New thread for park runners old and new. Who's running at home and away this weekend? Who's volunteering?

Wow, running a parkrun blindfolded. Bet that was a helluva experience Melanie

MelanieCheeks · 14/02/2015 16:51

Not the whole parkrun! We did blindfold training ( and with some actual blind runners) AFTER the Parkrun, and did a few short routes, rather than the whole course.

Mumonabroom · 14/02/2015 22:42

Hope you don't mind me gate crashing your thread. I'm new to running and have discovered park runs as of this week (so far only on line...) but there is one a few miles from me. I'm running/walking 5k in around 38-40 minutes at the moment, following the couch to 5k since the end of December. What sort of time would it be good to try my first park run please? I don't want to be discouraged if I'm hours after everyone else, but I'd like to try a 5k before I do a 5k race at the end of January. Many thanks, love reading all the posts (lurking).

feetheart · 15/02/2015 07:04

Mumonabroom - you're not gate-crashing at all, you are very welcome :)
I would say go for it now, you won't be the slowest at 38-40mins and you will be able to get lots of PBs (personal bests) as your time comes down - always great motivation.

I was doing timing at Gladstone Park today (scary responsibility!) and the last one, of 112, came in at 44.20. Have a look at the results page of the local parkrun and you will see what sort of times people are doing - ignore the top of the page, that will just scare you, look at the bottom.

cinnamongreyhound · 15/02/2015 11:20

Our slowest runner tends to be around 40-42mins at my home parkrun mumonabroom. You can check the results of your local parkrun and see the slowest if you're worried but there is often a tail runner who will always be last but you will always be supported and encouraged no matter you time so please go along!

Hi mumonabroom - I replied to your post last night, but it ended up on the running thread instead of this one by mistake Smile

I said the same as feet and cinnamon Smile

Anyone who fancies some tourism, and isn't too far away, our birthday run is 14th March Grin

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 15/02/2015 15:07

I would like to try to come cinnamon, but I land back from an overseas trip late on the Friday night, so might need to see how I feel. It would be lovely to see you Smile. Will there be cake?

Welcome along mumonabroom! When is your 5k race?

cinnamongreyhound · 15/02/2015 18:53

Do you need to ask OhOneOhTwoOhThree? Wink

standingonlego · 15/02/2015 20:40

Thank you for the warm welcome. I will give it a go on your advice in 3 weeks (other half lands back from New York the next two Saturdays, so I'm stuck for child care). How exciting! It's encouraging that no one minds if you're slow, I guess I was worried they'd have to keep volunteers on for an extra shift! Thanks for the encouragement.

Mumonabroom · 16/02/2015 09:52

Ps my 5k is 25th April. Decided to go for a Glow in the Park night time one, to keep it fun.

feetheart · 16/02/2015 10:59

Oooo, Mumonabroom, I've looked at that one as it's my sister's birthday that day and she lives quite close. She is yet to reply :)

ThursdayLast · 16/02/2015 18:21

Yay! Running bud and I both have secured toddler-sitters so that we can go to Penrose parkruns inaugural run!

So happy!

Mumonabroom · 16/02/2015 18:29

feetheart let me know! That would be fun!

thursdaylast fab!

cinnamongreyhound · 16/02/2015 22:23

Excellent ThursdayLast!

feetheart · 20/02/2015 09:08

Mumonabroom - sister is being a wimp and would prefer a nice meal and a run to the pub Shock so probably not going to make it this time. Never say never though.

Actually running tomorrow at SA although it will be the last time for a while as I'm down to volunteer for all of March. Hopefully next time I run it will be at my local parkrun :o

cinnamongreyhound · 20/02/2015 09:18

I'm at home tomorrow, have my rd slot next week, hopefully home the following and then it's our birthday!! I will be almost 37 weeks by then but would like to get round if I can!

What's everyone else doing?

A month of volunteering feetheart, that's dedication!

drzeus · 20/02/2015 09:19
