Open for any runners, or any runners looking to get their 'mojo' back.

I have a 10k on Sunday which I am feeling less than prepared for, and the stomach bug is just adding to that. I have a feeling I will be the slowest runner!

try each one at least once biscuits? you'll never know which one you love unless you do!

ThursdayOfTheLivingDead · 22/10/2014 15:34

Oh biscuits I totally didn't read your post properly dur. I second what mitchy says about trying them all!
I enjoy my pilates class, and I find it really helps undo all the running niggles my body accumulates.
At home I like to do HIIT and kettlebell exercises (but not often)

Pumble · 22/10/2014 19:16

Milton Keynes might work....

But managed to do shred level one for two days (not doing star jumps!) and ankle seems ok so maybe we are on the up! You have encouraged me to give something ago and I hope to try a run at the weekend when I have more time/childcare (the toddlers do shred with me!).

I definitely prefer ripped in 30though but think that might be a bit much for my ankle and nothing beats a run outside!!

Blatherskite · 22/10/2014 20:15

I've messaged you details of my physio Pumble. He's amazing.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 22/10/2014 21:03

I am visiting him tomorrow Blathers Smile

EdithDickie · 22/10/2014 21:24

Can I just have a quick ARGHHHH because I am doing first ever proper race on Sunday and now I am freaking out about it Sad

10k in the town I grew up in.

Freaky because (list for purposes of getting thoughts into order instead of shapeless mass of argh-ness)

  1. Unhappy memories of that town - when I entered the race it seemed empowering to face demons - now I am regretting it
  2. I haven't run since last Thursday for various reasons (away at weekend, late night at work, had to do a favour for someone etc but also because of the argh factor - which I know is stupid and compounding it)
  3. Doubting I can do it in any kind of reasonable time (I have said that I want to do it in 1 hour 10)

Umm I think that's about it.

I have run 6 miles before, 2e weeks ago. And 5 miles a handful of times.

I can do 10k on the back of this can't I?!

Have I f*ed it up with my lazy arse-ness this last week?

Whew! Feels better to get that out. But..... also..... argh

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 22/10/2014 21:32

Edith you can do it! 1 hour 10 is perfectly respectable for a first 10K, and well done for facing those demons. If you can run 5 miles you can run 10K - being with other people will pull you along. Good luck.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 22/10/2014 21:33

Consider this week as tapering Smile

Mitchy1nge · 22/10/2014 21:34

you have definitely got this Edith!

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 22/10/2014 21:42

Yes you can Edith. My first 10K was the first time I ran 5K nonstop let alone 10K. Just take it steady and enjoy the atmosphere

HalleLouja · 22/10/2014 22:02

A nice easy 5k here makes 673.5. Am I a bit freaky liking running by myself in the dark on my old route. Not done it for ages and was like an old friend. Am a bit weird.

Edith you have it nailed.

HalleLouja · 22/10/2014 22:05

Biscuits I love hiit. Am giving up pilates due to lack of time but it is good. Though a bit boring in my eyes. Am going to miss it.

Also body conditioning class with weights which is also helpful.

EdithDickie · 22/10/2014 22:15

Oh thank you so much, that's actually made me feel a bit emotional!

I will report back.

Thanks again

standingonlego · 22/10/2014 22:19

Edith - you can do this!!! We will all be sending you positive running vibes :)

A cheeky just over 4 miler takes us to 677.6 - but my knee is now aching :(

standingonlego · 22/10/2014 22:22

halle not weird at all - I ran an old familiar route very early today as sun came up, was really nice (except when a cow frightened me as I did not spot it in the dark!). I love running round old haunts on my own :)

cinnamongreyhound · 23/10/2014 09:36

You'll be fine EdithDickie, believe in yourself!!!!

I run in the dark on my own HalleLouja, Dh doesnt like me going in the forest with the dogs on my own in the dark but in street lit areas he's ok. Always keeps an eye on my on endomondo while I out, ahh how sweet!

Hope your knee feels better soon standingonlego :(

4 miles from me too with headtorches little dog and friends :) we frightened my friend who was putting her horses out with our headtorches coming over the bridge this morning!

681.6

CardiffUniversityNetballTeam · 23/10/2014 10:20

Good luck Edith! You'll be just fine. Smile

3.1 miles from me this morning. I overestimated how cold it would be and was wearing far too many clothes!
Must remember I don't need long tights until it goes below 10C and I don't need thermal under layer until it's even colder than that!

New total is 684.7.

Will we manage 1000 miles in October do you think?

emummy · 23/10/2014 10:32

2.6 this morning, interval session. Felt really sluggish, had to grit my teeth but managed respectable pace in the intervals. Think my body is still adjusting to the gluten free diet.
687.3

MirandaWest · 23/10/2014 11:14

4k which nearly was 2.5 miles (well 2.49 but near enough for me Grin. Was more like my 5k pace than my 3k one but was ok. And have managed 2 days of the Shred - yesterday's with 2kg weights was more tricky than tinned tomatoes the day before but presumably better for me. Will shred later (have just been to the hairdresser so am feeling vain right now)

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 23/10/2014 11:45

5 morning miles from me today - more than I expected to be able to do, but probably less than I needed to do Smile

I met a dog walker coming in the opposite direction who said that she had heard something in the bushes and wasn't sure what it was, but it had felt strange to her, so she would keep an eye one me as I ran past them. That was at the 4k point, where I was starting to tire, but it helped me get a move on Grin. I don't usually feel nervous around there - it is a local country park and there are often dog walkers and runners around the trail paths I use, as well as plenty of people on the paved paths - but was a bit spooked today. I kindly passed the message on to the next person I met Smile.

694.8 with my 5 and Miranda's 2.5?

IrianofWay · 23/10/2014 15:05

Hey edith! I'm doing my first 10k on sunday. I am also freaking out a bit. In fact the first thing I think when I wake up every morning is 'OMG!! I'm running in a 10k on sunday' and my stomach does a little flip... in fact I am not even nervous about the dentist tomorrow in comparison and I HATE going to the dentist Grin

It will be fine..... honest.

feetheart · 23/10/2014 15:10

4.7 miles to add from me. Not the most sensible run as took off like a whippet (possibly in 'keeping up with DS at parkrun' mode :)) and then struggled for most of the rest of it Hmm Good reminder to be sensible during half on Sunday - slow and steady to start with then see how I feel.
Am getting rather nervous now as it is the first local one I've done so the first one where I will know people on the route and DH and DC will be there somewhere, feeding jelly babies to the runners :)

699.5

Not sure about 1000 Cardiff though there are a few of us doing races this w/e I think.

karatekimmi · 24/10/2014 06:38

13.7 miles to add from me over 2 runs

713.2

It has only been a few days, but there's been a lot of chat!!

Good luck to those doing a first race, enjoy it and don't go too fast to start!

I think I've agreed to do the Chester marathon next year, not sure how that happened!!

Mitchy1nge · 24/10/2014 08:22

Oh 715 precisely with the 1.8 I did with new friend yesterday, and hopefully a few more soon once have shovelled all this porridge in

Mitchy1nge · 24/10/2014 12:14

8 mile with my Slow Joggers this morning, am shockingly bad at route planning, mile 8 (furthest they have ever ever run) was all up a long annoying hill Grin
