sell one.

cinnamongreyhound · 02/06/2015 19:36

Me too and also that someone would buy one, I wouldn't want one without earning it!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 02/06/2015 19:54

Yes, I agree.

The club I used to run with when I lived overseas gave out t-shirts for every single race, but there was a strong culture of not wearing it until after the race (instead you wore the previous year's version if you had one Smile).

I know. They're free for gods sake!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 02/06/2015 21:59

I can understand wanting to replace one that you have lost or worn out, but not to just buy one instead of earning it. But thinking about it, they don't wear out that fast, and by the time the 50 wore out you'd have your 100 anyway - the gap would be from 100 - 250.

I thought I had lost my NY marathon top a few months ago when I left my running bag on the train, and was more upset about losing that than the prospect of having to fork out a couple of hundred quid to replace my trainers, garmin and other stuff. As it happened, it was a different top AND I got my bag back anyway so it was all fine in the end Smile but I no longer take that top to work in case I lose it for real Grin

I am marshalling at SA this weekend with DD (who is 4). I haven't volunteered before but am doing Whipsnade 10k on Sunday so am resting legs.

Hopefully DD won't get too bored. I will take my phone just in case.

cinnamongreyhound · 04/06/2015 21:10

I'm hoping to run this week at home Smile

Good luck with dd HalleLouja!

HalleLouja · 05/06/2015 11:04

Not sure taking DD is the greatest idea I have ever had. But they have another marshals without us.

Do they supply high vis vests? I have one but its purple.

cinnamongreyhound · 05/06/2015 13:44

Yes, we'll be certainly do! Have parkrun ones Grin

ThursdayLast · 05/06/2015 14:25

Hopefully she'll enjoy cheering people on Halle. When I marshalled with my then 18mo old, he managed to do an evil poo that I had to clean up before the first (v fast Cani-crossers) came through!

My (non-runner) sister is coming with me tomorrow. Last time we did it together was the weekend of my hen do and we nearly died, so the only way is up right???

How are you and the bun cinnamon?

cinnamongreyhound · 05/06/2015 16:22

Yes you will of course both be a million times better ThursdayLast! We are good thanks, he's coping well with all the tests/monitoring for his kidney and otherwise is doing well. I can't believe he's 8 weeks today and 12lb 7 Shock. I'm coping pretty well, tired but otherwise good thanks for asking! How's married life?

Blatherskite · 05/06/2015 17:21

Right, I'm going to say something shocking...

Nobody panic...

It'll all be OK...

I'm not parkrunning tomorrow! Shock

Wink
ThursdayLast · 05/06/2015 17:26

Are you alright Blathers????????? Shock[shockShock

And cinnamon - I'm finding it much the same as unmarried life! Though I did update DS birth certificate this morning. Not changing my name = minimum admin Smile

chutneypig · 05/06/2015 18:53

Minimum admin sounds very sensible Thursday. I made the mistake of keeping my maiden name for work and married name otherwise. It can be hideous!

I've got DS with me tomorrow. His incessant nagging makes me go faster Grin. Although I'm hoping he won't cry again because I'm too slow and make me look like an evil harridan dragging her sobbing son around with her.

Hopefully DD will enjoy clapping Halle! My DC have been keen to marshall at the junior parkrun but that's a shorter attention span.

feetheart · 06/06/2015 03:17

Halle - they have little marshals hi-vis at SA (an idea I happily nicked :)), just ask if you need to as they don't always remember they have them. Get her to clap and cheer and high-5 people, don't expect the ones at the pointy end to respond but most of the others will. Also keep her out of the way of the pointy-end runners as they are usually so 'in the zone' that they will stampede through anything in their path (including me, in the middle of said path yelling at them to avoid black ice and you know the size I am :))
Enjoy it, you get a different view of parkrun when you volunteer which adds to your whole parkrun experience.
Good luck at the zoo, that's where I met you and a few others last year. Looks like it's going to be hot again.

Blathers - are you sickening?
There has been a distinct lack of green shirts at ours so far, did the rumours of no bacon sarnies get back?

Sweepstake for when we surpass our inaugural attendance total is on and most people are going for either today or next week. It has felt like an organic growth which is lovely, seeing the community develop has actually been the best thing so far :o

Happy parkrunday everyone :)

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 06/06/2015 08:29

Happy parkrunday Smile

It is a beautiful morning here, and I had more sleep last night than I have had in weeks so today is a GOOD DAY Grin

OP posts:
cinnamongreyhound · 06/06/2015 08:45

It's gorgeous here too OhOneOhTwoOhThree! Am I'm not ill so today is a good day for me too! Although I won't comment on the sleep Wink

Hope everyone has a fab parkrun whether volunteering or running and that whatever you're doing blatherkite is equally fab to be worth missing parkrun for Smile

HalleLouja · 06/06/2015 10:25

I loved volunteering. DD was still asleep well she was up and then went back to sleep again when I left so I went alone. I loved it.

I was at the top of the mini hill before you get to the final straight cheering people on. Twas fab.

HalleLouja · 06/06/2015 10:26

Question - how does it work with getting registered as a volunteer. Do they just figure out who you are and add your volunteering credit to you? Or something else.
