Open for any runners, or any runners looking to get their 'mojo' back.

I have a 10k on Sunday which I am feeling less than prepared for, and the stomach bug is just adding to that. I have a feeling I will be the slowest runner!

TessTackle · 25/09/2014 09:40

I'm trying to alternate the two big parks closest to me, did the one by DDs school today so I'll do the one by home tomorrow.

Hi,
Can I ask a few more idiot questions? I'm up to w7r2 and feeling pretty good- much less wobbly and managing the runs. This is the furthest I've managed in years Smile

I'm a beginner runner although I used to run lots when I was a slim, young thing. I noticed last night that I'm very heavy footed,my trainers are really loud when my foot hits the ground.

Any ideas why? Am I doing it wrong? I have new trainers so that might be one reason or it might be lack of fitness,so maybe I'm not raising my leg high enough because i'm tired by the longer runs??? I don't have flat feet- just sound like a clown when i run.

It wasn't so obvious before because I was running on grass and I guess the other runs were shorter. Any good suggestions?

Also- last time I posted on here was to complain about savage dogs and flashers. My new route, past the river includes some very fit, long haired men rowing past.Big improvement Grin

Hi everyone. I'm on the app so I can't see any of the photos. I will have to pop onto the website later and have a look.

I have 4.9 miles to add from Sunday evening. This was how far I managed the day after I went out with an old friend and accidentally drank a bottle of red wine! It's a miracle I wasn't sick or passed out on that run!
And then today I ran 8.5 miles, my longest run yet to date which was fab.

Windsor 10k to add on Saturday, really looking forward to it.

CardiffUniversityNetballTeam · 25/09/2014 12:49

So the new total is 620.7.

Oh, Guggenheim, I have no advice apart from possibly try having a gait analysis in your nearest running shop and see what they say?

guggenheim · 25/09/2014 14:26

Thanks- I think I'm just a bit heavy footed Smile I asked for gait analysis at a running shop but the twat man said that I could only have one if I was going to buy new trainers. I sort of see his point. I should go to a more helpful shop and try again.

cinnamongreyhound · 25/09/2014 14:32

Forgot to add my miles 624.7.

Good luck for Saturday CardiffUniversityNetballTeam.

Perhaps it's just your running style Guggenheim? May be better to have your gait analysed to see if you can get shoes that improve your foot position. I think if you're confortable while you run it isn't worth trying to adjust it as I think you can actually cause yourself more harm.

TessTackle · 25/09/2014 15:53

Good luck for Saturday, Cardiff.

4.5 from me so 629.2

emummy · 25/09/2014 16:03

Good luck for Saturday Cardiff. Am doing the Inverness 10k on Sunday, so no more runs for me this week. And today is my first day on a gluten free diet as an official coeliac - maybe it'll make me faster!

originalpiratematerial · 25/09/2014 16:08

2.9 miles from me today. Is that 632.1?

MirandaWest · 25/09/2014 18:21

Did another 1.9 miles in Bostom this morning. On the train to New York now and will run in Central Park (and will take a photo although not while running).

We really sprinted at the end which felt good Smile

Total of 634

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 25/09/2014 18:47

Envy @ Miranda for being in the US

TessTackle · 25/09/2014 19:11

Echoing Biscuits Envy

EdithDickie · 25/09/2014 22:27

Miranda that sounds amazing!

Guggenheim - echo what the others say re gait analysis. Are you getting any pain?

guggenheim · 26/09/2014 14:42

EdithDickie yes I'm getting pain in the back of one heel, probably my archillie's tendon. I will get the gain analysis done and start to read up on running techniques- always just hurled myself out the door when I was young!

McPie · 26/09/2014 20:51

My mojo went last week when I realised my training buddy was far faster than me Sad and I would have to get into the mind set of training on my own or deal with her running off when we run together. I have a half at the end of October and have only been running 5 months and was enjoying the support at the start but I cant keep up any more without possibly injuring myself.
Today I ran 3.7 miles at an average of 9.39, my best so far, with 10 hilly miles planned for tomorrow night with my ex training buddy and others doing the same half.

McPie · 26/09/2014 20:55

So 637.7 total, will be back tomorrow with my update.

cinnamongreyhound · 26/09/2014 20:59

That's a shame McPie, I'm faster than the lady I usually run with and slower than most that I run with the dogs with but that doesn't stop us running together. I do some on my own too but certainly wouldn't stop running with someone because the pace was different, just need to plan other runs too and I've never been on a run and been left behind. If some get ahead they will always wait for each other to regroup.

McPie · 26/09/2014 21:23

Thanks cinnamongreyhound
I was left behind last Wednesday somewhere I had only been once before, half distance over multi terrain which I wasn't too confident about, trail I can do easily but this was quite extreme for me.
They had a time in mind but I wasn't in the discussion process so felt very much alone, one of them was going to double back and make sure I knew where I was going but again I was not told this so gave up after just over 2 miles in feeling upset and angry with myself.
I missed Mondays run as it was my birthday but joined them on Wednesday but felt like I couldn't hit my planned mileage as they were all waiting for me to finish Sad.
I need to hit marathonish mileage for an event in May so will seriously need to regroup my mojo.

TessTackle · 26/09/2014 22:02

Oh McPie sorry they were so shit to you!

I run on my own if that's any consolation Thanks

I did 4.93 bringing us to 642.63

ThursdayLast · 26/09/2014 22:12

McPie that sounds rotten, and in all honesty like you'd be better off without them.
I mostly run on my own, but when I do run with my friend I keep pace with her - I am ordinarily faster (because I've been running longer) but I would never just leave her.
I think finding your confidence is as importance as covering the miles.

McPie · 26/09/2014 22:48

I have paid a lot of money to do events together when we were equals so am sort of stuck with her but her goals have changed and she is now looking for major fast improvements (marathon distance by xmas, ultras and whatnot next year) where as I'm was happy with my gradual improvements. I supported her through a major injury and my thanks is watching her disappear off with the faster runners Sad.
I enjoy running and will not give up but it is on my terms now Smile

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 26/09/2014 22:57

Aww sorry to hear about your friend McPie I trained for a half myself so it is doable. You are not stuck with running with her. Agree to go to the events together (ie traveling to and from them) but run on your own. While running with people is great for motivation, it's also fantastic to go out on your own.

feetheart · 27/09/2014 07:46

That's rotten McPie and I agree with Thursday that you would be better off without them, running should overall be a fun, positive experience even if it hurts at the time and you think you are going to die 1 mile in (or maybe that's just me :))
Not sure if it helps but for the past 5 years I have run on my own - Couch25k, 5k, 10k and two halfs. The WOLF run was the first time I have run with anyone else. I love the thinking time I get on my own, it truly is 'me time' and I miss it when I can't get out.
However I have just joined a club and did a speed work session with them on Thursday. I was definitely the slowest but someone ran it with me and everyone waited at the end so we could run back together and that includes those who can do parkrun in under 19mins (compared to my 30mins) so there are nice supportive runners out there. I hope you find a way to get your mojo back inspite of mean people.
Where is your half?
