?
I find that I'm warm for most of my run then start to feel cold in the hip flexors around mile 7 or 8, that's when I feel I could do with a pair of shorts over my tights.
?
Pretty sure that if I put the shorts on at the start of the run I'd be too hot.

Perhaps I can persuade my other half to cycle along with me and hand out / take in clothing as required ??

Suzannewithaplan · 28/12/2014 11:18

?It's brilliant that you've been able to run since the operation Saz :)
Do you know what caused the initial knee problem? ?

emummy · 28/12/2014 11:21

Good idea! They could also carry drinks and snacks!
5.2 from me this am, very cold in the sunshine, even colder in the shady bits! Didn't even take off my gilet, that's how cold it was
So with saz's 2.5 that makes 834.9 I think

Suzannewithaplan · 28/12/2014 11:40

And in the summer one of those big ostrich feather fans!
Yes I definitely need someone to wait on me whilst I run? :o

cinnamongreyhound · 28/12/2014 11:56

Did 5.75 today with my doggy running group plus a couple of extras who were a bit slower so we walked a few bits. 7 dogs had a fab time!! 840.65

5.5 miles, wearing tights, Nike legend capris, Ron Hill hivis tights, three tops plus thermal hi vis more mile top, one buff round my wrist for dripping nose! Ear warmers, gloves, compression socks, sunglasses, Garmin and my newest kinvara shoes. Miracle I could move at all really!

cinnamongreyhound · 28/12/2014 12:26

Oh Mitchy1inge you really do hate the cold Xmas Sad I had long sleeves and long leggings and that was it! Others did have hats and additional layers but all were too hot at the end.

Suzannewithaplan · 28/12/2014 12:53

did you feel even slightly overly warm at all during the run Mitchy?
Great news that you're back on the horse - so to speak ?:o

Suzannewithaplan · 28/12/2014 13:25

Im starting to see that one of the reasons running is so addictive has to do with all the rituals surrounding it, procuring the right shoes, the right clothes, and all the other items hydration, energy gels.
Not to mention planning routes, preparing for events and races.

HalleLouja · 28/12/2014 14:05

10 miles to add here. Did it in under 1 hour 40. The last few miles were horrid. It definitely wasn't undulating it was hilly. I may have sworn a lot.

856.15

EdithDickie · 28/12/2014 16:15

That's really great saz Smile

Oh Mitchy you poor thing - was it okay once you got going?

5.1 for me this morning. Was icy on the paths so I struck out off road on Dartmoor. It was glorious, frosty, sunny, beautiful. I was knackered but I was knackered with amazing views!

EdithDickie · 28/12/2014 16:16

861.15 I think.

Heck of a pace Halle!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 28/12/2014 16:17

Well done Halle Smile

Suzanne when I was marathon training last year DH used to cycle out to meet me on long runs with supplies of lucozade/gels/water so I didn't have to carry it all myself Smile I never thought of getting him to cycle alongside me with a fan though, or indeed an umbrella, which would have come in handy at times Grin

saz great to hear of your come back. Well done.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 28/12/2014 16:17

Edith that sounds lovely.

originalpiratematerial · 28/12/2014 16:28

Just wondered - is anyone doing Jantastic? I did it last year and found it really motivating.

Can't remember how to do links on here - does this work?

Sazorchard31 · 28/12/2014 18:12

Suzanne it was a rare knee condition called synovial chondramatosis. Hopefully they removed it all, physio wasn't even sure id run again, couldn't run for 10 seconds 2 weeks ago!

Will keep it steady for a few weeks before I contemplate any races!

EdithDickie · 28/12/2014 18:46

Thanks for the link pirate! I have just signed up.

cinnamongreyhound · 28/12/2014 19:20

Never done it originalpiratematerial, can't get the regular exerciser, keeps taking me to sofa surfer! What does it entail? I intend to continue with what I'm doing now which is running 3-4 times a week, and I do log everything anyway so may not be more effort Xmas Smile

Sounds lovely EdithDickie, although I was grateful for my beautiful forest environment today so not too jealous!

Edith its 1 hour 40 minutes not seconds.

actiongirl1978 · 28/12/2014 20:29

Hi all, loving the cold weather gear chat! I went out today in vest, long sleeve top, wind jacket and team running vest on top, with buff and headband and mittens, tights, thick socks and my ugg boots in the car for my return! Despite the fact I ran in stunning sunshine I didn't get hot at all.

Anyway I ran my very first off-road 10k today and it was a lot of fun and I think I did ok considering the mud and the fact I was wearing my trail shoes for the first time!

So I'm adding 6 miles

867.15

actiongirl1978 · 28/12/2014 20:31

Oh and mitchy, don't worry, I am sure you will be fine, if anyone has the motivation it's you.

And Suzanne, thank you for the concern, often I find running with a chesty cough doesn't make any difference (long time asthmatic) but this afternoon I have come down with the sore throat and neck to match so I may indeed have a day off tomorrow...

Oh and actually I forgot my gym warm up mile from yesterday..

So 868.15

standingonlego · 28/12/2014 21:20

Sulking as my run in the snow got vetoed as too slippy as I only had my regular trainers not my trails shoes....and my planned tourism parkrun was cancelled due to the weather...going a bit stir crazy...BUT back home from travels but no snow here for my trot out tomorrow.

Loving the run chat !

OnTheThursdayOfChristmas · 29/12/2014 09:45

Come on Postie, it's Garmin day!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 29/12/2014 09:58

My morning has started a bit later than I planned, but I am wearing running gear and will go out and enjoy the sunshine once I have finished my coffee and let my breakfast settle a bit Wink

Mitchy1nge · 29/12/2014 11:50

oh how exciting! a new garmin! Grin there is no greater gift!

mentally and physically am well up for running but think there is just so much extra outdoor heavy work in the winter, at the moment anyway, with our horses and deep deep mud and leaking boots that I just want to be comfortable and indoors which is not really like me - am trying to ride a lot more each day and can't work out whether running works best before or after. I could really feel the different muscle groups used in riding and running in my legs arguing with one another yesterday Confused
