Welcome lily and mylife - this is a great place to spur you on!

Congratulations edwinias on graduating! I love your song idea, may be borrowing that!

Spidey, I agree with daft - you've conquered week one, onwards and upwards!

I did 5k again this morning. It was much harder than last time, even though I had a 2 minute sit down in the middle when I had to stop for a wee! I think I'm feeling a bit lost without the plan and with the nights drawing in so quickly. I was intending on staying at the 5k mark for a while, but I might try to push for an extra .5 km once a week…

Has anyone tried the c25k+ podcasts? Which one(s) would you recommend?

stilllearnin · 12/10/2014 23:22

any minute now I will go to bed (i have told dp I am writing a novel that will make us rich but he knows I am on mn!)

I use all of the 5k+ podcasts. Speed is short and is intervals - its good when you've not got much time and it is tiring so I think it might be improving my fitness. stepping stone gives you a pace that increases and you should be close to 5k in 30 mins if you follow it. I like stamina best because it gives me enough time to run up part of the hill on my way home. It's 35 mins at an increasing pace (in other words, it is stepping stone with 5 mins added). I run stamina and stepping stone together for a longer run.

EdwiniasRevenge · 13/10/2014 00:11

Well done lilyben we knew you coukd do it! And I bet you feel more motivated now too?

stillearnin how are the C25K+ podcasts? I was looking on the NHS forums and they look a little technical...matching pace to the beat...I'm nit sure if I can think about when to put one foot in front of the other...I can barely do it some days! And you say that they are aimed at 30min pace for 5km. I'm nowhere near that. ..currently looking at sbout 45+mins....

as an aside I covered 5.1km in this mornings session....I guess I need to find a new goal for the week...

addictedtosugar · 13/10/2014 08:47

C25K+ aren't as hard as you think!
I'd suggest starting with stepping stones, Laura will talk you through it all, and help you like she does on the C25K ones.
If you can't keep up, you can slow down, and just ignore the beat for a bit, and then pick it up again when you can.
There are 2 versions of each: get the one with intro for a bit more info from Laura about what you need to be doing.
Don't do stamina til you've conquered stepping stones!

I've been trying to do w9/ stamina / w5r3 (lunch from work) a couple of times a week, and then slightly longer at a weekend. I've got to 8km, and would love to build to a 10km, but have done very little for the past month.

MySpideySenseTickles · 13/10/2014 08:47

Woke up with a cold and it's miserable and raining, still going and still going to try w2r1 if it tries to kill me at least it's fewer runs...

DaftMaul · 13/10/2014 09:17

Haag, well done Spidey. Hope it girls ok.

Have just run W6R1. I thought it might feel a bit easier than the 20min one last time but didn't really! Luckily the rain mostly held off until half way through so it was quite a nice relief to cool me down!

trulybadlydeeply · 13/10/2014 09:43

Morning all!

Have done W7R1 this morning, my second run now in the pouring rain. I definitely need some wet weather gear and some trainers that don't leak! my current trainers are all mesh/fabric on top, I think I'm going to end up with foot rot.

Have only glanced over the weekend's posts, so forgive me for not mentioning everybody (and only my third post, so I'm still getting to know you all!), but Spidey, hope it goes well today, despite the rain and your cold.

MySpideySenseTickles · 13/10/2014 09:56

I really wish I could afford a treadmill or gym membership, I can only imagine how muddy and slippery it's going to be today Sad

crappyday · 13/10/2014 10:13

Hello
Can I join? Just done W1R1.
Knackered now!

MySpideySenseTickles · 13/10/2014 10:27

Hi crappy! Well done! You've done the hardest step now so you can start to enjoy it, I never would've thought it at the start of week 1 but it does get easier, I'm just about to start week 2 today I had a bit of a stall at the start where I didn't think I could even do week 1 but I pushed through and realised I could do it but I was telling myself I couldnt!

mylifeagain · 13/10/2014 11:36

Hi crappy well done! I've just done W5R1 found it a bit tough especially at the hallway point but I pressed on and finished it pleased with myself now.

I've found that though with all the others, it's that halfway point when I just want to give up. Anyone else feel the same?

MySpideySenseTickles · 13/10/2014 13:12

Had to go round the hilly lake because the woods were too slippery, that was hard, just as the last run was about to start I was getting close to the car and almost gave up and went home but forced myself on, not that I would call the shambolic slow shuffle-jog running but still finished. That was really hard!

MySpideySenseTickles · 13/10/2014 14:13

Feel a little more alive after a shower and a little chuffed that I'm in a size 18 top, worn out though!

DaftMaul · 13/10/2014 16:46

Well done Spidey!

stilllearnin · 13/10/2014 17:51

Spidey - fantastic. Keep going it can only get easier the more you do!

I agree on the 5k+ podcasts by the way. Laura counts the beat every so often and I suppose if you're getting worn out you can take shorter strides too. Gove it a go. I really like them. My dd wants a treadmill. She used one at a friends house and lived it. She's too self conscious to run out in the open!

stilllearnin · 13/10/2014 17:52

Interesting auto correct of 'give'!

spongebob5 · 13/10/2014 21:45

Hello, I thought I'd post so hopefully I'll keep motivated to get to 5K :) I'm on week 4, run 3. I'd like to do a parkrun when i finish the app but I run on a treadmill (no incline) so I'm wondering if I'll struggle outside.

CruCru · 13/10/2014 22:55

Hi all! Today I ran W9 again and it was fine (bit of a relief because I couldn't do it earlier in the week). I LOVE my waterproof running jacket. Only thing was that a load of teenagers hanging by the public toilets jeered. Isle of Wight teenagers must be some of the most bored in the world.

I put out an appeal on the facebook freecycle page and someone's offered me their treadmill! Folding manual can't wait to pick it up!

ScienceRocks · 14/10/2014 07:53

Spongebob, don't worry about running on a treadmill versus running outside. Just keep doing the runs and working on your stamina. Once you start the longer runs (which won't be long now!), then try mixing it up with outside runs as well as on the treadmill. You might be surprised at what you can do!

Spidey, great news on the treadmill!

ScienceRocks · 14/10/2014 07:53

And hello to everyone else Smile

WastingMyYoungYears · 14/10/2014 08:21

Cru, is it you who's the Impossibly Light running jacket? I might have mixed to my C names Grin! Mine is on the way Smile...

WastingMyYoungYears · 14/10/2014 08:22

*up

spongebob5 · 14/10/2014 08:50

Thanks science :) going to get changed in a minute & go running. My poor dog has had the runs this morning so have been up since 7 cleaning & bathing him. I registered for parkrun last night too! I like how autocorrect changed parkrun to parkour then lol
