Really well done locketpocket. Wow!

Wishing you all the very best for tomorrow's scary run idoallmyownstunts - I'll be thinking of you Grin I'm off to bed soon to nurse my own aching legs

ditavonteesed · 12/05/2015 08:01

locketpocket, just under 5k in 30mins? thats hardcore. well done.
I bought a new sports bra yesterday as the one I had was 8 years old, the wrong size and the fastening at the side had come off and cut me everytime I wore it. So I am on for the start of week 6 today. eekk cant believe how quickly it has gone.

ditavonteesed · 12/05/2015 11:15

w6r1 done, actually enjoyed it. I still dont want to go but I am starting to enjoy it while i am doing it as well as the lovely feeling afterwards.

locketpocket · 12/05/2015 16:51

Dita - I had to double check the distance, but it looks like I ran 4.6k in 30mins. My thighs are aching today.
I have finally bought a sports bra (thank you TK Maxx) Kidded myself for a while as I am of the poached egg variety, but my mum reminded me that even poached eggs need looking after Grin

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 12/05/2015 18:01

That's really good going locket. You must have been going some.

Just got in from the wk5r3 20 minute shocker. It was ok. Like root canal is ok. Nice when its over. If it wasn't for Laura i'd have given up. But I kept plodding on. Am proud.

I'm nearly 50, carrying a bit of extra padding, and convinced I wasn't 'built for running'. But now have just ran non-stop for 20 mins.

Mind you, not sure if i will be able to walk tomorrow let alone run though GrinShock

DontDoItDi · 12/05/2015 18:23

Glad to hear you made it idoallmyownstunts! Smile

AppleSnapple · 12/05/2015 21:54

Woohoo, go stunts!! And locket... Amazing, can't wait to be in your shoes! W4r2 for me tomorrow. I think it'd be ok if I could only find somewhere flat to run!! The hills are a killer, and downhill nearly worse!

AtSea1979 · 12/05/2015 23:00

Well done stunts I can't even think about running that far yet. I'm only on w2 and refuse to look at the app as I don't want to scare myself.
Quite annoyed today actually. Felt proud of myself when I finished W2R2 yesterday as it was quite hard, more hills (and my bashed toe). Lady at work said her daughter got stuck in my group and "she couldn't believe how slow it was they wasn't even running more like power walking" well I was bloody running, yes I probably could walk faster but I was trying.

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 13/05/2015 06:42

Thanks folks for the words of encouragement. Legs feel like lead today.

AtSea- rise above it and don't feel disheartened. I was bloody slow yesterday, shuffling along but who cares. We are out there doing it.

I spoke to a personal trainer and they said don't even worry about speed until you've finished the program.

When I've done the app and I've managed 5k at my snail pace I'm going to work on upping my speed. Until then I don't give a hoot!

DontDoItDi · 13/05/2015 08:38

Atsea how catty that woman was to say that to you! Everyone goes at their own pace. I don’t even think of myself as running, I call it jogging (real child of the 1970s me!) so who cares how slow or fast we go. First I’m going to try and finish the app; if I can do that then I’m going to try to get fast enough to do a 5k parkrun - I don’t mind finishing last but I wont want to be the only one who’s taking 2 hours Wink

And finishing a W2 run with hills and a bashed toe is pretty impressive - hope your toe's getting better.

ditavonteesed · 13/05/2015 09:03

at sea, what a knob she sounds, I am so slow that it takes me about 10mins to overtake someone slowly ambling along in front of me, but I am running, you are running, she is not. I am 100% sure that both my dd's could run a lot faster than me, they are not overweight and over 40. stupid woman ignore ingnore ignore. :)

DontDoItDi · 13/05/2015 15:53

W5r1 done today. Feeling a bit deflated because before I went out I Iooked at the three labels which say what’s in the podcasts this week, but I read the run 2 label by mistake so today I’d really psyched myself up to face run 2 instead of run 1. Confused So, run 1 went OK but it means the big challenges are still ahead! Roll on Friday....

AppleSnapple · 13/05/2015 16:15

Well done DontDoItDi... You're 2 runs ahead of me. I was half contemplating skipping w4r3 this sat so I could just get on with the misery of w5 but I realise now that's a bit foolish!! Grin some runs I feel great and others I struggle to run 3 minutes... Wish it made more sense! Good luck for Friday!

Thanks for the encouragement applesnapple. I guess Laura knows what she’s doing building us up to the hard stuff Smile The good thing is that the three five minute runs didn’t seem too bad today even though week 4 was tough.

We’ll get there!

locketpocket · 13/05/2015 20:33

For those of you approaching the 20min run - don't panic, YOU CAN DO IT! Listen to Laura, she knows what she's doing. Something that really helped me was having a playlist just over 20mins, with songs in the right order to keep me going. So, when I knew I'd be flagging, I'd have something really poppy (like a song from guardians of the galaxy film) which would remind me of the ds', and one of the reasons I'm running. Or, a bit of Spice GirlsGrin

vikinglys · 14/05/2015 08:39

W8r1 done this morning, not sure I believe it myself but hey I'm happy. I'm so impressed by everyone on this thread

AppleSnapple · 14/05/2015 13:34

Here's a question.. I don't use Laura, I just use the c25k app which lets me listen to my running playlist and just tells me when to start walking or running or what have you. So... Am on w4r3 this sat... Is it too late or do I need a bit of Laura in my life?! Can I still listen to music too with her voice? That's my favourite bit!

Bramshott · 14/05/2015 13:59

Signing in as I have decided that this is the summer I am going to get fit!

I usually walk briskly but this week have been alternating walking and running a bit. Am going to go the whole hog next week and do Week 1 of the C25K app....

One question - at the moment I use MapMyRun for both runs and walks to chart how far I am going and how fast. Can I use that alongside the C25K app?

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 14/05/2015 17:39

Apple- yes you can combine Laura and music. On the app there is a little music note icon. Press that and add a playlist. The music magically goes quiet when Laura talks and gets louder when she isn't talking. I couldn't do it without her encouraging me. She's my new BFF GrinGrin

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 14/05/2015 17:40

She doesn't talk all the time by the way, she just pipes up when it's time to run and stop and walk, and every couple of mins to let you know how much time you've done. And to tell you how well she thinks you're doing.

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 14/05/2015 17:41

And excellent work Viking!

AtSea1979 · 14/05/2015 19:27

Welcome Brams I've no idea as I'm not using either app. Though I think I might try the mapmyrun when I got out next just to see what distance we are covering.

AtSea1979 · 14/05/2015 19:31

I'm quite jealous of those who have Laura, she sounds useful.
Last night we had another leader for the group, I found her much more useful, she was quite stern and kept pushing us to walk faster inbetween etc I found that more encouraging, rather than the guy who says 'your all doing great' all the time. W2 complete, dreading the step up to 3 mins next week. Unfortunately I have to miss Saturday as my daughter is at a party at same time.

DontDoItDi · 14/05/2015 20:50

Welcome Bramshott!

I'm a big fan of Laura and I don't even mind the grotty NHS podcast music - knowing I only have to listen to it three times if I keep running is quite inspiring!
