New thread for park runners old and new. Who's running at home and away this weekend? Who's volunteering?

Welcome EdithDickie. parkrun is awesome, you're going to love it.

I did Porthcawl parkrun while away for the weekend over the holidays. I drove to a random place directed only by a postcode and a quick description on a website, got out of the car and asked the next lycra clad stranger I saw if they were heading to parkrun.....I ended up chatting to a whole group of lycra clad strangers for 20 minutes while we waited for the run to start, I got tips on places to see while we were away, joined in with marvelling at the man on crutches who'd finished a race with 2 broken ankles and basically felt like part of the group :) The same happened when I went to Thursday's parkrun on holiday last year. I've never been to one where people haven't been friendly and welcoming in fact.

Make sure you get there early enough to park up and find the start with about 20 minutes to spare so you catch the pre-run briefing, smile and enjoy it. You'll have a great time. Then come back and tell us how it went.

I'm looking forward to seeing OhOne again tomorrow and meeting Lego Grin

Hello AuntyDiluvian (love your nickname!) Good luck for tomorrow :)

AuntyDiluvian · 05/09/2014 10:29

Thanks Blatherskite! Same to all, happy running.

Blatherskite · 05/09/2014 10:58

I'm going to need luck tomorrow I think. My neck and shoulders are really sore and stiff from spending 90 minutes trampolining yesterday, I'm a little worried that it's going to make running tough!

cinnamongreyhound · 05/09/2014 14:56

Hi AuntyDiluvian! Enjoy your run tomorrow :)

Hope your aches have eased it for tomorrow Blatherskite :)

18mo DS and I are volunteering in the morning. I asked to marshal, hopefully we'll be near the start somewhere Smile

standingonlego · 05/09/2014 22:49

I am in bits too blathers after my gym session on Thursday. Hobbling around...need to brave the roller before bed. Definately a slow and steady parkrun jog tomorrow.

I am dropping my boys off at 8.30 so hope to be there 8.45 :)

karatekimmi · 06/09/2014 07:38

I'm tail running- first time after my injury but my leg is feeling loads better now fingers crossed as I am supposed to do a HM next week then having a big breakfast and then helping at out local funrun!!

Didyouhearmeontheradio · 06/09/2014 07:39

Hello, I'm off to do my 3rd with all the family today at Cleethoroes. We all did the Lincoln one last week, on dd3's 8th birthday - can't believe we persuaded them to do that! . Scunthorpe is our home though, even though I've only done it once, me or dh there next week. There are more slow runners at Scunny, so I'm not as near the end there.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 06/09/2014 07:44

Have good runs everyone, see you shortly Blathers

Enjoy your 50th Lego - bit of a running w/e :o

I should be able to do parkrun much more often after this week as DS has been moved up at gymnastics and the class is on Tuesdays not Saturdays - result :) I may even make my local one for the first time!

Blatherskite · 06/09/2014 07:53

I went to the inaugural run at Cleethorpes :)

HalleLouja · 06/09/2014 10:42

Feet am now sat at football after doing the SA parkrun. Hopefully see you soon. Well done to your DS.

Waves at everyone. All I know is my time was less than 30 minutes. Still waiting for garmin ti arrive and couldn't take my phone. I did race DS at the end as he finished at the park.

ThursdayLast · 06/09/2014 11:19

Well that was fun. DS proved quite popular Smile
And because I wasn't in a rush to get home I went and had a coffee after, which was fun too. I'm really starting to feel like I fit in.

AuntyDiluvian · 06/09/2014 11:52

Wheeeee I did it without stopping again! Slower than last week (34:37) but I've got the smug glow, plus my friend and I had managed to entice two new first-timers out, and my bloke and boy marshalled together. What a nice way to start Saturday. Well done for being sub-30 HalleLouja and for volunteering Thursday!

holmessweetholmes · 06/09/2014 12:08

Hurrah! Ds (6) and dd (9) made it round their first Parkrun. I'm very proud Smile. A bit of walking, but mostly jogging. They were so thrilled when everyone cheered them on at the finish and are dying to do it again next Saturday!

AuntyDiluvian · 06/09/2014 12:16

That's lovely Holmes. I've been wondering how long it is til my son can join in parkrun. He's only 16mo at the moment so think he'll be volunteering for a while yet.

standingonlego · 06/09/2014 12:19

Hooray! 50th parkrun done Smile

It was lovely to have a visit from
OhOne and blathers - thank you for you support ladies !

Any advice on t shirt sizing before I hit submit? Dithering between 10&12

standingonlego · 06/09/2014 12:20

And huge congratulations to all first time runners (including the DCs), non-stoppers (aunty) and regulars!

I am really feeling the parkrun love today Grin

ThursdayLast · 06/09/2014 12:21

WELL DONE LEGO!

Blatherskite · 06/09/2014 12:35

It was good to meet you Lego :) Thank you for the cake.

I think you'd be fine with a 10. That's what size mine is. I can always stick it in the wash tonight and you can try it tomorrow? I think they've changed the style but not by enough to make the sizes wildly different.

holmessweetholmes · 06/09/2014 12:59

Well done Lego!

thenightsky · 06/09/2014 13:23

Didyouhearmeontheradio At last a fellow sunny Scunny runner!

We will have to find each other. I sometimes go for coffee with DS and some friends afterwards in The Pods. Smile
