Runners thread number 7

Sirzy · 02/09/2014 17:26

Open for any runners, or any runners looking to get their 'mojo' back.

I have a 10k on Sunday which I am feeling less than prepared for, and the stomach bug is just adding to that. I have a feeling I will be the slowest runner!

Hmm, postmanpatscat, I knew there was a reason we shouldn't have moved to Aberdeenshire! Looking at 2 degrees here overnight, rising to tropical 4 degrees for boot camp tomorrow morning!

Pumble · 28/10/2014 16:42

Wow-this thread mives fast! Distracted by poorly child and another who decided nappies were a thing of the past and so not checked in!
Thank you so much for physio recommendation Smile

The great thing is just been out and apart from five steps at the start... Pain free Grin. Only 4km but it's a start. So pleased. Think I should stick at that distance for a bit to trial it but fingers crossed!

Knowing there's a whole thread of people running each day was a great motivator!

Mitchy1nge · 28/10/2014 17:05

can't catch up on phone, want to add 2 miles - missed my morning run then underestimated how long it would take to meet and be assessed by personal trainer, over 2 hours - feel v twitchy from lack of running! Due to half term disruptions in routine will have to do long run by myself tomorrow instead of Friday with my group so that should help.

ScienceRocks · 28/10/2014 17:12

May I join?

I've just completed the couch to 5k programme (having not run since school!) and did my first park run at the weekend (not very fast though at 34:50 but the people there did say to take 20 sec off if you started at the back of the 500 strong crowd Shock as I did).

My plan now is to run two or three times a week, ideally a park run plus a treadmill session and/or a run after school drop off. Can't see me doing much over 5k though. Does that mean I don't qualify for the thread?

ThursdayOfTheLivingDead · 28/10/2014 17:15

sciencerocks
Welcome!
There is absolutely no criteria for this thread. If you run you are a runner Grin
Have a nosey on the parkrun thread too if you fancy, 500 runners sounds vvv big well done!

TheBigBumTheory · 28/10/2014 20:02

A dark and cold 3.2 tonight, taking us to

876.4

I'm on a rest day tomorrow!

cinnamongreyhound · 28/10/2014 20:41

Hi Mooogles yes it is and we start again each month, October is going very well so far! How was your lunchtime run? Was your beach run your lunchtime run? Envy

How lovely to run with your dh standingonlego!

I'm in Suffolk emummy and we've had a glorious day sorry

Welcome ScienceRocks, I did the c25k nearly 3 years ago Shock took me another year to actually do a parkrun! 34mins is very respectable for a first one :) I second popping over to the parkrun thread and the only criteria for joining the thread is running, no specific speed or distance required! Plus if people aren't running for whatever reason they still pop in to keep in touch :) as will be me in a few months.

4 dark miles for me but not cold, lots of cyclists in the forest tonight so dogs didn't get much time off so several www stops Angry plus my friend wasn't feeling great so we didn't make it to the top of our hill without stopping, but it's still 4 miles :)

880.4

cinnamongreyhound · 28/10/2014 20:42

Can't believe my phone autocorrected wee to www!!!!!!

feetheart · 28/10/2014 22:37

Lovely to see lots of new people. As has been said - if you run you are a runner and everyone is welcome :)

I have a mad 4.8 miles to add from last night - mad because we needed a gentle, slow, short recovering-from-a-half-the-day-before run and we ended up going further than we planned and there were bloody hills Shock We didn't die but my thighs really hated me this morning.

885.2

IrianofWay · 29/10/2014 10:23

5.2 miles last night. 890.4! Getting there

Had the perfect excuse to take it slow as one of the beginners was struggling and I ran slowly with her Wink

Right hip is hurting now. Will give myself a break until the weekend I think.

Mitchy1nge · 29/10/2014 10:26

hope hip responds to the rest irian

WHY do I increasingly prepare for a run by sitting around SMOKING while I wait for my porridge to digest a bit

LaughingM · 29/10/2014 10:39

Adding 1.8 from yesterday… I went out to do 5k but it was one of those days where mind just does not triumph over matter and I gave up after 3k Hmm. I might (dare I say it) try a speed / intervals session later on to make up for it.

Well done all those running more successfully than I am!

ThursdayOfTheLivingDead · 29/10/2014 13:13

8 rainy miles.

Exhausted

900.2

feetheart · 29/10/2014 13:36

Laughing - that's 1.8 more than those sitting on their bums. Every little counts :)

906.8 with your 3.1 and my 3.7 (not even my own 3.7, run/walk intervals with friend who is new to running, only her 2nd outing so might have overdone it?)

hope is just a half term thing but 2nd day in a row of not getting out for a run by myself

cinnamongreyhound · 29/10/2014 17:04

Haven't been on my own for quite a while Mitchy1nge. I have my regular running buddy I run with week days, then parkrun which I suppose is technically on my own and my 10k was quite isolated but since I found out I was pregnant haven't been going on a Sunday which used to be my solitary one. Nothing wrong with company but smoking before a run isn't the best idea and stoptober is almost over!

5k is 3.1 miles msdolittle, you'll see lots of those added after parkruns on Saturday :)

Mitchy1nge · 29/10/2014 18:31

there is really no pleasing me, anywhere sort of public or on/near roads (however quiet) and I'm useless without company

but with company you can't do your own thing at your own pace for your own distance

am grumpy but as usual am the only person to blame! tomorrow I must just get out by myself somehow or other (although am also grumpy that garminconnect appears to be down, grrrrr)

Mitchy1nge · 29/10/2014 18:32

and I definitely can't blame the smoking on anyone else Grin

Mooogles · 30/10/2014 08:54

Cinnamon.. Most of my runs are on the beach, unless very windy. I am lucky!

Mitchy, I am on day 6 of stopping smoking and using the running to help. Smoking before a run feels slightly wrong ??

Mooogles · 30/10/2014 08:55

Meant to say, did 3 miles this morning but can't do the total, Amon my phone...

Mitchy1nge · 30/10/2014 09:07

909.8 am going NOW, before stuff starts getting in the way, even though half a portion of porridge is sitting in my tummy like lumpy cement

feetheart · 30/10/2014 10:06

1.6 miles after dropping car for MOT.
I suspect DH is getting concerned just how much this running lark is taking over as I preferred to run home rather than get a lift and I'm out with club tonight (he doesn't yet know that I came home and ordered cross-country spikes - he may actually have a point :o)
