That's what puts me off running with others Suzanne

Hi, I'd like to join you all. I have several 10k runs, a three day fell event and a Tough Mudder planned for this year.

I am not a runner so I'd better learn pretty fast. Grin Can I add my two miles from today? Am I allowed?

Just joined. I am an older (61, almost 62) runner, although have exercised pretty consistently most of my life. i started the C25K in early 2013 and finished late 2014, having allowed life, work etc to get in the way. Am pretty slow (4.6K in 30 mins) and it is not easy but I love it. Walking now bores me - at the beginning anyway!

I hope to build on my current runs, run 3 times a week and to do some longer runs. I live in Spain and work away quite a bit so parkruns and running clubs are out, sadly.

Am super glad to be here and look forward to being a part of this group.

I don't understand all the rah-rah-rah about HIIT for fat burning when the workout is for such a short time it can only use glycogen - the long slow run uses up fat because that's all there is eventually

think that is in response to something else somewhere else Blush

Sorry to hear about your sister postmanpat

LOVE how many new and returning faces are on this thread already... I think we'll be able to smash our 1000 December miles this month if everyone's resolutions go to plan!

Didn't parkrun this morning as I ended up staying over at the party I went to last night. Really want to go on saturday though. I'm hoping that it will be a good alternative to a running club as you get to know people and it gets you in a routine, but removes the pressure (for me) of running at the same pace as them!

there's so much conflicting into about exercising at different intensities and it all gets very complex what with aerobic threshold, lactate threshold etc.

Horses for courses, imo

Ladies, I'd like to join please.

I also decided to start my new year with some shiny new kit from sport direct, I figure it's cheaper than gym membership Smile

I'd like to add 5 miles, I usually run 15 miles a week or so, I'd like to increase it a bit.

Hello again. Been here before under another name Smile

Targets for 2015. Get below 30 mins for 5k regularly. Since I turned 50 I've slowed by about 15secs a km and can't seem to get it back.
Also to run 10k more often.

Have done 3.5 miles this morning and now I'm off to treat myself to some new running shoes in the sale.

I'd have liked to run today, it's a weight training day but my gym is shut, I promised myself I'd stick to only running every other day at least for a month.
So I'm having a no exertions whatso ever day

Hello ladies can I join in?

Been running off and on for years but Nov 2013 started seriously losing weight and since then have been running every other day (alternate with swimming).

Did my first 10k last April then another in Sept, April time was 1hr 1min and Sept time 56 mins. Grin

Target for 2015 - a 12.5k run round a local reservoir in May plus a sub-1hr time in the April 10k (the sept course is notoriously flat = good chance of pb so I am unlikely to beat that).

I tend to measure in km - been running over festive season tho ice and snow has been a pain, but all clear now and have done a brill 8.2k this am which is about 5.1 miles I think so we are at 57.2m

Hello, I wanna play too!
Did couch to half marathon between April and October 2013, then very intermittent to non existent between then and now.
Have entered Liverpool half marathon in June 2015. Set my training plan on Endomondo and as soon as I get up of this chair, I am heading out for my first run of the year.
I have 48 pounds to lose this year so hoping this will help Smile
Be lovely to havebsome inspiration and support!

Mitchy
I like the 80:20 model of training advocated by Matt Fitzgerald.
running.competitor.com/2014/08/training/train-like-pro_111078
There have been a lot of studies which show that athletes perform best when they adhere to 80 long slow training and 20% moderate/fast.
There is still a lot of HIT with this model, as you can only do it for a short period. But the long slow training should make up the vast majority of your work out.
My coach prefers the 65:35 ratio sadly! I like my long slow runs, but know the interval training is essential for cardio strength and speed. I'd just rather there wasn't so much of it.

I just started to get fitter when I was losing weight and now I run for my mind more than my body so don't pay a lot of attention to fat/calories burned although I'm a lot hungrier on days I run.

It's lovely to see so many new people Smile

I actually had a lady seem shocked today when I said I was having my third boy, she did say 'and you ran' afterwards so perhaps the shock was at me being at parkrun not at me being pregnant but I've spent the day paranoid that perhaps I do look like I'm gaining weight rather than pregnant Confused

I did c25k and myfitnesspal in January 2012 GertyD and lost 35Kg in 8 months. Took me a good 4 months after I reached my goal to stop loggin on mfp but I know have a good idea of what I'm eating and until I got pregnant had maintained my weight loss, so highly recommend it as a way to lose weight. I loved that I could still eat what I wanted with calorie counting but if I treated myself I had to eat less of something else. I hugely reduced my portion size and realised I'd actually been eating around 3,500 calories a day Shock

I was in capris and short sleeves today Mitchy1inge, definitely milder!!!!!

I love HIIT, the pace of it, the variety of exercises, the social aspect, makes a change from the solitary plod. Today is a total wash out weather wise here, and gym is closed, so no run.

Loving reading about everyone's goals and running plans. Mine are more vague, just to make sure I do run regularly, in the knowledge that will help me, mentally, to achieve my other vague resolutions of getting to grips with my new job, being a better parent and all round nicer person...
