Open for any runners, or any runners looking to get their 'mojo' back.

I have a 10k on Sunday which I am feeling less than prepared for, and the stomach bug is just adding to that. I have a feeling I will be the slowest runner!

Ended up walking the last mile with a mad dash to the bathroom when I got back Blush been a while since that happened!

4 miles with my doggies and buddy. I told dh if she couldn't go I wouldn't and when she said she could make it I was actually disappointed I just wanted to chill on the sofa Blush but I went and feel better for it, 'you never regret a run' should be plastered all over my house!!!

3.5 from me this morning. First time out for over a week as I've had a cold/cough thing. Breathing was tricky and lower back/backside were objecting but I feel good now. Def need the same thing tattooed somewhere interesting Cinnamon :)

Cardiff - your in :)

MirandaWest · 17/09/2014 09:42

Decided to avoid week 6 run 1 and go for week 6 run 2 instead Smile So including my walks at beginning and end and in the middle that's 3.3 miles. On Friday I'll do 25 min running and will only count that distance in this count.

In the marathon relay I'm going to be doing a 5.1 km leg which is definitely manageable Smile

MirandaWest · 17/09/2014 09:43

Total mileage so far is 432.8 I think

ThursdayLast · 17/09/2014 20:57

Definately managable Miranda Smile

Another 3.5 miles to add from me tonight, with my running friend. She took me on a new route that was part road part trail - with a mahoosive set of steep steps mixed in for good measure. We walked up that bit.

So I make that 436.3

5madthings · 17/09/2014 21:25

Arghh ladies what do you all do when you are ill or get your period? I was getting back into my running groove and then today got my period, first few days always horrendous and I woke up with a stinking cold and temp. Feel like shit so no hope of running for a few days until I ma feeling better. But this always happens I seem to catch colds/get run down, particularly around my period. Thinking of taking a multi vitamin to see if that will help but God it's frustrating.

Do you push on or rest and wait till properly well? Thing is eeven if I can't run I still have school run to do, which is 8-13 miles on the bike with dd in the seat. Luckily dp was home to do it today bit that was just luck as its is day off (shift work) had it not been I would have had to do School runs etc. Dp took over today and did everything. He has even cooked tomorrow night's dinner so I just have to heat it up :) but he is back at work from lunchtime until 11pm tomorrow so school pick up, dinner, bedtime routine will be all down to me. Hopefully I will feel better.

I really wamt to feel wEll and get into a routine of morning runs, felt so good after my early morning run on Saturday!

feetheart · 17/09/2014 22:19

5madthings - it's bloody annoying isn't it. I felt invincible after the WOLF run (and did a rather too fast 4.5miles the day after) but haven't been running again until today due to stinky cold/cough.
I don't usually try and run through illness though I do a great line in Major Sulking :)

EdithDickie · 17/09/2014 22:26

Ugh 5madthings soooooo annoying! Hope that you feel better soon.

I plod on through my period as it makes me feel better afterwards but I don't have horrendous pains just bloating and general aching etc.

cinnamongreyhound · 18/09/2014 07:41

Rubbish 5madthings, I generally run if I can breathe well enough and just take tissue! Agree with EdithDickie, running while on my period always makes cramps go away for a bit and I just make sure I've changed everything before I go out so I have minimal chance of leakage! Hope you're feeling better soon.

5madthings · 18/09/2014 08:56

Urgh cold has gone to my chest, I have asthma so def no running today or until I am less wheezy.

Period wise it's more flow than pain though my spd does play up as well. So yes I try and run but maybe not on heavy days just lately I seem to get ill with my period. Maybe it's just coincidental but I may get my iron levels checked.

5madthings · 18/09/2014 08:57

Eta thankyou for well wishes etc :) hopefully will be running by the weekend.

MadMonkeys · 18/09/2014 10:12

Haven't run for the last couple of weeks as the girls have been waking up all night and I've been pooped... But ran last night and feel much better for it! Did a lightly shorter route than normal as my knee plays up if I overdo it. Hopefully it will only take a couple more runs to be back to 5k. Then I'm hoping to increase my distance now the weather has cooled down.

ThursdayLast · 18/09/2014 19:17

5mad I pick my battles. Like cinnamon if I can breathe, I run! but not necessarily v far! If you feel like shit, don't push it. I don't believe you'd be doing your body any favours if it's struggling to fight something else off.
It's been a while since I had normal periods, but normally I'd just make the worst day or two my rest days, and on the others take it easy.

Tonight I've been back at my weekly pilates class and now I feel all loosey goosey, stretched and marvellous Grin

ThursdayLast · 18/09/2014 19:20

Actually, thinking about it I haven't had a normal period since when I was working Shock. And a full days waitressing was MORE than enough exercise!

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 18/09/2014 19:56

Hi,

Ive come to join you. I originally started C25K in March 2012 (and joined the thread on here under a different name), but stopped listening during week 6 and started to do my own thing. Sept 2012 I did my first 10K. During 2013 I did another 6 10Ks and earlier this year I did my first HM. I did it in 2hrs 31 minutes which I felt OK with. Then I hurt my knee.

Anyway a few weeks ago I started C25K again on week 3. I only did weeks 3 and 4 then did Parkrun with DS (he runs slower than me so I knew it would be steady) but wanted to go myself so have done a few on my own now. Managed to get 28:58 last week. My PB is 25:48 so would love to be there again.

Ive also downloaded a C25K+ app for speed. I swear Laura is trying to kill me. It starts off with the walk then running at a 'slow' pace for 5 mins then minute intervals of fast pace/slow pace. Well I find that the 'slow' pace is fast enough Blush

My plan is to use the rest of this year to build up speed for my 5Ks then in 2015 Im going to get distance sorted so I can do some more 10Ks. Id also love to do the GNR one day. Its always been my dream. I watch the runners on TV and think if they can do it then why can't I? After all most people there are just normal people like me.

Anyway Im not running now till Parkrun on Sat. DH is out tomorrow morning before work as he was full of cold to go today and as he is just starting out (week 2 of C25K) I said he could take my day. I will go on the clothes hanger exercise bike for some interval training while he is out.

Anyway sorry for the ramble, just wanted to introduce myself properly.

EdithDickie · 18/09/2014 22:22

Hi Biscuits!

I really want to do the GNR too (bit of a hike as I live in Cornwall!), it's just so iconic, that route etc. Hopefully see you there next September Smile

4.4 miles for me tonight. And every single one was HARD! Went with a guy from work and he was a great coach! Very encouraging, average pace was 11 minutes per mile and as 3 miles of the run were uphill I am seriously proud of that!

EdithDickie · 18/09/2014 22:23

440.7

feetheart · 18/09/2014 22:59

Did just under 5 miles today and it was HARD. Possibly still getting over the cold but I think I need to have a look at pacing myself better as seem to hare off and then slow down with each passing mile. Might have to explore the 'pacing' bit of my Garmin.
Any tips would be welcome.

GNR is brilliant - the support along the way (on a chilly, breezy, showery day when I did it in 2013) was incredible, as are the Red Arrows and the amazing people along the way - the Fridgeman, Jarra Jim, etc, etc. Definitely a 'bucket-list' race :)

Total 445.7 I'm rounding up as 4.96 is almost 5 miles and it felt like more :)

postmanpatscat · 19/09/2014 06:32

Finally got out last night for first run since Sat (so much for training for imminent HM) and did 12.2km which is about 7.5 miles I think, hopefully it was enough to burn off the TWO Krispy Kreme doughnuts I ate at work!

Welcome biscuits were you on the 5:2 threads too?

feet I have my Garmin set at 5:45 per km pace and tend to match that on a shorter distance eg 8km but run slower on longer distances. I more often set it to display time/distance though rather than get obsessed by pace, as it's still there to check if I want to see it. I usually start off slower and get quicker when I've warmed up. DP was in Newcastle for the weekend of the GNR and Seb Coe was on the same flight as him coming back to Heathrow, including in the BA Lounge, then was in the same lift in the car park and was parked right next to us too (well his chauffeur was) so DP went over and spoke to him and shook his hand!

I had a look at the Winter Run but cannot bear to spend nearly £40 to run a 10k. I'd rather just donate the money!

HalleLouja · 19/09/2014 09:00

I did 5 miles but stopped my Garmin just before when I decided to give up. Then run club buddies made me run the end so that is 450.7.

EauRouge · 19/09/2014 09:39

You're all making me want to do the GNR now!

3.1 from me this morning, I've got my time down to 31.09! Really looking forward to getting back to Parkrunning and doing a bit of tourism.

So that's 453.8.

TessTackle · 19/09/2014 09:52

A slow 4.48 from me until a great song came on and I sprinted home Grin

That makes it 458.28
