Well...nearly!

Thread for all running chat, no matter how fast or how far you run Smile

OP posts:

4 miles form me this morning, nice easy recovery run.

So that's 202.2

Anglaise1 · 04/01/2015 12:09

Not sure it is good to run every day - having a day off in between runs means the muscles have time to repair. I run 4 or 5 days a week usually, but at least one of those is an 'easy' run, not too long (no more than 10k), with no speed work.
Regarding running when ill, if you have a cold it is OK to run if it's in your head, but can be dangerous if it is in your chest. For other illnesses listen to your body and don't force yourself if you don't feel 100%.
9.2 miles from my club training session this morning (50 minute warm up then 8 circuits in the woods and mud - good preparation for cross country race next Sunday)
207.4

Anglaise1 · 04/01/2015 12:10

Whoops, crossed with Melanie, so total now
211.4
We are all too active!

Swallowedbyasnake · 04/01/2015 12:24

I only joined the thread on Hogmanay and then got food poisoning but dragged myself out of bed today and ran a very slow 3.4 miles to start my Edinburgh marathon training. So thatvtakes the total to 214.8

Mitchy1nge · 04/01/2015 12:32

it is definitely one of the 9 or 15 Laws Of Running - do the least amount necessary to achieve your goals

can't remember many of the others except the first two - the consistency ethic, flexibility with training (as in not sticking to a rigid plan, use intuition and respond to how you feel rather than physical flexibility)

Mitchy1nge · 04/01/2015 12:48

Arthur Newton's original 9 laws should be googlable but Lore Of Running (bible!) lists 15:

  1. train frequently, year round (not always at same volume)
  2. distance first, speed work later and sparingly
  3. start gradually and train gently - to begin with you want to complete your run feeling happy and tired and know that should you have to you could do it all over again
  4. alternate hard and easy sessions
  5. don't set your training schedule in stone, see how it goes and train by the week rather than the day (eg hours/miles per week overall) to accommodate weather, illness, life
  6. achieve as much as possible on minimum of training
  7. don't race when training or run at race pace above 16km
  8. specialise - tailor to specific demands of your distance or whatever
  9. base training and sharpening
10. don't overtrain 11. train with a coach (running club) 12. train the mind 13. rest before a race (tapering) 14. keep a diary of your running 15. understand holism of training
feetheart · 04/01/2015 12:53

Slightly amazed by the 8 miles I did with some running club friends this morning (several of whom are starting marathon training) Haven't run that far since half marathon in October and it felt good. Should be OK for Fred Hughes Halle which was the aim of doing that far today :)

I definitely don't run every day although sometimes the 3-4 runs I do a week seem to happen one after the other e.g. this week - parkrun yesterday, 8 miles today, club run tomorrow but then nothing until club run/speed work on Thursday. I do listen to my body quite a bit (being a 'more mature' runner) but it seems happy so far :)

222.8

EdYouKateShaun · 04/01/2015 13:11

3.2 from me today.

226

AggressiveBunting · 04/01/2015 13:12

I feel like I'm all mouth and no trousers at the moment! Looking forward to adding some miles to the total BUT I need to pass this by the running thread jury- on MWF I go to Crossfit and I run there and back, which totals 4 miles each time - can I count that or not? - it's really a warm up and cool down for Crossfit so I'm not exactly caning it, but I am still running.

Then, on TTS I do my proper runs. Have Sundays off.

feetheart · 04/01/2015 13:23

It's running, it counts :)

Sirzy · 04/01/2015 13:33

Of course it counts!

trainersandaches · 04/01/2015 13:34

3.5 from me today...

229.5

Mitchy1nge · 04/01/2015 13:35

your body will count it whether you do or not

GertyD · 04/01/2015 13:40

I just did 3.1 miles, so 229.5 + 3.1 = 333.5

GertyD · 04/01/2015 13:41

Sorry! 332.6!!!!

GertyD · 04/01/2015 14:03

Is anyone using an Endomondo training plan? I am, and tomorrow it wants me to do an easy paced run tomorrow, only a short one of 2 miles, but with 6 short strides to get the pulse up.

What does that actually mean? 6 short strides?

clary · 04/01/2015 14:27

I run every other day or very occasionally one morning then the next evening.

On the days between I swim about 24-30 lengths. Works for me. Grin

Suzannewithaplan · 04/01/2015 14:29

Gerty I make that:

previous total 229.5
Gerty-3.1
=232.6

with 10.16 from me bring it to 242.76

strides?
hmm, slang for trousers? Confused :o

HalleLouja · 04/01/2015 14:40

8 miles here makes 250.76. My longest solo run. God I missed the company.

orangeflutie · 04/01/2015 14:40

Hi can I rejoin thread please? Will try and keep up this timeSmile

This morning I managed 7 miles (gently trying to train for half in March but will try not to overdo it this time) Smile

Happy New Year to everyone.

5madthings · 04/01/2015 14:41

I am doing the bupa half marathon training plan, so four runs a week and one of the days madthing5 is at pre school I will go for a swim. Swim for an hour and do 80 lengths. Plus I am cycling school run 8-12 miles a day with madthing5 in the bike seat. On non running days am still doing 20 mins of stretching and toning exercises, some press ups etc as well. On running days I do those after my run.

After half marathon I will run three days a week probably, then sign up for another run. I need something to aim for to help keep me motivated. I tend to settle into a pattern of one short run 5-7km and two longer runs of about 10km when I am not training for a specific goal. Until I get Ill or life gets in the,way... My main goal this year other than half marathon and toning up for wedding is to be consistent with three runs a week, I feel so much better when I do!

cinnamongreyhound · 04/01/2015 14:51

GertyD, I'd say it means run a bit quicker. Faster runs mean shorter strides perhaps?

Not sure how it wouldn't count AggressiveBunting! Running is running and pace is irrelevant, 2 miles each way sounds like a blimmin good warm up to me!!

Acciosanity · 04/01/2015 14:56

3 and a half miles today. Not run since November so it was slow and steady. I'm not going to be getting your mileage up I'm afraid ?

EElisavetaofJingleBellsornia · 04/01/2015 15:13

I have done 20 minutes every day but not sure how far that is - at a run rather than a jog. How do you calculate your distance?

5madthings · 04/01/2015 15:15

I use an app on my phone, mapmyrun which uses gps to track the distance. There are various apps or you can get pedometer type things.
