New thread for park runners old and new. Who's running at home and away this weekend? Who's volunteering?

Nice run this morning - 28:17 which is still some way off best, but I operate on a "under 30 good, under 29 great!" mantra.

Planning to try Ormeau next week - future tourism includes Crane Park on 1 November, and Perth on 8 November.

thenightsky · 13/09/2014 19:52

fucking awful run today (sorry for language)

back of left knee felt 'iffy' after Thursday's run onmy own. Today I got 20 paces in and it seezed up totally Sad

I'll be off to physio asap this coming week, but i'm guessing its going to be 3 weeks rest minimum Sad

MelanieCheeks · 13/09/2014 19:59

Oh dear nightsky, that's not good. But try to keep a long term view - a few weeks rehab will stand you in great stead for years to come.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 13/09/2014 22:16

Some great running, but sorry to hear about your knee nightsky

I had a plod around this morning, still can't break 30 mins or get anywhere near my PB (mid 27's). But I beat everyone who stayed in bed this morning Grin

Sorry to hear that thenightsky!

We had record turn it yesterday, I was 63rd and previous best was 62 :)

HalleLouja · 15/09/2014 16:44

They are starting a new parkrun in Hertford / Welwyn way (Panshanger). The first one is 11th October but the pilot one is 5th October at 2pm.

I can't make either but thought I would post the info on.

cinnamongreyhound · 15/09/2014 16:54

Hmm interesting, my dad lives in Waltham cross.

HalleLouja · 15/09/2014 17:21

Cinnamon are you from there originally? Back in the day I used to go to the Odeon there and we used to go to Pizza Hut afterwards Grin.

There is also one in Waltham Abbey.

cinnamongreyhound · 15/09/2014 17:28

Yes but I moved away in 1988 when my mum left my dad when I was 7 so didn't really hang around there as a teen. My dad's still in the house they bought in the early 70's :)

HalleLouja · 15/09/2014 17:41

That was definitely pre-teen for me though I might be a few years older than you.....

thenightsky · 15/09/2014 18:04

well physio thinks my injury is due to a very tight hamstring which has got damaged at the knee end. Had long session of ultrasound and massage and been told not to run until I see him again next week Sad

feetheart · 15/09/2014 18:52

Oooo, we might be able to do an inaugural parkrun. Missed Chichester by a few weeks (think we ran week 3)

cinnamongreyhound · 16/09/2014 13:20

Oh no the nightsky, at least you know the problem and it can be fixed!

Those who have 50 t-shirts roughly how long did you wait for them? super impatient I know

pseudonymity · 16/09/2014 16:32

Hello all, newbie here. I'm not ready for a 5k park run yet but I'm working up to it. I don't think I'm a natural distance runner, I think I prefer sprints and intervals but I want some kind of challenge. I am in the fortunate position of having a park run very nearby but I've been too scared to go this far, hence the 'building up' to it.

Does anyone know if it's possible not to have one's real name on the website? I'm in the kind of job where people google me and I don't want it coming up.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 17/09/2014 07:03

hello pseudoSmile
I imagine you could have any name you liked-I would use my middle name+married name if I didn't want to be foundSmile

When I registered one of my DCs I accidentally put their last name first but it doesn't seem to matter.
cinnamon I am still waiting for my red shirt-have you ordered yours? Our RD said lots of people don't realise that they need to Grin

OP posts:
cinnamongreyhound · 17/09/2014 07:21

I ordered mine as soon as I got the email on Saturday Blush OhOneOhTwoOhThree!

Welcome pseudonymity, no one checks any ID so you could put whatever you like as a name I'm sure. Go along and give it a go even if you don't think you can run the whole lot you can run/walk it and then have something to aim for :)

Blatherskite · 17/09/2014 18:31

Is there not still a stop on t-shirt deliveries? They put them all on hold on couple of weeks ago while they tried to sort out the system and as far as I know, it's not started up again yet.

Women's come faster than men's usually. I waited 3 or 4 weeks for mine I think. I ordered mine as soon as I got home as I had a tip off from the ED that he was doing an order that afternoon so to get in quick :)

Blatherskite · 17/09/2014 18:33

A friend of mine ran while registered as Jenny Talls (say it out loud) for ages so you definitely don't have to have your real name. I've not seen any obvious pseudonyms though so I'd stick to something fairly normal looking. First name + middle name seems to be the vogue for teacher friends of mine at the moment.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 17/09/2014 19:19

cinnamon so did I Grin

OP posts:
standingonlego · 17/09/2014 19:50

And me :)

standingonlego · 17/09/2014 19:51

I have just seen on our parkrun page that they have just had some r shirts arrive (alas not mine Sad) so they are being despatched

cinnamongreyhound · 17/09/2014 19:54

They sent a newsletter the last week of aug I think Blatherskite that they were back dispatching them. They said they had 1000 men's to fulfil the 600 they need plus stock but some women's sizes are still low :(

jchocchip · 18/09/2014 08:31

Well done on your 50th cinnamon, cake looked lovely too :)
I've not been around for a bit, password problems.
I don't know if any of you know from mfp or elsewhere, but my lovely dh (who joined in c25k with me when I was doing that because of a mn thread nearly 3 years ago) died in July. He had done 21 parkruns and his last was a pb. He came and supported me more often than running. We got a mention on the parkrun show in August, both my brothers and my nephew ran parkrun with me the day after the funeral.
My local parkrun community has been really supportive.

I'm off work now, it was such a sudden death, I am finding it hard to come to terms with.

HalleLouja · 18/09/2014 08:35

jchocchip we haven't met before but that sounds tough. Hope all is as well as it can be.

DottyDot · 18/09/2014 08:38

eeek....am doing my very first parkrun on Saturday! Shock

I'm going to be horribly slow - am averaging about 43 minutes in the gym and on runs outside. Sigh. Please tell me I won't be the very last person to finish...? Blush

I'm hoping that running with others will speed me up a bit - I started the C25K programme in June, finished a few weeks ago but pretty much all in the gym so I've never run with other people..!
