Would you all like to join me here?

OP posts:
MillyMollyMandy78 · 05/05/2015 19:25

Hi, I've just struggled through my first walk/run today. Hope it's ok to join you here for general advice/ motivation over the next few weeks as I have signed up for Race for Life in July

AppleSnapple · 05/05/2015 21:58

Did w3r1 tonight, in the rain, it was good, even in the wet! Found the 3 minutes run fine, still struggle to see how I'll do 30 minutes though!

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 05/05/2015 22:57

Welcome Milly, I've signed up for a 5k too but not until october, if I can't run 5k by then I might cry. Loudly.

I am finding this whole thing addictive though. I even went to TK MAXX today and perused the Lycra section Shock

AppleSnapple · 06/05/2015 10:25

Me too milly, I am doing a race in July (eek!)
And idoallmyownstunts ... I am totally embracing the Lycra! Blush well, leggings, anyway, I have my top half v well covered!

MillyMollyMandy78 · 06/05/2015 17:50

Thanks for the warm welcome! I am genuinely too busy to run again until Friday but i am kinda wishing i could get out there sooner (glutton for punishment i guess). IDo and Apple I'm sure you will be fine when you do your 5k... Guess we all have to do our best and trust the programme (easier said than done)!

AtSea1979 · 07/05/2015 07:04

Just caught up with thread. Week 1 done. westend are you still with us? U started at same time as me.
Those who are much further on, it doesn't seem possible to run for 3 minutes let alone 20 but I am motivated, this is going to be life changing for me. I'm doing the C25K with an organised group, there was about a hundred of us at the beginning last week but about 80 now.

ditavonteesed · 07/05/2015 07:23

I last went out on sunday, didnt end up going yesterday as planned since it was raining I started decorating dd's room and it took me longer than I expected. I cant go out today since every muscle in my body hurts, so I shall go out tommorow but I wont be able to go at the weekend as dh is away. Anywat get to the point, is it ok to only go out once in a week as long as I get back on it next week? My next run is the dreaded 20min run.

nicknamenonsense · 07/05/2015 07:32

Planning on doing W1R3 after work today. Not overly looking forward to running later in the day but DH leaves for work around 6.30 so running before he leaves is not very realistic!
AtSea I'm very jealous of your group, wish there was something like that near me to keep me on track.
I will check in again later after I've actually done it!

WhizzPopBang · 07/05/2015 08:52

Thanks for asking Nickname, much better by the other day - got W1R3 tonight too - think I'm actually looking forward to it! Good luck with yours!

WhizzPopBang · 07/05/2015 08:54

PS have the same issue with timing as DP won't be back til about the same time - I'll think of you when I'm doing mine Smile

NoisyOyster · 07/05/2015 16:02

Good luck to everyone doing w1r3, was immensely proud of myself when I completed be first week!

Just done w2r3, and although the runs aren't as hard as I thought, they're definitely on my limit, and I'm barely plodding. It's definitely faster than a power walk, but only a smidgen Sad

Seem to have lost all motivation to go running too, had to peel myself off the sofa today to go, and that's only because no-one was in the house. I think if anyone had actually dated encourage me today I would have thumped them (!)

Just presumed the running would get easier I suppose fails to grasp the runs are getting longer

DontDoItDi · 07/05/2015 17:26

My pink neckband headphones arrived this morning - thanks idallmyownstunts for suggesting sports ones – so I decided to test them on w4r1 today. They stayed in place nicely.

W4r1 was tough but I made it (just!) Laura knows her stuff, I was just getting a stitch and she started talking about how to avoid stitches. So all well. But I don't go much faster than walking and I feel really really tired now. Still, I never thought I'd manage 5 minutes without stopping.

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 07/05/2015 20:32

DontDoIt- glad you're sorted with headphones. Getting the right music etc can almost take the pain of the runs away .

I have to say I ran wk5r1 on a treadmill today for the first time and blimey how much easier was that than running outdoors! Shock Sod the fresh air, it could be the way forward WinkGrin.

nicknamenonsense · 07/05/2015 21:08

Well I did manage W1R3 this eve and I have to say I hated every second of it. I felt like my head was just not in the game and I really do feel that that is almost the biggest hurdle. DH came and cycled (very very slowly! ) near me to provide water and encouragement and the only words that came put of my mouth were expletives, but once we were home and I was complaining about how unfit I was he pointed out that I was fine and had been moving more than a group of 4 other women who he said were doing the same run / walk as me which did make me feel like I was just making a fuss!!

nicknamenonsense · 07/05/2015 21:11

Sorry, just re-read that last post and it is very waffly / rambly!!
Also forgot to say that the encouragement here does definitely help with the motivation. Hope your W1R3 went well Whizzpop Smile

WhizzPopBang · 08/05/2015 08:42

Well done for getting out there & doing it Nickname! It is hard, especially right at the beginning where we are - my breathing is quite painful and I feel like my lungs are half full of cotton wool, they feel tiny & I can't breathe deeply enough to recover on the walking sections. But I did it too, had to go really early this morning in the end (having trouble with DD's bedtimes) - thought I'd love the fresh air and peacefulness but actually felt really wheezy and tired! Slightly dreading the next one - think it's 1.5 mins running?

locketpocket · 08/05/2015 13:40

Hello fellow runnersSmile
W9r2 completed & I've managed to run 5k!!GrinGrin Got to 30mins and felt fine, so carried on for another 4mins.

Last run tomorrow.....

DontDoItDi · 08/05/2015 16:33

That's great locketpocket! Smile

Surelyshirley4 · 08/05/2015 18:29

Hello to everyone talking about and fearing "the DREADED 20 minutes"...... Well, I was exactly where you all are just a matter of weeks ago and thought I'd let you know I ran for 30 MINUTES today!!!! I had exactly the same feelings as you all and honestly if I can do it, so can you. I have NEVER run for 30 minutes non stop before (probably hadn't ever run 5 or 10 either!). Good luck to you all! I am elated and in shock that I have just 2 runs to go and will have completed this amazing programme Grin

AtSea1979 · 08/05/2015 21:41

Had a disaster, this morning I stubbed my toe. It's was a bit painful, I cut my toe so stuck a plaster on it and went to work. Gradually throughout the day the pain got worse. When I got home at 5 I checked it and my toe is black with bruising and swollen and my foot is blue with bruising. Very strange, it was only a stubbed toe. Probably broken but not a lot I can do about that.
Tomorrow is W2R1 (group run). I really don't want to miss it and fully intend on going but goodness knows if there will be any point if I'm hobbling my way round. I'm scared of missing a race incase it sets my back completely.

ditavonteesed · 09/05/2015 07:39

thats sounds really painful, hope its feeling a bit better this morning. DD hurt her toe a couple of weeks ago, she stubbed it on the lawn and it went black and swelled up, looked awful and she couldnt wak for days, but it wasnt broken so there is hope. Buddy strap the toes together if your not going to get it xrayed.

locketpocket · 09/05/2015 10:21

Atsea - ouchHmm Is it worth getting it checked out?

locketpocket · 09/05/2015 10:26

Posted too soon.
Meant to add I managed to pull my Achilles' tendon at about w3 and stopped running for about 6 months weeks. But I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to go straight back into w3. It was if my body remembered, iyswim?

DontDoItDi · 09/05/2015 15:58

That sounds really sore AtSea. I would want to get it checked out especially with a cut so it doesn't get infected. I hope it gets better soon!

Did W4R2 this morning. This is definitely me reaching my limit now and really having to stretch myself. I did it but my legs feel like jelly. I can only hope that by doing it once more I'll be ready for the next stage.

If I ever get to the end of the programme (!) I've found a parkrun I could try.

AtSea1979 · 09/05/2015 17:26

Thanks. I thought about going to the gp last night before they closed as an emergency appointment but then I figured there nothing they could do anyway other than strap it. Which I will do before I go back to work on Monday morning.
Today I did W2R1, I was ok until about half way then the pain set in, I carried on, running and walking very slowly and managed to finish but was limping badly back to the car in agony. It's much better now I'm home with my shoes off.
