Anyone else starting a Beachbody workout programme? (T25, insanity etc)

yumyumpoppycat · 09/01/2015 16:16

Ok so my Focus T25 box has arrived today! Costs a lot but it has 11 25 minute work outs and some stretchy exercise band things. Idea is that because I have spent a lot I will have to knuckle down and see it through for the next 2 months.

I will probably try it over the weekend and start properly on mon. I am 3 stone overweight so this is going to be a mega challenge! Has anyone else recently started something similar or a new workout dvd and want to help motivate each other?

I am logging on MFP but am too embarrassed to befriend you all add my diet is so shit Blush I am trying the diet where you eat at your goal weight tdee for 5 days but I still need my exercise calories!

I would love to do just one full push-up but it just isn't going to happen. Am hoping that as the weight falls off and my arms get stronger, I will be able to manage them Grin

Speed 2.0 done - I love it!! Apart from DS2 deciding he wants to be Shaun T and kept touching me every time Shaun touches one of the people - it was a bit distracting!

Sarahlouboo · 29/04/2015 19:09

Spooky - I always use my exercise calories! In fact sometimes that is my only motivation for exercising!

Gamma pyramid done. Still a good workout but a bit less frantic than alpha and beta. Probably burning less calories though. Is it wrong to equate less sweat with less calories burnt?!

Yumyum - I will add you but my diet I crap apart from the odd day when I am feeling more disciplined. But it's good to see what other people are eating, so thank you Smile

Jacksterbear · 29/04/2015 20:29

Alpha cardio done. Proud that I still did it even though my day went a bit pear-shaped when I locked myself out of my house and had to drive s 1 hour round-trip to the nearest person with s spare key. (Lesson learned to hide one somewhere in the garden!). Anyway... It was not too bad. Think it's strength stuff I'm struggling with atm treat her than cardio.

Thanks for that link Sarah. Interesting stuff. And now that you mention it, I am eating more processed white carbs than I had been for a while, and probably less protein, which is probably not helping me feel at my best!

Poppy, Google tells me that hardcore on the floor is an extra you get only if you buy PiYo through a beachbody Coach - so yes good idea to substitute Core.

Re modifying push-ups. I had been doing them on my feet but without a full range of motion. But after seeing the recent chat on here re Shaun T's advice, I have been doing them on my knees and trying to touch chest to floor. I agree with you Poppy that that is almost impossible! My elbows just don't seem to bend that way!! Confused Confused

Sarah re sweating. I don't know the answer re burning calories but do agree it seems more satisfying and like you must have worked harder when you are dripping sweat! Grin

Hello everyone!

Sorry for the radio silence - I have been a busy lady (not doing Insanity unfortunately).

Diagnosis was breast cancer, a rather nasty kind which requires a heavy dose of chemotherapy for 6 months followed by mastectomy. I am pleased I am having the surgery at the end, as I am already 3 weeks into my 6 week ban following the lumpectomy so I can get exercising soonish... I think I will wait 4 weeks rather than the full 6, as I feel completely healed from that area, and I am turning into a lump at the moment with no Shaun T keeping my flab off! I have lost my 6 pack - argh!

I had my first dose of chemotherapy yesterday - another 15 to go. I don't feel that horrendous yet, but the nurse said it will probably hit me by Friday. The worst thing about it was wearing the "cool cap" in an attempt to save my hair (which I had all cut off on Saturday in a bid to get used to it being shorter in case it does all go, and so it's less heavy on my head pulling out weaker hair). I rather like it short now, even though at the time I had a proper America's Next Top Model episode 2 "The Makeover Show" moment, when the model is told she needs her bum-length hair reduced to a pixie crop and balls her eyes out. My hairdresser was lovely though - he got me through it - new hairstyle attached!

I am thinking about swapping to P90X 2 and some Bikram yoga over the next 3 months, instead of Insanity - just for a change up and I think it will work better with the chemo - less jumpy but still hard core.

So not long until I join you again, assuming I can work out on chemotherapy!

Have read all your posts but no time to reply now - will try to get to that after the kids have returned to Rome on Sunday (I follow on Wednesday after all clear from the doc to fly...)

Stunning selfie Boobz!!! You really suit short hair, I much prefer it to your old hairstyle!!! It's so great to hear from you and I'm glad the treatment is under way. Think you are right about choosing something less jumpy for during the treatment. Good luck, hope it all goes smoothly for you. Please keep us updated on your progress. Hugs!

Thank you everybody for your kind words yestreday, you are all so sweet!

Yumyum, you have nothing to worry about with regards to joining us on MFP, we all try to eat decently but we are all human and make mistakes with food choices (me more often than others Ha Ha!). I'm alionaear on MFP if you want to add me :)

Talking of food, I've been really struggling with my sweet tooth recently. I love sweet things, particularly cakes and biscuits. What makes matters worse is that I love baking and since I've started working out I've been trying not to bake so I wouldn't overeat. I seriously miss baking though, I find it very therapeutic.

Anyway, I did a run this morning again and then Upper Focus and Lower Focus this afternoon. For the first time I really nailed both workouts. I think all the extra jumping I've been doing on Insanity is really paying off :)

Well done everybody on working out hard this week and well done MFP girls on seriously fab diaries, you've really put me to shame with my McDonalds and cakes!!!

Fullsteamahead · 29/04/2015 22:08

Oh, sorry Yumyum, that comment about MFP was to Spooky of course! :)

yumyumpoppycat · 29/04/2015 22:29

Boobz what a beautiful picture... hope Friday doesn't hit too hard, will be thinking of you. If anyone can workout during chemo its you, but even its lovely walks and yoga you will still be totally hardcore! xx

Fullsteam as my dd would say 'I am telling you off!' Your diaries look delicious and healthy and there is surely no way you aren't burning those cals off. You are doing totally amazing and you have a 6 pack to boot! I am with you on baking though, my specialty is choc cupcakes and lets just say I make the frosting by testing and adding ingredients until its perfect! I have borrowed deliciously ella from the library, so planning to try 'healthy' baking.

Spooky please join us on mfp its just food at the end of the day, my diaries are embarrassing because I drink a spectacular amount of tea, coffee and lattes not including the ones I forget as well as other food crimes!

Jackster well done! I found alpha cardio today a lot harder than I remembered! blardy jumping jacks. Agree though strength stuff is my weakness. Such a pain locking yourself out, at least you got to catch up with your parents!

boobz lovely to hear from you but so sorry it isn't good news. Glad the treatment had started so quickly and am sure that you have given yourself the best chance you possibly can by your super-fitness Smile I also love the new haircut, it really suits you. I love haircuts like that but couldn't even contemplate it with all my chins Blush

fullsteam I will try and add you on MFP as I am among friends who will overlook the dire state excessive chocolate/sweet consumption of my diet. Just out of interest, what do you log T25 as? I am using circuit training for most of the workouts and high impact aerobics for speed 2.0.

spookyskeleton · 29/04/2015 22:38

OK, I am ceebee74 on MFP if anyone wants to add me Smile

yumyumpoppycat · 29/04/2015 22:40

Spooky add me too! I usually go for high impact aerobics. I looked up the calorie burn of t25 on google and it seems to vary really widely but 200 seems about right.

What a beautiful photo Boobz! Flipping heck, I can't begin to imagine the emotional roller coaster you must have been on over the past couple of months. I hope you can get back to exercise soon and I am certain that you are still rock hard! Good luck with the chemo and here's hoping that you don't feel too ropey tomorrow. Xxx

jemstipp · 30/04/2015 07:38

Big love Boobz xxxx

Purpleraindeer · 30/04/2015 10:30

Boobz - what a lovely photo. You are a v photogenic family! I agree, short hair looks great on you. I'm really sorry that you've had to find that out because of chemo tho. I hope you don't end up feeling too awful by the end of the week. Yoga or Pilates sounds just the ticket. I have done both and neither are easy and I ended up with fab abs.
Spooky - I felt the same re diet sharing on mfp. Actually it has made me feel better that it's not just me that has 'bad' food every so often.
I can't remember who asked, but I do full press ups except when it's the weird/super hard ones (diamonds, oblique knee, tricep etc). Obv only super humans can do those ones without modifying!! I thought you need to get your chest to within a fists width of the floor?

Did max sweat this am. OMG!! Was knackered mid way thru the warm up, maxed out at 9mims and spent the rest of the time hoping someone would come to the door or ds would do one of his mega poos so I could have a break. There was a move where you fall forwards from standing into a press up. I was scared I'd smash my face in!

Rest day tomorrow thank goodness. My whole body needs it!!

Jacksterbear · 30/04/2015 10:59

Crikey Purple that move/workout sounds scary! Shock

Booz another big fan of the new hair (and of ANTM esp makeover episodesGrin) here. Wishing you well getting through the after-effects of the chemo. Based on no medical knowledge whatsoever, but I am sure that being so strong and healthy before starting (and carrying on the exercise as much as you are able) must be a big advantage there.

spooky when I log on MFP (on and off) I usually log ST workouts as "circuit training" too.

Fullsteam impressive stuff!

Got to do Speed 1.0 today so shouldn't be too bad...

Jacksterbear · 30/04/2015 21:14

Speed 1.0 nailed. Grin
What did everyone else do today?

Fullsteamahead · 30/04/2015 22:04

Insanity Max Interval Circuit done here Jackster. I'm so glad I decided against going for a run this morning, otherwise I definitely wouldn't have managed it. 60 mins of pure Shaun T evil!!!

Last day of my T25/Insanity hybrid tomorrow! Where did 6 weeks go???!!!

Purple, please give me a review of Max 30, pros, cons, etc. I'm planning to start it on Monday but want to make sure it's what I need. I really feel like I could do with more toning/strength building and am getting a bit sick of crazy cardio. I'm happy to do cardio too but a combination of both would be great.

Yumyum, bad diary over on my MFP today, had a massive piece of chocolate cake (and when I'm saying massive I mean it was like a quarter of a cake with icing on the top) I was so stuffed for the rest of the day I could only manage light dinner!!! Well, at least my sweet tooth cravings have been satisfied for today! Lol.

Spooky, I tend to enter the exercise manually but Ive recently stopped entering the amount of burned calories as I don't want MFP to give me extra calories earned from exercise. So I usually just put 1 calorie burned.

yumyumpoppycat · 30/04/2015 23:35

Jackster I let the side down today but I will will do the friday workout tomorrow and speed 1,0 on sat Grin I have absolutely no excuse, unless totm counts.

Fullsteam I think it was one of those days when cake just had to be eaten!

OP posts:
Purpleraindeer · 01/05/2015 07:12

Yesterday was cake day here too. I went out for dinner with friends and had chocolate fondant for pudding. Yum! And wine. Was brilliant. Even had a pretty good nights sleep too. I'm feeling very cheerful today

Fullsteam - I can't believe you've finished that hybrid. It was hard. I think max30 has a good ratio of strength to cardio. Of the 10 workouts, 4 are tabata ones and these are power/strength. It doesn't use weights tho. There are 2 pure cardio ones which I find the easiest and then 4 which are a combo of both but like all Shaun t things there is a def slant towards crazy cardio but with lots of press ups/planks etc thrown in. I am definitely stronger particularly in my arms and shoulders now. There is not a lot of abs work (there is a 10min abs workout which I haven't done). I really enjoy it because after every work out i feel shattered and it's only 30mins. The downside of that is that there are no easy days. I actually think my ideal program would be a t25 / max30 hybrid. If you want strength focus have you thought about p90x? I thought that was what it was all about?

No work out today. I feel a bit lost. I've got used to doing them so rest days feel odd.

Have a good day all!

yumyumpoppycat · 01/05/2015 09:19

Well done Purple enjoy your rest day!

Am waiting for carpet fitters to arrive so can't exercise ...twiddles thumbs...

Hi fullsteam - I meant to post this earlier. This girl reviewed max 30 and has a detailed run thru of each work out so you can see what it's like.

Thinking of you today Boobz.

Sarahlouboo · 01/05/2015 12:26

Hi everyone.

Rest day yesterday (I know what you mean about rest days, I feel as though I am cheating somehow). Going to squeeze in gamma circuit later.

Tried on some shorts this morning that were very snug last year. Hanging on my hips now! GrinGrin

Boobz, hope you are not feeling too crap today. I agree that your good fitness, strength and stamina must count for something!

Jacksterbear · 01/05/2015 13:39

Ooh, great NSV, Sarah.

Poppy - no worries! - looks like I will not have time to workout today so will aim to do lower focus tomorrow. Nearly through week 1 yay! Smile

Sarahlouboo · 01/05/2015 14:46

What is NSV? X

Jacksterbear · 01/05/2015 16:15

Non-scale victory! Usually either clothes-related (eg fitting into a certain size you wanted) or fitness related (eg a certain number of press-up reps)! Grin
