Anyone else starting a Beachbody workout programme? (T25, insanity etc)

yumyumpoppycat · 09/01/2015 16:16

Ok so my Focus T25 box has arrived today! Costs a lot but it has 11 25 minute work outs and some stretchy exercise band things. Idea is that because I have spent a lot I will have to knuckle down and see it through for the next 2 months.

I will probably try it over the weekend and start properly on mon. I am 3 stone overweight so this is going to be a mega challenge! Has anyone else recently started something similar or a new workout dvd and want to help motivate each other?

Oh ps I did a side plank!

OP posts:
Fullsteamahead · 03/05/2015 22:37

Yumyum, well done on the side plank!!! My name doesn't sound russian because I'm married to Scotsman ;)

Boobz, watched the first video from P90X today (chest and back). Looks really good but I've no idea what to do without the pull up bar??? Shall I just use weights and try to modify that way?

Jacksterbear · 04/05/2015 12:18

Well done YouCan, you've taken the hardest step by getting started; now just to keep going!

poppy - ahead of the schedule! Good work. I am doing the opposite and falling behind, as have run out of time this morning and have relatives coming for afternoon / evening. May be no bad thing actually as toe still sore. Will try to fit in a double (luckily non-plyo!) tmrw.

Hi to everyone else. xx

Fullsteamahead · 04/05/2015 13:45

Ok, Boobz, Ive made a start on P90X even though I've not got a pull up bar, just been modifying with the Dumbbells today :)

Done Shoulders and Back and the Ab Ripper. Hardly broke sweat, felt rather underworked after some of the Insanity workouts I've been doing! Will def need to increase weights when doing this workout next week. Plyometrics tomorrow, watched a bit of it and that one looks much harder so will definitely break sweat tomorrow.

Oh, btw, I'm doing the Classic Version, not sure which one you were planning to do?

Here is my pic of post T25/Insanity hybrid :)

Omg fullsteam you look great! Amazing abs. Star

Purpleraindeer · 04/05/2015 15:59

Well done on the side plank poppy. They take strength!
Holy crap fullsteam. You look like a proper athlete! Do you have a before photo? That hybrid really did the business
So, inspired by fullsteam I went out for a run today. Was awesome. My first in 2yrs and I went straight out and ran a fast 3miles. I was amazed at how easy it felt. Good old Shaun t
Struggling with my diet at the mo. Bank hol weekend has been a festival of overeating and wine. Oh well.

spookyskeleton · 04/05/2015 16:23

fullsteam wow, you look amazing! I feel even more fat and flabby now Blush

yumyum well done on the side plank - I have to modify those every time!

I have completely pigged out this weekend - bank holidays are a nightmare! Just trying to motivate myself to do upper focus but I have had a massive lunch at a Harvester and the DC have just set up a monopoly game on my exercise mat and I don't want to move them - however, I give them about half an hour before it ends in tears and arguments and I will swoop in then Grin

Hi to everyone else - how you have all had a good bank holiday

yumyumpoppycat · 04/05/2015 17:15

Wowee full steam that is totally a proper 6 pack, defo Star

Hasn't been a great eating day here, have fell into the hovis and peanut butter but not too terrible either.

Spooky it so lovely when dc actually play together I don't blame you for not wanting to move them. My dd had a tea party on my exercise mat last week, part of me thinks eww but luckily I don't get that sweaty more beetroot!

Jackster makese total sense to leave it another day and the beauty is it is 5 days so there is a bit of flexibility or possibility of a double to catch up. Not sure if I will exercise, possibly I will so I can have rest days when I am busier this week.

Dp and I have spent the entire day wandering round the house sections of H&M, Zara, JL HoF, Habitat, Heales, and a few other random shops looking for curtains and have come back knackered and empty handed! My dc are on safari Grin

spookyskeleton · 04/05/2015 17:48

yumyum yes it is lovely but trust me, this is extremely rare in this house as the 2 of them fight constantly!! They are still going 90 minutes later...not sure how much longer I can wait before I give up and put my PJ's on Grin

Fullsteamahead · 04/05/2015 18:00

Thank you so much everybody, that's very kind! My abs in the 1st pic are contracted that's why they are so pronounced, otherwise the six pack isn't very noticeable at all. :)

My before pics are posted up the thread, page 6 or 8 maybe? I'm pretty happy with my body from top to about waist line line, but everything below navel still needs lots of work. My lower abs are rubbish (you just can't see them in the pic ), my inner thighs need some hard work and my bum desperately needs extra work too.

I'm really hoping I'm making the right choice with P90X for now, feel a bit bad leaving Shaun T for a while ;)

Boobz · 04/05/2015 18:50

Hey Fullsteam - you can use the bands instead of a pull up bar, but tbh I think you are just better off buying a 25 quid pull up bar from Argos and doing it properly

P90X is defo a very different work out from Insanity - it's not about sweat (unless you are doing the Plyo or boxing work outs) and more about strength and lean muscle building. Given you already look INCREDIBLE from the Insanity/T25, I think this will defo work for you, to make you look even better/stronger. BUT! It's not as much fun in my opinion... the main reason I am swapping up is because I have done Insanity for nearly a year so I need the change! And I think it will be easier on chemo... but don't do it for me - do it if you think you will enjoy it!

Fullsteamahead · 04/05/2015 20:41

I'll have a look at the bars Boobz. My OH said not to buy cheap expanding one as he doesn't want me to have a "You've been framed" moment :) and end up on the floor with half of a door frame!

I'll carry on with P90X and we can support each other, think you are right strength training is what I need now and I could also do with a bit of change.

Can't wait for you to join me on Thursday :)

yumyumpoppycat · 05/05/2015 09:30

Fullsteam the pull up bar dp got and failed to use, has a review that says If you want to purchase this for yourself, please check two things first:

  1. That you have a doorway in your house that is within the stated size range 68cm to 80cm (or whatever is applicable to the one you choose)
  1. That the top of your door frame is part of the whole frame or sits over the door frame sides such that a downward force applied to it will be supported by the side frames.

So if you have a solid door frame that is not too big and not too small and space to exercise on the hallway/ doorless side then a bar should be ok

I did piyo core yest - so hard, and my hear sank when I saw it was core cardio this morning. I need to have a really good session next time as I am wimping out! Hope your foot is on the mend jackster

Amazing photos Fullsteam!! Smile You must be so pleased! And I am struggling to see what you don't like about your shape from the waist down but we all have things about our bodies we don't like I guess. You have worked extremely hard for it with that insanity/T25 hybrid!

Well I have had a very indulgent weekend, still exercised but have eaten lots and lots of gorgeous food so having to reign myself back in this week - usual pattern with me but extended by a day to include the bank holiday! Did Gamma rip't yesterday which I remember being easier than it was. I can just about got my chest to the floor on modified push ups now. For the first half of the workout anyway!

Going to do Gamma Speed 3.0 later on to try and counterbalance the curry/fish n chip/chocolate/icecream feast that was my bank hol weekend.

Jacksterbear · 05/05/2015 14:39

Well done Sarah. I'm a pretty firm believer in the psychological and general well-being benefits of indulgence now and then. Grin

poppy I did for in PiYo define upper body in the end yesterday. It helped that it's only 18 mins (although Confused that the schedule describes it as 35 - did I miss something?) and didn't require a shower afterwards. And PiYo core done today. It's obviously an and week this week! PiYo is hard in a totally different way to ST's stuff, isn't it? I feel very graceless and don't get the point of a lot of the moves! Some of them feel suspiciously easy but then I think that's because my form is bad!!

Good luck with p90x, fullsteam and Boobz!

Sarahlouboo · 05/05/2015 18:51

Why thank you Jackster! I try to be aspirational! Wink

spookyskeleton · 05/05/2015 19:42

Stretch day for me today - loved it Smile

Purpleraindeer · 06/05/2015 10:54

Max cardio this am. It has oblique knee push ups which are an unpleasant reminder of tbc. I still can't do them properly but at least can envisage one day being able to do them so I guess that's progress? My legs are still stiff this am after Monday's run which feels ridiculous. It was only 30mins and felt fine at the time.

Fullsteamahead · 06/05/2015 11:40

Yumyum, thank you so much for all the info regarding the bars. I've had a look now and unfortunately all the doors in my house seem to be too wide :( Second option looks good but I'd need to save up for it!

Sarah, don't feel bad about overindulging at the weekend, I was exactly the same, in fact I didn't even bother logging food on MFP on day as I simply couldn't remember everything I ate!!!

Thanks again for all your nice words girls, I really appreciate it!

Purple, I was exactly the same after my first run couple of weeks ago, my hips and bum hurt for a few days, but it sort of felt nice, it was a good pain :) Ive not been running last week, the weather has been rubbish here (not that I should use it as an excuse ). It's also a bit of a struggle to fit a run and a workout in one day!

Boobz, look what I've found :) A P90X and Insanity hybrid. I'm very tempted to change to this now as I'm now a bit worried P90x on its own won't give me enough cardio (says the person who was sick of cardio last week, Lol). It certainly looks like a brilliant combo of strength/cardio and ab work.

Jacksterbear · 06/05/2015 18:59

Well done purple.

Annoying re the too-wide doors Fullsteam.

Beta core cardio done. Smile

Sarahlouboo · 06/05/2015 19:29

Fullsteam - I really enjoyed myself so no regrets, I trust myself to get back into the groove now!

Jacksterbear - well done. Do you still do JM every now and then?

Gamma speed 3.0 done. Evil Shock!

Boobz · 06/05/2015 20:57

Fullsteam - you legend! That looks amazing! I am SO doing that! Starting tomorrow! DH is psyched!

Back home! I stepped on the scales and was expecting the worst but was only 55.7kg! I thought I was going to be closer to 58 or something, so I am very relieved! I am aiming to get back to 51kg by the end of May.

I will take a Day 1 photo tomorrow - my ChemoCardio Day 1. By Day 60 I will be bald and hopefully as ripped as you FullSteam - have totally lost my 6 pack since diagnosis!

BRING IT

Purpleraindeer · 06/05/2015 21:38

Hello all.
I just wondered how you all get access to workouts - I just saw there is a beach body streaming service for usd 2.99 per mth. Has anyone used it? I Looked on YouTube to see if I could see any of the insanity workouts and I couldn't find much. do you all buy the DVDs?

yumyumpoppycat · 06/05/2015 23:08

Purple I bought the dvds at full price, but it really is a bit too expensive to carry on. £2.99 a month sounds like a very good price at the rate we are all going. T25 seems to sell quite well on ebay but I am a bit wary of selling on there. I would be more inclined to buy my next set of dvds second hand and hang on for a good price.

Boobz you might not lose too much hair but I think you will carry off bald and ripped if that does happen Grin A friend bought a wig during treatment but was able to get by with hats as a lot of her hair stayed and then she cut it short to blend it all in.

Rest day for me today.

Well done everyone!
