when a runner goes down other runners stop to help and offer their food, drink, salt etc. When a runner goes down on a road race other runners run over them.

So true- leave no man behind! And don't sprint past someone who's limping over the finish line with their foot at a funny angle cos that's a bitch move Grin.

Started running 18 mths ago, interrupted by two unexpected operations, last one in October.
Now feel well enough to start again, so my running goals for 2015 are:

5k in under 35 mins
Complete a 10k (maybe Race4Life?)
Run 3 times a week, including ParkRun.

This thread is really motivational!

Happy 2015 runners. I have some similar goals to others.

5k in 30 mins (32 yesterday but 1st run in a month I think and it was slippery)

Increase to 10k (a few years ago I used to do that in less than an hour but just to get to it in 2015 will be great)

Realistically I need to lose weight. I've got a kind of athletic build I suppose so a largeish frame but lugging 13 stone around is not helping! Also I've still got a dodgy heel. I can't accept I have to rest more. It could be plantar but also feels like a possible stress fracture- maybe both??

Good morning, new to the thread and looking for motivation for my running goals this year:

To get my 5k time below 30 minutes.
To follow this with a 10k time of just under the hour too.
to complete my first half marathon on 1st March - yet to set my time goal - but thinking would like it to be under 2 hours 30.

Have had a break over Christmas, so need to get the running shoes on Saturday morning for park run.

There's a 5k/10k 'fun run' today locally - off road up and over a huge hill so am giving it a miss - my feet prefer road running and I don't fancy starting the year with an injury as I have a weak ankle at the best of times!

Happy new year runners. I am pleased after my awful end to 2014 to be able to offer the first miles of 2015. Only 2.6 miles but its better than nothing, did a 20 minute Davina workout before I went out too so started 2015 as I mean to go on!

Great start to marathon training. Had curry last night to celebrate Hogmanay, wondered if chicken was a little bit pink but thought it was probably the sauce. After vomiting all night I don't think I will be running today, should have worn my garmin when sprinting for the toilet!

Arriving to add an unexpected 3.1 miles as new year walk delayed due to hungover husbands. Grabbed the opportunity for a cheeky run Grin.

Happy New Year everyone - bring on 2015!

So we are at 5.7

Re motivation - all the running gadgets and apps have really deepened my obsession motivated me.
I use a garmin with a Mio heart rate monitor, sometimes a garmin foot pod, and upload to garmin connect and sporttracks.mobi

Also started listening to running podcasts, often whilst running ?for a sort of 'meta' experience :o

Hello. Can I join? I am a bit of a sporadic 5k runner as I tend to let life and lack of childcare prevent me from getting out but I really enjoy it when I go. I'm going to do my first run of 2015 tomorrow morning.
My goals for this year are to run more regularly, gradually increase my distance and take part in my first 10k.
Hoping this thread will keep me motivated to get out there.

Parkrun to add from me too. Crumpets and apple juice afterwards had better effect than McDs :)

Need a shower then SportsDirect is calling :)
(got a half-price Elf onesie plus some £1 Christmas hats, gloves and ear-muffs yesterday - Christmas runs/volunteering for next year sorted Xmas Grin)

Place marking, my.running was really haphazard last year so this year my aim is to run consistently and to help with that I have signed up for a half marathon at the end of April. I blame my sister for that.

I am.hoping it will help me lose 10lb and tone up for my wedding.in may. I have a plan all drawn up and stuck up ready. Am visiting parents at moment but.hoping to get a quick run in this eve depending when we get home, or tomorrow before dp goes to work.

?I have found running the best thing for keeping bodyfat down 5madthings.

When I recently upped my mileage my weight dropped quite alarmingly, I had to make an effort to eat more!

Well done on reaching 1000 - I won't take any credit as I'm only responsible for about 20 of them!

My running goals - minimum 3x week, do another half (probably Richmond on 22 March) and raise £500 for breast cancer charities (my sis has stage 3 and only found once it had already reached that stage).

How do I find a local running club? I've mentioned it to DP several times and he always says he'd rather run alone outside (or we have adjacent treadmills in the gym!) but I think it would do me good to run with others. My last HM was 2:12 and I would like to get under 2:10 next time.

Suzannewithaplan · 01/01/2015 13:35

My other half says he wants to run with me, I can't see how it would work since his very slow jog is my flat out sprinting speed.

I have never tried running with other people! ?
