Bargain! I have size 5 feet but need size 6 for running shoes so no good for me!

5madthings · 04/01/2015 18:21

I know I could get a pair for £25!! Reading the specifications they have all the same features etc. They are normally £50 for the junior so still cheaper than adult ones but they are currently in the sale. God for that price I may just order them. It seems crazy though. There are more choices colourway in the women's ones but for the price I don't mind compromising on colour!

5madthings · 04/01/2015 18:25

Reading the reviews it seems other women are buying the junior range due to cheaper prices and they say they are fine! Why did I not think of this before, I regularly buy other kids shoes, my hunter wellies are kids ones and so we're loads cheaper. It's ironic I can get kids shoes vat free for myself but the three eldest madthings all need adult sizes.

Neeko · 04/01/2015 18:32

I was the same as you at school 5madthings. I hated PE unless it was swimming and I allowed myself to be convinced I wasn't sporty. I joined a gym before I had the dc but tended to walk on a treadmill at an incline because I thought I couldn't run and spent a lot of time in the pool. I took up running because it was the only thing I could think of to do after having kids that fitted in with my husband's unpredictable hours. I'll never set the world on fire with my speed or distance but I still feel really proud of myself every time I run. Smile

Sirzy · 04/01/2015 18:34

I loved pe at primary school hated it at secondary mainly due to the teacher. There is a public footpath through the school grounds near the pe field and I am often tempted to run past and stick two fingers up to the teacher who said I was useless but I won't

TheIncidentalGoat · 04/01/2015 18:38

Slow 4.35 for me today so 294.65

It was bloody freezing!

Sazorchard31 · 04/01/2015 19:00

2.5miles from me tonight to add.very cold out there! Brrrr.

Now to keep reading this thread as it makes me go out as otherwise I feel lazy.

cinnamongreyhound · 04/01/2015 19:23

I use an endomondo app on my phone or my garmin watch EElisavetaofJingleBellsornia, both you gps to track you. You use the mapmyrun website when you get back to check your distance if you know which route you took too.

I found it hard to keep motivation through morning sickness but it was so worth it karatekimmi! Well done on getting out for 9 miles, that would make many people cry off Wink

Well done actiongirl1978, that's some chunk off your pb!

Remind me not to upset feetheart, that was a scary speech Wink

postmanpatsnewyearresolution · 04/01/2015 20:03

I haven't run this weekend but I have finished a 3,500 word essay for my MA, which is putting a bigger smile on my face than even a run could do right now! I think my Fitbit is assuming I'm dead as I've barely moved in the last three days.

I did manage 4 miles on Friday morning before I got stuck into my books so 298.65 so far.

I did research running clubs but the nearest ones are Richmond (impossible parking and a faff on the bus) or Ealing (twat exH lives there and is also a runner so I wouldn't risk it in case he has joined). Wish there was one nearer.

Anyone else in the London area entered a half for this spring? I haven't decided which one to do yet.

I've just got a new pair of shoes too, they are Brooks, although I usually get Asics. They are sort of purple so I've ordered a new pair of co-ordinating elastic laces as I only have black and white laces so far Blush

IKYTWTLYA · 04/01/2015 20:05

So, 294.65 + 2.5 from Saz and 2.5 from me is 299.65.

Mine was week 1 run 3 of C25K and it wasn't as enjoyable as the first two!

Anglaise1 · 04/01/2015 20:05

Actiongirl well done for knocking 3m30s off your 10km time that is huge!
Apophenia every distance is important and you don't know what you can do until you try. I ran 5km every other day for a year and never thought I'd be able to do 10kms until I joined a club and found it wasn't that hard. From then on you build up the mileage. But you need the time, too, and that isn't easy for a lot of people. Especially women with jobs and families to look after. Running is my escape valve.

IKYTWTLYA · 04/01/2015 20:06

X-post: 298.65+5 is 303.65

Well done all!

MontserratCaballe · 04/01/2015 20:18

May I join please? I am just starting bridge to 10k and am really enjoying it. I ran 4 miles this morning, although I am as slow as a snail, and am probably not going to get out again til the end of the week

EdithDickie · 04/01/2015 20:36

Hi GirlOutnumbered

Only just dipped my toe in to moor running so just wore my trainers.

Am a Dartmoor girl - Bodmin Moor is a mystery to me! My Christmas running was around the Yelverton area and today I went around Burrator Reservoir which was lovely Smile

EdithDickie · 04/01/2015 20:36

I love your nickname Montserrat Grin

EdithDickie · 04/01/2015 20:38

6.81 miles for me over the weekend. That plus Montserrat's 4 brings us to (I think!) 314.46

LaughingM · 04/01/2015 21:40

2.6 from me (which I've been putting of aaaaaall weekend). Actually looking forward to going back to work tomorrow in some ways as I'm hoping it'll get me back into a more regular running pattern.

317.06

newdaytomorrow · 04/01/2015 22:56

went out and ran 5 miles of sandy hills this afternoon so that makes 322.06

CheeseBored · 05/01/2015 00:44

I did just under 3 this morning - it was very foggy and I nearly slipped over on the ice, but it was great. I like feeling hot and cold at the same time.

JapaneseMargaret · 05/01/2015 01:00

I haven't logged in for a while. First day back at work today, and I meant to get up early to go for a run, but after a week of semi-lie ins, it wasn't happening!

However, my runs since the 28th - 3.2k + 7.5k + 3.2k + 6k.

AggressiveBunting · 05/01/2015 02:36

Right, so 322.06 at last tally + Cheese's 3 = 325.06 plus 12.4 from JM = 337.5

Plus me:4 miles this morning = 341.5

Had that thing where you wake up, it's dark and you check your phone thinking it's about 1am and it's actually 5.18am and the alarm's going off in 2 mins. The temptation to just turn it off was almost overwhelming, but my gym names and shames no-shows on FB/Twitter, so that and the need to add to the tally on this thread got me vertical and into my trainers. Wasn't too bad once I was out of the door.

itsveryyou · 05/01/2015 03:55

Hi, just discovered this group, would love to join! Been running on and off for years, nothing beyond a slow 10k but am soon to do a half marathon (March 1st) so am trying to up the miles so I don't actually die on the day. I'm relatively fit through various forms of exercise, but am currently struggling to run beyond about 5 miles without wanting to give up. Does anyone have advice on training for a half marathon? Thanks!

kiwikaterpillar · 05/01/2015 06:40

Hi all... I have been reading this thread with interest and you have all inspired me to start running. My DD is 1 now and I am so unfit but want to get fit before we TTC later this year. I did my first C25K run today and I am so proud of myself. Before hand I thought there was no way I'd be able to do it but including a warm up walk and walk to cool off at the end I managed to do 4.98km of walk/jog intervals in 37mins. The best thing is I am now buzzing... have just signed up for a 14km fun run/walk in march- if I could run for half the distance and walk the rest I'd be super happy so that's my goal for after finishing C25k.

Anglaise1 · 05/01/2015 06:52

tsveryyou there are a lot of half marathon training plans on the internet. I would strongly recommend doing at least one 10k race before your HM during the preparation, preferably a month before your HM. Otherwise gradually do longer outings and try and do one of 10 miles before your race. And taper off your training the week before your race so you are fresh and not tired. I never take any nutrition supplements for a half marathon, just water, but some people do.
Regarding the week before the race, some people carb load (Tues - Fri, it isn't any good stuffing yourself with pasta the day before a race) but again it isn't a long race so I'm not sure it is really necessary.
One thing that I always do it to drink a lot of water the week before so as to be as hydrated as possible during the race. That really helps me.

GertyD · 05/01/2015 07:19

341.5 + my 2 miles just done = 343.5 Grin
