I use endomondo but have used run keeper in the past and know a lot of people recommend strava.

MelanieCheeks · 01/01/2015 22:32

I used to use mapmyrun, which is a free app. Now I have a garmin watch.

stilllearnin · 01/01/2015 23:25

Thank you so much for the advice. I have been doing couch to 5k plus podcasts to try to get some improvement. I had been doing as you all suggest until September when I got ill, followed by dp. I will do the speed podcast in my lunch break - I live on a hill and will work some of my intervals into that actually. I have a nice 8 and 10k route nearby, so I think I'll use those increasing my distance and walking the remainder until I have it. Good idea to run the new distance for 2 weeks and to start slower (tho I'm not fast now!)

postmanpatsnewyearresolution · 02/01/2015 06:53

So I've already dropped DP and DSD off at the airport and I'm back home instead of going straight to the gym as it doesn't open til 8am this morning. 24 hour opening does not mean a sensible opening time the day after a bank holiday apparently Sad

Guess I should run outside, since it's not cold or wet, but it is still so dark out there!

cinnamongreyhound · 02/01/2015 07:24

It's actually lovely out there, just got back from walking the dogs and it is really dark still :( blimmin winter!

Anglaise1 · 02/01/2015 10:38

Cinnamon it was really dark here this morning too, the evenings are noticeably lighter but the mornings still definitely wintery.
For any new runners this article on an 8 week post Christmas plan might be useful, if not for the plan there are some good tips on running.
7 miles this morning
84.36

cinnamongreyhound · 02/01/2015 10:59

I wish the evenings were noticeably lighter here!

Neeko · 02/01/2015 11:08

First run of the year for me and my longest run ever of 4.35. Nothing compared to some others on here but I'm feeling really pleased with myself. Smile
Total 88.36

Neeko · 02/01/2015 11:08

Oops. Can't add. 88.71. Sorry.

feetheart · 02/01/2015 11:22

Well done Neeko, enjoy that feeling. It all counts, don't get caught up with comparing yourself with others on here (or in RL), we all have our own goals/challenges/milestones/etc and they are all good :)

WiseKneeHair · 02/01/2015 11:41

Can I join? I worked up to running 10k in 2013 and then it all fell by the wayside.
Started again at the end of October, although I had to take three weeks off as I was ill.
Managed to do my first 5k yesterday in over a year, so very pleased. Grin not saying how long it took me as I was hideously slow. However, I did it and will concentrate on getting faster and running further over the Next few months.
91.81

WiseKneeHair · 02/01/2015 11:42

Oh, and I ran up a fucking big hill!

emummy · 02/01/2015 11:44

Well done wise, don't worry about the time, that's just detail!
4 miles from me, included first speed session for a few weeks so that was fun! Wore my skins calf sleeves as experiment, they felt really nice.
95.81

Blatherskite · 02/01/2015 12:07

Found you all again. Need to work out how to get my new Garmin to upload and actually do some running! and I'll be back :)

Suzannewithaplan · 02/01/2015 12:15

Did you wear the calf sleeves with full length tights Emummy?
No falling down or other problems with them? ?

Neeko · 02/01/2015 12:28

Thanks Feetheart. That was a nice thing to say Smile.

EdYouKateShaun · 02/01/2015 13:00

3.1 from me this morning. Left in the sunshine arrived home in the hail!

98.91

IKYTWTLYA · 02/01/2015 13:05

Hello, can I join you?

I "ran" for the first time ever on New Year's Eve (2.77mi) and have since downloaded a c25k app.

I was amazed at how much I enjoyed it, and surprised at how much actual running I did.

Although my legs are pretty stiff today!

Planning on going again this evening, and will stick to the app's walk/run programme.

And I bought some black leggings (tesco) yesterday, so the new kit motivation is working! I feel the need for a load of reflective bits though.

Scatlett4456 · 02/01/2015 13:15

I ran 6 miles today, desperately wantin my new gear now..come on sports direct!

Am I suppose to add the mile on?

karatekimmi · 02/01/2015 13:32

Yes scarlett just add to the last total. I have 3.5 to add from parkrun and warm up, and including IKY 2.77 I make it 105.18

I have a couple of days off and you fill 8 pages!! I'll be supporting at Liverpool half to whoever was running it - DH's first half. I was supposed to do lake Vyrnwy half last year but was injured. It was nice and flat, go for it, you've plenty of time to train!!

I'm in a weird limbo of not telling people I'm pregnant so talking to all my running friends about the Manchester marathon and I have a 9 mile training run on Sunday!! I'll be alright for a couple of weeks but by 13 miles at the end of January might be a bit much!! A few people know but it's still early days.

Sorry to hear about your FIL cinnamon I hope you are all well.

2015 resolutions
Get my 50th parkrun done - repeat from last year!! With a couple of cancels and an injury I'm on 47 so hopefully very achievable!!

Just carry on running while ever I feel well enough and get back to it as soon as I feel well enough!!

Happy new year and good running to all!!

Sirzy · 02/01/2015 13:33

Please do Scarlett that will take us over 100 miles in 2 days!

Do we think 1500 by the end of the month is a possibility?

Sirzy · 02/01/2015 13:39

Congratulations kimmi

CardiffUniversityNetballTeam · 02/01/2015 13:59

I managed six glorious miles this morning. The weather was lush, just perfect.
Tomorrow is my birthday, yay! And I have it on good authority that I might expect a Garmin! I hope I will because MapMyRun has been playing up really badly. I don't think it has accurately recorded my distance and pace once in the last fortnight!

New total is 111.1. Grin

EdYouKateShaun · 02/01/2015 14:56

Cardiff what has Map My Run being doing that makes you say it's not accurate? I in use it and I'll not be happy if it's not being recording me properly!

CardiffUniversityNetballTeam · 02/01/2015 15:26

The GPS is wildly all over the place Ed. It told me earlier I'd run 23km in 56mins!! I'm not sure that's even physically possible! When I look at the map on the screen at the end of my run it shows massive zig zag lines all over the shop. You'd definitely know if you're had been doing it too. It used to do it occasionally but now it's every run. I don't know if it just doesn't like my new phone or what.
