Hi, I am starting training for the Edinburgh marathon tomorrow eek! Have done some 10k and half marathons before but have been doing strong lifts 5x5 for past few months so have done no cardio during this (recommended not to) and am a bit nervous to get back out there

What are people's 2015 running goals?

I'll join in.

I started c25k in early October and finished it just before Christmas. Looking go build up my stamina from now and have entered a 10k race in April.

Doing my first parkrun tomorrow Grin

I can add my run yesterday to the December total - 3.1. Managed it in just over 31 mins so pleased with my progress so far.

Well done Mayvis that makes it 961.5 I think.
Good luck in Edinburgh Swallowed I will be doing my first half marathon there, am excited and a wee bit nervous. Have finished 2014 on a high with pb for 5k so the only way is up! Have a 10k booked at Balmoral for April and the half in May but nothing else as yet as waiting to see if I like half marathons. If I do, the one at Crathes castle is a 10 minute walk from my door so would like to do that.
Welcome to all newcomers, hope you enjoy your running. This is a great place for motivation, support and answers to running questions!

Hi - can I join you?! I measure in KMs rather than miles, so not sure how easy that will be to tally up. J started C25K in early Oct, and this week hit 100k (accumulated!) since graduating.

Am doing a 10k run in Feb, and did my longest non-stop run two days ago, at 7.5k.

I'm delighted with myself - never thought I would be a runner, but am really addicted now, and love that I can now run 5k and enjoy it, instead of dying and gasping.

Thursday - thanks for new thread

Arken - there is no wrong side of 50 Xmas Smile.
I would also suggest checking out your local running club - they often do beginners courses. It took me over 5 years of running on my own before I joined ours this summer and I really wish I had done it years ago - it's friendly, supportive, very inclusive and very motivating (i.e. people will ask after me if I don't turn up and then give me a hard time when I say that it was too cold/too dark/I couldn't be bothered/etc Xmas Grin)

Sulking today as it was really too icy to go out on my own at 8am and too late to go out with others at 9am. I'm getting twitchy and need to run - hopefully a NYD parkrun and brunch will help.

Can I join?

I've been slacking a bit since running my first half in October. It kept me really motivated but afterwards I felt flat.

Just signed up for another half next October and a 10k at the beginning of Feb.

Went out and did 5 miles yesterday.

Oh can I join - my tummy is like a blancmange at the moment and I've just stopped breastfeeding after an epic 27 months! I've never run before but my brother tells me I have a great build for it.

Morning all

Thanks for new thread and welcome newbies. Sat up late last night waiting for DP to wake up so we could go to bed then gave up about midnight and went alone. Consequently woke up too late this morning to get to the gym before I take the DC out (DSD plus a borrowed 5yo to keep her company!) and since it closes at 3pm today there won't be another chance. Might have to brave the cold!

cinnamon sorry to hear about FIL. It's always sad when grandparents pass on before getting the chance to meet a new baby. DP is 50 and I'm 46 and we still have all of our parents, fortunately.

ham I second roll on 2015...if I tell you that my sister being diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer isn't the worst of it, that will give you some indication of how dire 2014 has been.

Good morning runners, and great to see so many old and new faces Smile. Welcome to new runners, I too am a C25K graduate. In fact DS2 just pointed out that my top is from a 5K race on 5/11/11, which was my first ever "proper" 5K. Starting running and joining my local parkrun has changed my life, I have met new friends and am fitter than I have ever been.

It's a lovely morning here, to sunny to be indoors. I am taking myself out for a while, despite my IT Band complaining a bit now that I am running more than once a week again.

Here's to an excellent 2015 - I too will be glad to see the back of this year, although next year looks set to be "interesting" as well. Looking forward to lots of running chat and smashing the 1000 mile barrier!

Back from a cold, frosty 2 hour run, so I have 12.5 miles to add to the total. Only meant to do 90mins but it is such a beautiful morning it seemed a shame not to continue. Plus I will have earned tonight's food and drink.
Arken agree there is no age for running. I only took up seriously 16 months ago and am faster than a lot of younger people in my club (there are older faster runners than me too). Age = endurance even if it doesn't equal speed!

postmanpatsnewyearresolution dh is almost 49 but his dad was an old dad when he had him, he was 87 but still going strong so it's still been a shock. Sorry to hear about your sister!

So lovely to see all the new runners, welcome everyone!

My 2015 goals Sirzy are to keep going as long as I can and to hopefully be up to my clubs 10k time trial by December :) gives me 8months so not too tough a challenge!

My goal is to complete my 10k in April in under an hour.

Longer term aim is to run a marathon in 2016.

Running goals for 2015?
Mine is to hold back and not overdo it distance wise, it's going well for me and I don't want to ruin it! ?

Suzannewithaplan · 31/12/2014 11:45

Oh and foam rolling, I want to get a foam rolling regime going!
When is best? Post run??

I don't have any particular speed ambitions I accept that I'll never win any races, I'm happy just to be running:)

Anglaise1 · 31/12/2014 11:47

My running goals, to try and improve current times, so get below 46mins for 10k, 1h43 for half, do my first marathon in March (finish preferably, ideally with a time of under 3h45mins) and do the Lac Guerladan trail race of 64kms in the summer.
Most important aim is to stay injury free!

AggressiveBunting · 31/12/2014 12:19

I will never admit this in RL but I would love to make podium once this year, if only in the veterans (40+). More realistically, I'm looking for Top 10 in my first 50k and top 15 in the second (trail running has a thin field so where you place depends largely on who shows up and top 10 means top 10% usually- not like the London marathon where you're doing well if you come in the top 1000). That said, there are a few people who I feel I could beat who I'm not beating at present. Also aiming not to break anything (limbs) and to sort out my race hydration/nutrition - currently have a persistent cramping issue around the 30k mark.

Hi, can I join? I started c25k on Jan 3 lady year and did 2 10k races in April then found out I was pg with DC2. Being induced tomorrow! Then as soon as I feel able I will start on c25k again.

My goals will be to complete c25k in the recommended 9 weeks, then get back to 10k and get under an hour for that distance before NYE 2015.

I am moving to Yorkshire in Feb and will join a running club there to help.

Does anyone have any experience of getting back into running after childbirth? How long did it take?

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 31/12/2014 12:40

I set out to do 5, and even turned round at 2.5 miles (trying not to overdo it), but was having such a nice time I went off-road on my way home and ended up doing 7. 984.5 there must be another 15 miles floating around somewhere between us Grin.

Goals for 2015 - run 3 times a week, get back under 30 mins for 5k, closer to an hour for 10K and a few more HMs under my belt.

Mitchy1nge · 31/12/2014 12:49

ah nothing beats thinking about running goals as an antidote to the horribleness of everyday life

main aim is same as every year, keep a consistent weekly mileage of between 15 and 25 miles - my body likes that volume - apart from in the build up to half marathons. Recently has gone from 30+ to below 10 and it leaves me out of sorts mentally.

ideally would get on top of nutrition (and sleep and everything else) so I can maintain a higher mileage for longer (without injury, crankiness, too much weight loss) and do a full marathon next autumn, that would be great but I will settle for less
