New thread for parkrunners old and new.

We are a long-running thread, but very friendly - please come and say hello, and chat about PBs, tourism, progress towards tee-shirts and anyything else about parkrun Smile

Haha love the idea of aggo cheering! And all the slower runners going faster to get away from him Grin

I'm barcode scanning a few weeks later which I really like because everyone is so happy to have finished! Standing around doing timekeeping makes my back ache

holmessweetholmes · 08/05/2015 20:33

Hello Parkrunners! Room for another one? I think I've popped into a couple of threads way back, but was just reminded about it by Cinnamon on the general running thread.

I'm doing my local Parkrun up in Cumbria tomorrow. Hope it's not too rainy... Anyone else up on this neck of the woods?

ThursdayLast · 08/05/2015 21:35

Have fun holmes! Sorry I'm at the other end of the country Smile

feetheart · 08/05/2015 22:38

Holmes - always room for another one :)
Afraid I'm down south too, though not as far south as Thursday.
There is a gaggle of us in Herts, Beds and Bucks but that doesn't really help!

I'm barcode scanning tomorrow - having a go at all the roles whilst we settle down and learn how our parkrun works. It's really lovely getting to know people and watching the community develop :)

holmessweetholmes · 09/05/2015 07:36

I was down south (Oxfordshire) until recently. I was used to a nice flat course in Abingdon... Well, I suppose you could say that the Fell Foot course is flat for Cumbria! It's worth it for the views though. It's horrible weather this morning - rain and wind here.

HalleLouja · 09/05/2015 10:33

Feet how is it going?

Slow one at SA here. I need to try out Gadebridge but maybe Bank Holiday weekend.

Holmes I am one of the Herts bods. Never been to Cumbria.

holmessweetholmes · 09/05/2015 10:39

Oh you're missing out, HalleLouja! It's cold, wet and miles from anywhere, but amazingly beautiful. The downsides for running here are that a) there's pretty much no such thing as a flat run and b) it's hard not to stop all the time to marvel at the views Grin.

cinnamongreyhound · 09/05/2015 10:41

I was late Blush caught up with tail runner and on my watch I beat last weeks time by 12seconds. I fitted in my 50 t-shirt and the sun came out!

Well done cinnamon.
Today was one of those unenjoyable parkruns. Probably because DS has been a bit poorly so no one is allowed to sleep properly. Oh well, that's the beauty of parkrun - there's always next time Smile

feetheart · 09/05/2015 12:12

Brilliant Cinnamon :)

Going really well here thanks Halle - lots of happy, returning runners, lots of first timers, lots of people keen to volunteer and a lovely community developing. Happy, happy ED :o

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 09/05/2015 16:02

Well done cinnamon, in to see you over here holmes. Glad it's going well feet. Where is Gadebridge Halle, haven't heard of that one.

I am a bit Angry to have missed parkrun this morning - I had an OU tutorial at 10, so couldn't fit in parkrun first, only the other tutor (we were combining two groups today for exam preparation) told her group we were starting at 10:30 so I could have gone to parkrun after all. Having said that, it's been a really busy couple of weeks, so the extra couple of hours sleep this morning probably did me good. I also accidentally left my favorite trainers at work yesterday, and my spares got left out in the rain so I can't even go and do a freedom run until they dry out.

Tat should be "nice", not "in" holmes Smile

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 09/05/2015 16:03

That

See what all that extra sleep did to me Smile

Gadebridge is in Hemel - inaugural was last week.

MelanieCheeks · 09/05/2015 17:43

Darn it. Did my 20th different event at Limavady this morning, and have been waiting all day for the result, and to see if I get a special email or anything. But they've just said on their Facebook page that the scanners weren't working this morning, and they'll have to input the results manually. This going to ages, isn't it Sad

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 09/05/2015 18:08

Ahhhh, thanks feet no wonder I hadn't heard of it Grin

Melanie how frustrating Smile

Looking at my parkrun's results this morning something must have gone wrong because everyone got 59:59 again Grin

feetheart · 09/05/2015 18:55

Oh dear, seems like gremlins are out and about today.
Glad they didn't visit us, inputting 165 results manually doesn't sound like a fun way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

We had a new concept introduced to us (and possibly all of parkrun) today - PB cake :o
No idea what she would have done with the cake if she hadn't got a PB but she did and the cake was lovely. I am now plugging it as the only way to celebrate a PB :o

ThursdayLast · 09/05/2015 19:08

But how did she know? My PBs are always a massive surprise!

Penrise had steamed up scanners today apparently - gremlins indeed

BuggersMuddle · 09/05/2015 21:37

Hello. I am a new parkrunner, so thought I would join the thread. We have a new local park run a short walk from the house, so DP and I have started going a few weeks ago. I have a 10k in June and we're both doing the Men's Health later in the summer.

Today's park run was completed despite wine last night but it showed on my time!

Sub-30 mins is the goal, but I managed that once in my 20s so am not expecting it to happen next week.

Loving the atmosphere though because tbh, I actually don't like running that much (on my own), but in a group it's a totally different thing.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 09/05/2015 21:50

Welcome BuggersMuddle Smile well done on your post-wine parkrun Smile

feetheart · 09/05/2015 22:36

Welcome BuggersMuddle - it's a bit addictive this parkrun lark...beware :)
It's also lovely being at the start of a new parkrun, people coming together and building a community of like-minded souls - I may be a little evangelical at the moment :o
You're not in S Beds are you?

ThursdayLast · 09/05/2015 23:27

Hi Buggers!

karatekimmi · 10/05/2015 06:30

Well done mel on your tourism!! I always get annoyed when you have to wait for results!! They shouldn't be so efficient the rest of the time!! I'm forever checking my phone on a Saturday morning!!

Sounds good cinnamon a PBPB!!

Welcome buggers good luck with a sub 30!! It took me ages, but started at about 37 mins!

MelanieCheeks · 10/05/2015 17:47

Limavady

They did a great job of gathering whatever results they could gather from the runners, and uploaded this afternoon.

I still don't see my name on the "most events" table, but will keep refreshing!

MelanieCheeks · 10/05/2015 19:45

dedicated souls who've visited more than 20

yay, I made the list Grin
