Hello all

3.1 from me yesterday, was very icy so abandoned 10k route and stayed low down doing fast loops round the park.

Am heading further north soon, so hoping weather won't stop the running..

FestiveChopinLizt · 27/12/2014 09:27

780.4 altogether then

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 27/12/2014 10:13

A parkrun from me this morning. The sun came out as we were running and has gone back behind the clouds again now.

783.5

OnTheThursdayOfChristmas · 27/12/2014 10:55

A backwards parkrun from me this morning - 786.6

HalleLouja · 27/12/2014 12:51

Managed parkrun today. May regret it tomorrow when I have my 10 miler....... Took it easily and without looking at my Garmin managed it in 30:00!

789.9.

cinnamongreyhound · 27/12/2014 12:54

Well done HalleLouja!

Another parkrun from me 1 min quicker than last week so 793

Hello all! Hope you had a good Christmas!

Haven't posted for ages as I couldn't run due to chest infection and gynae issues. Back in my trainers now though and have run 5.5 miles today, plus another 8.5 from previous unpublished runs so 13 to add to make 806.

Suzannewithaplan · 27/12/2014 16:28

10 miles from me
816

Suzannewithaplan · 27/12/2014 16:58

certainly is a challenge managing in the cold, I find I get cold towards the end of the run, I guess because I'm tired and have slowed down a bit.
I think I may try wearing shorts over running tights because I seem to be cold in the glute/upper quad area, it feels as if my hipflexors seize up a bit

Mitchy1nge · 27/12/2014 17:20

not coping in the cold AT ALL whatsoever not even a bit - have had one off road run and lost both my shoes in deep mud, one 'naked' (no Garmin) run and an attempt today that began and ended in the same spot with me crying Blush no actual running took place

hope it gets warmer soon, have ten mile race in January and a half in feb - am approaching the halfway pound between 'the rest will do you good' and losing all my fitness

Suzannewithaplan · 27/12/2014 17:32

oh poor Mitchy:(
you need a runners group hug (((())))

can you switch to something else for a short while to keep your fitness levels up a bit? (whilst at the same time getting a break from the relentless pounding of running)

I gotta say the cold makes me feel a bit scared, I go out with a hat and a jacket in my backpack just incase something befalls me and there's a risk of dying from exposure

I'll no doubt be just as concerned about heatstroke come the summerBlush

Mitchy1nge · 27/12/2014 17:34

POINT halfway POINT

the only pounds are losses in muscle and gains of fat!

Mitchy1nge · 27/12/2014 17:38

thank you! Hug warmly received and reciprocated!

yes, well, you will never hear me complain of the heat and running whether am in the south of France or anywhere really - on plus side the spin bike is getting some use and the horses are enjoying lots of extra work

Suzannewithaplan · 27/12/2014 17:46

:)

I dunno the exact figures for rates at which we become de-trained but afaik fitness and strength are regained more quickly than they are initially gained.

The body (I'd say body/mind system if it didnt sound so clunky) 'remembers' it's former state as if it were a habit that it falls back into relatively easily.

At least thats how I see it based on the various things I've heard/read/experienced

Suzannewithaplan · 27/12/2014 17:48

I would stray into 'morphic resonance theory' but it'd be inappropriate and way off topic Blush :o

Mitchy1nge · 27/12/2014 18:01

but it sounds fascinating!

Have cheered up a lot by trying to clear some space on the sofa, I must not be very committed to my new life as a couch potato if there's been nowhere to sit down for a few days? Grin

Suzannewithaplan · 27/12/2014 18:05

he-he having no space on the sofa sounds like a 'Ulysses pact' to stop you from couch potato-hood.

(you can always search sheldrake and morphic resonance if you want to wander down that particular rabbit hole!)

cinnamongreyhound · 27/12/2014 18:32

I find I warm up quickly when I run but the idea of going out initially is a tougher barrier! I ran in long sleeves and 3/4 leggings today and everything was fine apart from my hands when I was chatting after parkrun. Sorry to hear you're struggling Mitchy1inge, no suggestions though I'm afraid other than arranging runs with others Flowers

I looked into the muscle loss thing when I thought about having an op for my knee. But still none the wiser, it depends on how much you train really. But I think that you don't lose muscle generally for up to a month after stopping. I've never put it to the test...
I hope you find your 'pêche' Mitchy. It isn't always easy. I prefer running in the winter to hot weather, but it doesn't suit everyone.
It is certainly more motivating to run in cold/wet weather with other runners. I love my club for that, but I also enjoy running with my dog.
6 from me today.

EdithDickie · 28/12/2014 05:44

827.2

emummy · 28/12/2014 08:37

Suzanna I always wear shorts over my tights in winter, definitely helps. My upper half gets really warm though! On Boxing Day when it was -4, by the 2k point I had taken off my jacket, gloves and gilet and had my sleeves rolled up. mind you, some people did the whole thing in shorts and T shirt. Maybe it was a strategy to make themselves run really fast before they got hypothermia?!

OnTheThursdayOfChristmas · 28/12/2014 08:46

mitchy I always find buying a new piece of kit makes me quite keen Grin

Sazorchard31 · 28/12/2014 08:55

I was so pleased last night for going on my first run since July. I'd been suffering knee pain for 12 months and thought I must get it looked at. Had an operation in November and didn't know if I'd run again, or if my legs were up to it as had loads of muscle wastage on my thigh.
2.5 miles run in 31 mins - previously I'd been doing it in about 26 mins so not too much slower.
Happy days I will be back out soon!!

OnTheThursdayOfChristmas · 28/12/2014 09:03

That's brilliant saz!
