Well...nearly!

Thread for all running chat, no matter how fast or how far you run Smile

OP posts:

I like mapmyrun though as it gives me a breakdown of my speed etc by km and as it can all be saved I can track my progress. It's quite interesting looking back on over a year's worth of runs :)

GertyD · 04/01/2015 15:17

Ahhh thanks. Also apologies for the appalling maths Blush

karatekimmi · 04/01/2015 15:17

I have had a busy weekend running!!

3.5 parkrun and warm-up taking me to 48 parkruns, only 2 more to go!!

then onto a really muddy crosscountry run with my club, 4 miles although it felt like more. My DH did 6 miles and it nearly destroyed him!! poor thing!!

Then onto marathon training for 9 miles this morning, which I nearly cried off as I felt really rough morning sickness, but as I had a babysitter sorted I felt I had to, and I did feel good afterwards, but ive now eaten crisps 3 packets, left over curry, chocolate, biscuits too many to count Its seems that nausea is linked to blood sugar levels!!

Back to work tomorrow for a rest!!

277.76 including orange

Aren't strides when you sprint with high knees? not sure at all really, but I would read it as 6 short (20m) sprints where you try to run fast but high?

5madthings · 04/01/2015 15:17

And mapmyrun is free. As long as you have an android type phone with gps you can just download a free app.or there are things like fitbit or gps watches etc.

karatekimmi · 04/01/2015 15:20

or you can map out your route on mapmyrun on the computer by plotting your route.

5madthings · 04/01/2015 15:20

Bloody hell karate that's a lot of running! I always found eating helped my sickness in pregnancy but it was carrs water biscuits I ate as they were all I could stomach.

EElisavetaofJingleBellsornia · 04/01/2015 15:44

Thank you, will have a look at checkmyrun. DH has suggested strava?

Sirzy · 04/01/2015 16:11

I use runkeeper just because it is what a running friend suggested when I started

IKYTWTLYA · 04/01/2015 16:18

I'm new, so not really qualified to advise.

I use Strava as DH is a cyclist and uses it, and so do several friends (including one I run with) so I use it for both (the odd occasion I actually get on my bike).

It also links into the iOS Health App, which I quite like. And can be started from the pull-down notifications.

Lidl have got LED arm bands and trainer lights, btw!

Apophenia · 04/01/2015 16:21

Very impressed with those who just casually drop in an 8/9
miler. Puts my three miles to shame. Blush

actiongirl1978 · 04/01/2015 16:33

Afternoon all!

I can't keep up with this thread any more, but all the enthusiasm is infectious - well done to all the new runners, isn't running fab?!

I am adding 6.2 miles for today, I ran the Somerley 10k in Hampshire this morning, it was a great run though not nearly enough toilets Hmm which meant the race started late.

I am also pleased to note that I got a time of 58.10 which means I have improved since October, knocking 3.30 off my first 10k time.

So mileage comes to: 283.96

HalleLouja · 04/01/2015 16:42

Apophenia every mile counts. Trust me it wasn't that long ago for me that 3 miles was a long long way.

HalleLouja · 04/01/2015 16:46

Well done actiongirl. I did similar in my second 10k. Its amazing what a bit of training can do.

HalleLouja · 04/01/2015 16:50

Just seen your post feet. Well done on the 8 miles.

feetheart · 04/01/2015 16:52

Apophenia - it does NOT put your 3 miles to shame

This isn't a competitive thread, it's a runners thread - some people are completely new and some of us old fogies have been running for ages, we all have our own goals and that's what we compete against.
The only important thing is that we are all out there running and enjoying it mostly whilst all sorts of other people are sitting on their bums :)

feetheart · 04/01/2015 16:54

Halle - next time let me know if you have a solo run, you could have come with us as we ran along the L-H cycle path so not that far away.

Nells77 · 04/01/2015 16:59

Hi would it be ok if I join? I only started running in November and I've got the bug Smile I'm still trying to get my mileage up and I didn't get much running in over christmas with work and snow! I'm hopefully getting back into it now and did 3.2 miles this morning.
I can't find the total could someone add it for me pleaseSmile

5madthings · 04/01/2015 17:10

Well done on your 10km time action I would love to get a below 60 min 10km time.

And re distances, I agree every bit counts, the point is we are out and running. The fact we can run at at all is fab, when I started with couch25km I couldn't get to the end of the road, now I can just run for half an hour even when I haven't been out in weeks. I would never have thought that I could run. Seriously though I enjoy swimming and cycling I always hated pe etc so the fact that I am running and enjoying it is amazing. All thanks to the running threads on here and a drunk night when I signed u to a woolly hug 10km!

It's my rest day today but I aim to be up early tomorrow for a run.

HalleLouja · 04/01/2015 17:28

Feet I pm-ed you my contact details. Am definitely keen to join you.

CardiffUniversityNetballTeam · 04/01/2015 17:29

283.9

I was out bright and early this morning and crikey it was cold!
I was testing out my Garmin that I got for my birthday for the first time. Grin
I only had time for a quick 3.2 before work so with that and Nell's 3.2 the new total is 290.3.

5madthings · 04/01/2015 17:39

Wow almost 300 miles in less than a week!

Do we have a goal?

Btw does anyone here have small feet? I am a size four and.currently wear ladies saucony ride 5, have been looking at getting another pair and realise.they do a junior range which are available in size 4 and.half the price! Is there any reason why the junior ones whicb look just the same would not.be Ok?!

Nells77 · 04/01/2015 18:01

I've got size 3 feet and wear size 4 mizuno's 5madthings I was fitted at a running shop and I'm sure they are juniors. They weren't cheaper that the others though Confused

5madthings · 04/01/2015 18:07

Am looking online and they are way cheaper! No vat for one thing! I can't see any difference they still have the same pro grid sole etc. I love my saucony ride 5's have never had so much as a blister. The ride 7 seem the new version. Am going to go into my local running shop to try a few on and then order online. Last time I bought them from the local independent running store but I can't justify those prices when I can get them half the price online.
