New thread for park runners old and new. Who's running at home and away this weekend? Who's volunteering?

Hi Dotty you wouldn't be last at my parkrun. I'm really slow and we have a tailrunner who runs with the last person. Check the times from the last couple of weeks, there are usually a few slow people :) Good luck!

jchocchip · 18/09/2014 08:48

I'm tailrunner this week and hoping that I will be able to keep up ;)

HalleLouja · 18/09/2014 09:03

Dotty I find having people around makes me run faster. The fastest I have run 5k by myself is 30 minutes but at parkrun I have done in just under 27 minutes.

feetheart · 18/09/2014 16:57

jchocchip - hello and sending best wishes for what must be the toughest of tough times. It doesn't surprise me in the slightest that parkrun people are being so supportive.
Are you running at the moment? I know everyone uses running in their own way but for me it is my thinking time - a space in the hectic day that is just mine though I do now occasionally share it with other people.

HalleLouja - are you running this w/e? Hopefully we are.

Dotty - I also tend to run faster with other people around (slightly too competitive for my own good :)) Just go for it and enjoy it, as you keep going, and get faster you will have lots of PBs along the way which is very satisfying.

feetheart · 18/09/2014 16:59

jchocchip - just read properly (Blush) and see that you are still running, I hope it helps.

jchocchip · 18/09/2014 17:07

Thanks feetheart I am running but not enough. Have put some weight back on and slowed down again. I was going to go out this morning, but couldn't get going, I am intending to go out before it gets dark, I know that it will do me good.

HalleLouja · 18/09/2014 18:01

Feet I should be running this weekend. Are you bringing your DS?

jchocchip · 18/09/2014 18:27

Ok trainers on, off out for half an hour or so Smile

jchocchip · 18/09/2014 19:13

back again, I survived, nice run by river, glad I went.

cinnamongreyhound · 18/09/2014 19:20

Of course I remember you jchocchip! So so sorry to hear your news I'm not surprised you're not coping well it must be devastating! Glad you are still running and it's helping. Take care Thanks

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 18/09/2014 19:44

Have you see this!?! - Official parkrun kit!

jchocchip · 18/09/2014 20:26

Yes, devastated was the word I used when I told people. Running is good, but of course all of my local runs are places that we went together. I could almost visualise him down by the allotments tonight. I do need a kick to make sure I go out in the mornings, I would like to speed up before my 100th run, but at this rate it is unlikley that I will get a pb this year! I could do with doing C25k again, (maybe the speed training) but I have misplaced my MP3 player. Brain is like mush Sad

marshmallowSqueeze · 18/09/2014 20:31

Can I join in? Took ds to his first park run few weeks ago sadly didn't get to run (long story) but I am trying to build up courage try a different one this week

jchocchip · 18/09/2014 20:37

Ooer parkrun kit Smile

Hi marshmallow, how old is your ds? Hope you have better luck this week.

marshmallowSqueeze · 18/09/2014 21:31

He is 8 he is away this weekend so thought If I try just me get a better feel for it Smile

feetheart · 18/09/2014 22:35

marshmallow - my 8 yr old DS has run 2 out of 3 parkruns with me so far and, yes HalleLouja he will be there on Saturday. He loves it. He hasn't made it round without stopping a few times yet but beats me every time on the sprint finish :)

Not sure about Parkrun kit, bit too boring black though at least there isn't a bloody pink offering :)

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 18/09/2014 22:44

My red tee-shirt has been despatched Grin Grin Grin (I clicked on the link called "club progress" on my profile).

I am volunteering this week, hoping to drag DS2 with me if he'll get out of bed. Like jchocchip I am tail running/walking

Welcome marshmallow and Dotty

jchocchip lovely to have you with us, running and being on here has introduced me to a rich seam of positive people and encouragement x

marshmallowSqueeze · 19/09/2014 08:10

Ds is 8 been running a few months building up to around 5k when we are out so far not too bad not full running bit of mixed run walk but he is doing well hopefully I find one we like as it do wonders for his self confidence I think

HalleLouja · 19/09/2014 08:58

My friend and I are going to take our DS's aged 6 to do parkrun together one week. DS really wants to do it. So I thought having a friend may help.

WastingMyYoungYears · 19/09/2014 10:48

Hi everyone.

I'm just checking in. I'm sidling up to doing a ParkRun Grin. I've just finished C25K, but at the moment I only run just over 4K in 30mins. So I plan to work on distance, then on speed, then try a ParkRun.

jchocchip · 19/09/2014 11:42

You were here last time I was! I'm hoping that I can stay on here for a while, but realise that I still don't know my mn password (couldn't log in on tablet) and don't seem to get password reset emails again. :(

We have a lot of children at our parkrun, the very young ones struggle, Six year old should be ok if they really want to do it and are used to running around.

wasting I did my first parkrun after I finished c25k, I still haven't got speed, but it should be easy to do the distance in a crowd of people. Have a look at your local parkrun results to see how fast they are.

cinnamongreyhound · 19/09/2014 13:55
